Storytime STEM

Storytime STEM workshops are suitable for the early years, primary school and OOSH. All stories are original works written by our very own Jennie Young. Each Storytime STEM workshop begins with an original animated story displayed on our giant storybook. Workshops are approximately 1.5 hours in length and consist of a number of unique hands-on experiences.

Sustainable STEM

Our Sustainable STEM workshops encourage children to consider alternative uses for discarded items breathing new life into old items. These workshops encourage children to problem changing mindsets from a single use disposable society. Workshops are approximately 1.5 hours in length and consist of a number of unique handson experiences.

10 Week STEM Program

The 10 Week STEM Program allows your children to immerse themselves into the world of STEM. You pick 10 of our 24 workshops and we do the rest! Receive documentation including follow on ideas and activities to continue the experience after we have left!

You get one workshop a week for up to 30 children, with follow-on activities and equipment*. You also receive activity documentation.

Inside The Beanstalk

Children will explore their environment and go even further with a very close look at the world around them. Using microscopes, they will view samples including; feathers, Children will seek their own objects to view and photograph with some amazing technology which attaches to various smart devices. As part of our Storytime STEM workshop, They will also able to interact with some spiny leaf insects and a giant burrowing cockroach. If they are brave enough, they'll even be able to hold them!

The Insectarium

The Insectarium delves further into the world of creepy crawlies. Children will have the opportunity to look at and hold a variety of insects such as giant snails, spiny leaf insects, giant cockroaches, giant millipedes and view others such as spiders, scorpions, centipedes and more!

In this interactive workshop not only will the children come face to face with some unusual creatures they'll learn about their habitat, diet and lifestyles. They'll also get to come together as a team and use their engineering skills to create giant insectariums that they'll play a game in and a smaller insectarium that stays at the service and houses 2 spiny leaf insects!

*Stick insects are low maintenance pets that you do not need to license to keep and exhibit.

** We provide you with the equipment needed to care for the insect, all you need to do is give them gum leaves

Jurassic Dig

This dinosaur STEM workshop introduces children to

Let us step back in time and marvel at the awesomeness that is DINOSAURS! Your group will have to work together to construct a giant dinosaur skeleton. The skeleton measures over 2 metres long! This activity will put their problem-solving skills to the test. As there are many components to constructing a skeleton, the children will need to work together to complete this task. Oh did we mention that in this dinosaur STEM activity they have to dig for the skeleton parts before construction can begin?

The group will also get to look at and hold some fossils and replica dinosaur skulls. Each child will also receive a miniature 3D dinosaur puzzle to construct and/or take home and keep for their very own.

Children love this dinosaur craft activity for early years and beyond. You will have a team of aspiring archeologists by the end of this workshop!

Jurassic Walk

This STEAM activity introduces children to science, maths and some good old fashioned sleuthing. Children will use our migrating? Were they hunting? Were they running to escape. Then, in teams they will have to puzzle together some life size dinosaur footprint puzzle pieces. They will gain a greater understanding of just how big these creatures truly were.

Jurassic Deep

In this underwater adventure, children will learn about some aquatic dinosaurs that existed during the Cretaceous, Triassic and Jurassic periods. They will be invited to look at some fossils and other artefacts. The centre will get to keep an aquarium kit, with a living dinosaur. Each child will take home a plesiosaur science experiment. This workshop focuses on the STEM concept of science.

Where the Crystals Grow

Glenna, The Dawn Fairy has lost her magic crystal and can’t get home. In this Storytime STEM workshop, the children will join Glenna on her adventure on this side of the beanstalk. Each child will design and grow their own crystal pendants to keep. A variety of crystals, minerals and semi-precious stones will be available for the children to explore and get even closer using the beanstalks microscope technology.

Where the Mirrors Grow

Enter the world of Where the Mirrors Grow and the mirror forest. Children will not only manipulate mirrors, exercising exploring the STEM concepts of science and maths. they can be manipulated. Children will change the through a mirror, stand between mirrors to have their Every child will make their own hand held mirror that they can decorate and keep!

Where the Mirrors Grow 2

Children will hear part two of Where the Mirrors Grow and venture further into the mirror forest. This story is the follow on of part one but can also be a stand alone workshop. though a two way mirror and get to play and hypothesise with a skills and cognitive functions, they will learn about light maths. activity will require concentration, and some science and

Growley and The Twitching Tail

Meet Growley the Chimera Cat and his human family.

Children will be presented with and listen to the story of Growley and the Twitching Tail. They will demonstrate understanding and comprehension of the story as well as The children will move around a series of human family.

Children will be presented with and listen to the story of Growley and the Twitching Tail. They will demonstrate understanding and comprehension of the story as well as The children will move around a series of puppet theatres

They will also choose to keep and accessorise a Growley or picture taken with our large Growley “Muppet Puppet”.

Growley and the Stolen

Jewellery

Growley is back and trying his paw again at mysterysolving. Growley and Gwen, with the help of the children use a combination of maths and technology to solve this mystery.

In this workshop, the children will use metal detectors to unearth some treasures and learn about coordinates and

Growley and The Crazy Clocks

Why are Grandma and the children always late? The mischievous Growley is back again in Growley and the Crazy Clocks.

In this workshop, children will build a clock and a sundial to keep at the centre. They will look at gears and mechanisms as well as an array of various clocks. Each child will take home a sundial activity kit to continue this experience with their families.

Growley and the Christmas Caper

Growley is missing, and there are reports of a monster in the neighbourhood. Will Growley make it home for Christmas? Will the monster be caught?

In this festive workshop, children will construct and decorate a 3D miniature house of their own. The houses can be placed in a centrewide village, to create a holiday display. Children

T h e S p a c es hip Tree: A tt ack of T h e Pin ky Pon k y

This Storytime STEM workshop introduces the original series The Spaceship Tree to viewers on the giant Storytime STEM Storybook.

This workshop allows children to take basic shapes and patterns to make a large geodisic dome that they can walk in. Once inside the children will have the opportunity to "steer" the spaceship treehouse "across the universe", while avoiding meteor showers, space debris and the elusive Pinky Ponky.

Children will suspend disbelief as they use simple machines and some imagination to be just like the Spaceship Tree crew.

T h e S p a c es hip Tree: T h e D r on e Di le mm a

The crew of The Spaceship Tree have discovered they are not alone! There is another treehouse in the neighbourhood. The two groups use a drone to send messages to each other.

control a drone through a drone obstacle course but not before they pass their drone license test! Each child will get a personalised drone license..

Hydroponics

Everyone has done gardening. Everyone knows how to dig a hole and plant a plant but not everyone knows how to grow a plant without soil... but we do!

In this workshop, children will learn how plants can grow without traditional gardening methods. They will also be Our hydroponics kits are compact but mighty! Children will plant one plant each* in the hydroponic unit. They will learn about how to feed the plants without fertiliser, they will learn how to measure the growth of the plants and they will

After a 4 week period, your group will be able to harvest their crop and make a salad or just much away on some lettuce leaves, turning this experiment into a delightful community feast!

What's even better is that you get to keep the hydroponics system and can continue growing plants or vegetables whenever you like to extend upon the experience.

The Hidden Garden

In this Sustainable STEM workshop we explore the world of terrariums. Each child will design and make their very own terrarium and get to keep it. Beyond the Beanstalk will showcase their large terrarium and explain how it has its own ecosystem that is self-contained. We will also look at other weather systems and recreate some in a jar.

Aquaponics

This Sustainable STEM activity can be both a stand alone workshop OR is a fantastic follow on from our Water Garden (Hydroponics) workshop.

In this activity plants are grown in water... but there's a that will help the plants grow (and the centre gets to keep them with the aqauponics unit).

Children will learn how to construct a small aquaponics unit in which they can grow some vegetables like lettuce. Children will learn to look at common items and adapt them for new purposes.

Second Chance Plants

In this Sustainable STEM activity, children will make and take home some seed bombs. We will discuss how to use and repurpose everyday household items that are no longer used for their original purpose.

Children will work together to design an upcycled garden and can keep the plan to display. The children will see some examples of this in the workshop. Centre will be encouraged to create their own upcycled garden with family involvement.
