WO R L D T I M E C H RO N O G R A P H The combination of world time and chronograph functions is something Patek Philippe has so far only offered in a single piece from the 1940s. The basis for the mechanical calibre CH 28-520 HU movement are the self-winding CH 28-520 PS chronograph calibre with column-wheel control and a vertical clutch as well as the World Time mechanism. In the new reference 5930, the fusion of chronograph and a World Time watch is presented with a classic round case in 18-carat white gold. It features the same winglet-style strap lugs that were a key design element of the 1940s and 1950s World Time watches. WO R L D T I M E The World Time watch is one of Patek Philippe’s most popular complications. As some time zone designations have changed, the new reference 5230 is replacing all previous time zone models. The changes were a welcome opportunity to subtly rework the case, dial and hand designs as well. The modifications give this watch a feel that is both new and familiar at the same time. A N N UA L C A L E N DA R In 2016, Patek Philippe’s patented Annual Calendar, which only needs to be corrected once a year, is celebrating its 20th anniversary. The latest model looks both new and familiar at the same time. Familiar because of the style elements that aficionados have been appreciating for years, such as the inimitable Calatrava case, and new because these elements have never before been combined in this way. The sapphire-crystal showcases a dial that perfectly reflects the timelessness of this watch. It features familiar elements that have been subtly refined and recombined. The spectacular graphic arrangement of the dial provides an almost complete view of the components of the movement. Breguet is a famous name not only in horology but also in aviation. Louis Charles Breguet, a great-greatgrandson of Abraham Louis Breguet, developed the gyroplane, a forerunner of the helicopter, and in 1916 the Breguet XIV, a military aeroplane which marked the culmination of all his research. By 1928, some 8000 copies had been manufactured and it had been delivered to 15 countries. The Breguet manufacture has rounded off its historic collection with this new model, whose vintage look recalls the history and origins of the Type XX series, albeit coupled with characteristic watchmaking technology that is firmly anchored in the 21st century. PETITE HEURE MINUTE T H O U SA N D Y E A R L I G H T S To create this enchanting version of the Petite Heure Minute, the craftsmen at Jaquet Droz embarked on an intensive exploration of an ancient Asian technique. The flowery landscape in luminous colours was inspired by the Najeon Chilgi method, involving lacquerware with mother-of-pearl inlays, which experienced a golden age under the Goryeo dynasty (10th to 14th century). The tenderness and silvery shimmer of the leaves, so rich in colour and detail, are made possible by the mother-of-pearl intaglio. To achieve this, the engravers built up minute volumes of paint on the polished mother-of-pearl by hand, giving the floral tableaux an incomparable lustre and mirror effect when light falls on them.
