Chairman's Welcome

Ihavepersonallybeenapartofthiscommunityfor fourandahalfyears Inthelast5yearsthecommunityhaslost someimportantfigures,butwehavealsogaineda lotofnew facesandfamilies.

I was incredibly privileged to take the role of Chairman of the charities representing BlackmoreEndVillageHallandthePlayingFieldlastyear.AcutelyawarethatIamfollowinga longlineofgreatChairman,whomadeanindelibleimpactonthiscommunity,IunderstandI havehighstandardstomatch.

Butthunderalwaysfollowslightning,andIwanttoreignitethesparkinthiscommunity Aswe shakeoffthecloudsofcovid,andtrytoresumenormallife,Iwantthiscommunitytobebigger andbetterthanever.

Ourfirststepinthisprocesshasbeenrebrandingthevillagehall,asacommitteewethinkit’s important to acknowledge and represent all the hamlets within this community. This key communityassetshouldserveallthepeopleitwaspledgedtowhenestablished.

We are focusing our efforts on providing regular community events and opportunities includingourfreecommunitycaféevery1stand3rdThursday Pridingourselvesonmatching thevaluessetoutbyActionforCommunitiesinRuralEngland(ACRE),wewanttobeawarm, welcomingandinclusivespace.

Anotherinitiativeisthisnewcommunitymagazine.Wewantyoutohelpusshapeit.Ifyou havecontent,picturesorsuggestionspleasesendthemin.Togetherwecancreatesomething interesting,relevant,andsustainable.

Spotlight: BlackmoreEndFree CommunityCafe

TheBlackmoreEndFreeCommunityCaféhasnow beenrunningsincethe22ndofJanuary.Ona Thursdayvolunteerspulltogethertoofferfreshcoffee, tea,hotchocolateandbiscuitsforthecommunity. Thishasprovidedagreatspaceforpeopletomeet, workandjustrelax.

Duringtherecenthalftermthecommitteeextended theoffertoincludecraftforthechildrenandsoup andarollforlunch.Wewouldliketosayabigthank youtoHarrietandJaneformakinghomemadesoups fortheoccasion.

Thisopportunityhasbeenreallyappreciatedbysomeofthelocalresidents, oneresidentcommented‘Icomeheretodomywork, Wi-Fiandfreecoffee,itsbetterthangoingto costa.’Anotherresidentexpressed‘It’salifelinefor me,weneedthisinthecommunity.Ialwayshave alovelychatandmeetsomeonenew.’

Sadlythoughoneofthevolunteerstoldus–‘becauseoflownumberswearefindingithardto sustainfunding,theywanttoknowhowmany peoplevisiteachweek.Ifwecan'tshowaneedwe willhavetostartcharging’.It’sdisappointingto hearthestressthatthevolunteersarefacing.They wanttoprovideagreatserviceforthecommunity regularlybutitwillalwaysbeacaseof‘useitorloseit’.

Oneperkofthiscommunitycaféisitsdogfriendly. Withlotsofwonderfulwalkslocally,youcantake fluffyforhisdailywalkandpopinforacuppaafter.

Charlieisasuperfriendlyboywholovesmeetingbothpeopleanddogs.Hehaslotsof energyandthereforeislookingforanactivefamilywhocantakehimonlotsofadventures! Hisfavouriteactivityistorunaroundoff leadinasecureareasowouldbenefit frombeinginahomethathasasafeand securegardenforhimtorunaroundin throughouttheday.

Charliegetssocialiseddailywithseveral differentfriendlydogsatthecentreand helovesthisinteraction,thereforehe couldpotentiallylivewithanotherdog. Hecanbeboisterouswhenplayingso needstolivewithadogwhoiswell socialised.

Charlierespondswelltotrainingandalreadyknowssit.Hewillrequiretrainingwithinthe homeaswellasregularsocialisationandplentyofpositiveexperiencesashegrowsup. Pleaseconsidertheamountoftimeyoucangivetoapuppyandbepreparedforallstages ofpuppyhoodrightthroughtoadolescenceandintoadulthood.

WeareunsureastowhetherornotRavenhaslivedinahomebeforesobasictoilettraining willberequiredinthehome.

A new home may be overwhelming at first so an understanding family who will give her plentyofpatience,timeandlovewouldbeperfect.

Ravenalsolovessocialisingwithherfellowlurchersfriendswhensheisoutonwalks. AnybodywouldbeluckytohaveRavenjointheirfamily.

The Big Help Out

The Big Help Out is a national day of volunteering happening on 8th May, the Bank Holiday Monday of the Coronation weekend. One of the key aims is to make volunteering easy and accessible. Around 1 in 5 people have never been asked to volunteer, and many don’t know where to begin.

The Village Hall and surrounds is almost 100 years old and always in need of TLC, so if you have an hour or so on that day why not come along anytime between 10-4

We need work done on the Village Hall, the Pavilion, the playground equipment as well as the Playing Field itself and making a start on the memorial garden.

Whatever your talents you will be able to help us out.

You can of course just come along on the day, but it will probably help planning if you make yourself known in advance via Facebook, our email address bevhpf@gmail.com or by talking to one of the committee members.

ALL ASSISTANCE WILL BE VERY GRATEFULLY RECEIVED.

TheVillageHallandPlayingFieldareseparatecharitieswhodecidedto worktogetherasonebodyfrom2021.Wearediversegroupwhobring differentskillsandbackgroundstothecommittee.Weofferourtime freeofchargeasvolunteers.

Weworkhardtoputonevents,supportresidentsandmaintaintheHall andPlayingField.There'saroleforeveryone,fromadmintocreativeto tech.Thisyearwe'vebeenbusybringingourselvesuptodateincluding cardmachines,smarttechnologyinthehallandnowthecommunity magazine.Jobsourvolunteersdocanvary,afewinthelastyearhave includedinstallingdishwashers,painting,creatingposters,makingtea andcoffeeandholdingaglowstickstall.

Whatdoweneed?

Weneedyou!Wehavebigambitionsforthenextfewyearsandneed morevolunteerstomakeithappen.Giveaslittleorasmuchasyoucan. Everyoneiswelcome.
