CLIENT: Shell Recharge LOCATION: London, United Kingdom PROJECT: Installation of CubiQ luminaire and InMo LED screen EN FUEL LED’S CONNECT THE FUTURE

In January 2022, Shell made headlines when the company opened its first EV hub on Fulham Road, London. The site which features 9 high powered, 175kW charge points also happens to be the largest in the world and is powered entirely by 100% certified renewable energy. The station also features a Little Waitrose & Partners convenience store and a Costa Coffee and well as comfortable seating and free wi-fi.

SUSTAINABILITY

The EV hub was designed for sustainability. The canopy is made from sheets of timber glued together which uses much less energy to produce and transport than steel. Solar panels are built into the canopy roof to provide around a quarter of the site’s electricity needs and all electricity supplied to the EV charge points and the station are from 100% certified renewable energy sources.

Bever’s under canopy lighting solutions are known for their long service life and minimum energy consumption making them an excellent choice for a sustainable site. The CubiQ luminaires used on the Shell Fulham Road site are a new development from Bever designed to meet the fuel station requirements of today and tomorrow. CubiQ is a small, flexible lighting solution making it the perfect fit for this innovative EV hub.

“The CubiQ fixtures are equipped with EOS Technology, which allows site managers to remotely monitor the assets on site and ensure everything is running as it should be".

“Our new CubiQ lighting system is much smaller than our LS Downlights. We ran a lot of light simulations to ensure the end product perfectly compliments the site architecture,” explained Rutger van Dierendonck, Technical Director at Bever Innovations.

“The CubiQ fixtures are also equipped with EOS Technology as standard which allows site managers to remotely monitor the assets on the site and ensure everything is running as it should be. Asset management is something that has become increasingly important for our customers,” he added.

All EOS connected devices can be remotely accessed via EOS Connected, an intuitive web-based management system that gives users information about Bever Innovations products in real-time. Users can get an overview of all sites in their network, monitor the devices remotely and gain insights into device operating conditions.

LED’S CONNECT THE FUTURE

COMMUNICATION

The site also features Bever Innovation’s InMo LED screen, specifically developed for use in a price totem. The screen allows Shell to clearly communicate with their customers - displaying the number of available EV chargers as well as offers to drive traffic in store.

“The InMo video wall allows Shell to display a range of dynamic content to their customers. The system automatically updates to show the number of chargers available, something that was very important for them. The solution is ex tremely flexible and in the future could be used to to show wait times or prices, anything is possible,” Rutger explained. To learn more about Bever’s LED

CLIENT: Evo Energy LOCATION: York, United Kingdom PROJECT: Installation LED Price Displays on EV charging hubs EN FUEL LED’S CONNECT THE FUTURE

CASE STUDY

Evo Energy, the UK’s leading renewable energy company, has partnered with the City of York Council to open two HyperHubs which aim to showcase best practice for the design of EV charging facilities in cities. The Monks Cross HyperHub, located next to one of York’s Park and Ride sites, is one of the largest EV charging hubs in Northern England. It features four 175kW ultra-rapid chargers, which can be upgraded to 350kW, four 50kW rapid chargers, with an adjacent area having thirty 7kW chargers for Park and Ride users.

HYPERHUB

The HyperHub also has a solar canopy which allows the site to generate its own renewable energy which can be stored in the Tesla Powerpack batteries at the charging hub, helping to reinforce the grid. A second site opened in summer 2022 next to Poppleton Bar Park and Ride site in the summer with a third site in the pipeline near the city centre.

EV CHARGING STRATEGY

The opening of the EV charging hubs came following the development of an Electric Vehicle Charging Strategy by the City of York Council. The strategy, looked at a wide range of issues in order to ensure that the HyperHubs met the needs of residents, fleets, commuters and through traffic and was accessible for all.

“Bever Innovation’s experience with petrol stations and LED price signs was invaluable."

Jonathan Roper, Principal Renewable Energy Consultant at Evo Energy.

One key finding from the strategy was that the development of such a facility wasn’t currently viable for private sector businesses, so the City of York Council opted to develop their own charging network to guarantee the best results for residents now and in the future. The creation of the HyperHubs was a first for both the City Council and their partners Evo Energy and so partnering with a business with a background in fuel retail was hugely beneficial.

EXPERIENCE

“Bever Innovation’s experience with petrol stations and LED price signs was invaluable. The HyperHubs are a very new concept, so having someone experienced in this public facing element of the business who could install robust, reliable equipment that works was really important to us,” explained Jonathan Roper, Principal Renewable Energy Consultant at Evo Energy.

Bever Innovations' unique LED design and production techniques are the result of many years of field experience with the world's largest oil companies, including Shell, BP, Q8, Exxon Mobile, and Total.

LED’S CONNECT THE FUTURE

REMOTE MANAGEMENT

A key requirement for the project was to be able to make price changes across all sites remotely. York City Council have standardised pricing across their network so any price changes need to be rolled out across all sites. This task is made simple with Bever’s EOS Technology. All of Bever’s LED lighting products are supplied with EOS Technology as standard and can be connected to one secure, wireless network. For the customer this means all devices to be managed remotely from one user-friendly dashboard. “Our EOS connected sites allow customers to change pricing remotely. Currently EV sites do not tend to change prices very often but this is a simple way for sites to get started and to ready their sites for the future,”: explained Rutger van Dierendonck, Technical Director of Bever Innovations. As well as their advanced connectivity, Bever’s LED price displays are easy to install and have been tested in even the most extreme weather conditions. The displays boast a long service life with low maintenance costs and the range of design options ensure that the brand’s corporate identity is clearly and accurately represented at all times of the day.

EN FUEL LED’S CONNECT THE FUTURE
CLIENT: Agri Sneltank LOCATION: Zierikzee, the Netherlands PROJECT: Installation InMo LED Screen, Luci Series LED Under Canopy Illumination, Area Illumination

The AgriSneltank petrol station in Zierikzee recently moved from 't Sas to the Gouwepoort industrial estate. On the N256 and close to the Zeeland Bridge, a roofed AgriSneltank filling station with several AgriSnellaad (fast) charging stations has been built that is open on both sides and is quite a unique feature in the Netherlands. Motorists, truck drivers, motorcyclists and scooter riders can therefore literally drive in and out of the new filling station. In contrast to the standard canopies on poles, the futuristic filling station was built entirely under architecture, in which active search was made for new and sustainable (alternative) techniques. The Bever Innovations' LED lighting and InMotion (InMo) LED screens are a perfect match.

"We have been a partner and supplier of AgriSnel tank for a long time; for Luci Series LED canopy lighting, Ambiente area lighting and LED price signs at all locations," says Marnick Blom, Account Man ager BeNeLux at Bever Innovations, Fuel division. "We were also involved at an early stage in this par ticular new construction project in order to help think about the best solutions for the canopy and terrain lighting. In addition, the owner of AgriSneltank and AgriSnellaad CZAV was looking for innovative price signs that show more than the static fuel prices. We soon arrived at our new and innovative InMo LED dis play, which is graphically very attractive and displays information in high resolution."

ADDED VALUE

Until now, the InMo LED screen was mostly used at manned fuel stations, where there is also a shop, says Blom. "For example, to promote the sandwiches and coffee in the shop, where the screen can be easily recouped. However, the AgriSneltank filling station in Zierikzee is an un manned station, without a shop. Nevertheless, CZAV quickly saw the added value of InMo. The operator sees its newest filling station location as the perfect location to explore and promote devel opments in loading capacity and alternative ener gy sources to customers. Our LED screens can be of great added value here.

SOFTWARE DISTRIBUTION

Bever Innovations supplied a total of two InMo LED screens, which were modularly constructed with RGB LED tiles measuring 32 by 32 centimetres. "Software-wise, the screens are divided into two," says Blom. "Thanks to a link with the POS system, the most up-to-date fuel prices can always be shown at the top of the screen, without the administrator and/or (technical) employee having to worry about this. Space has been reserved at the bottom of the screen for additional information. For example, information about the electric quick chargers, charging capacities and/or special fuels with which the filling station wants to make a difference in the region.

CLIENT: Fieten Oil fuel station LOCATION: Hoofddorp, The Netherlands PROJECT: Installation InMo LED Screen, Luci Series LED Under Canopy Illumination, Area Illumination, LED Contour Illumination GB FUEL LED’S CONNECT THE FUTURE

CASE STUDY

A new Fieten Olie fuel station opened on the junction between Spoorlaan and Nieuwe Bennebroekerweg in Hoofddorp at the end of January. The fuel and lubricant supplier’s 40th and largest fuel station features 12 fuel pumps, 4 car washes and 4 vacuum cleaner points. A fast charger for electric cars and facilities for hydrogen (H2) are to be added later this year.

Fieten Olie deems encouraging sustainability to be important and has decided to offer the most sustainable diesel (HVO 100) in Hoofddorp alongside Euro 95, Diesel, Blue One and AdBlue. The canopy is fitted with solar panels to enable the fuel station and car washes to run on green energy. Furthermore, sustainable LED lighting has been installed everywhere. They opted for the Luci Series LED canopy lighting and Ambiente site lighting from Bever Innovations. Moreover, Concis BV—a multidisciplinary bureau for advertising, house style management, media and design—commissioned Bever Innovations to supply its new, innovative InMotion (InMo) LED screen and red LED contour lighting for the canopy and car washes.

UNIQUE DESIGN

Concis BV has been taking care of the design, development and implementation of Fieten Olie’s house style in a variety of formats for many years now. Consider in this regard such things as lettering on fuel stations, printed material and illuminated and façade advertising, as well as pricing displays, with the LED pricing displays invariably being supplied by Bever Innovations. ‘We were awarded the full contract for the Fieten Olie project in Hoofddorp too’, says

beverinnovations.com
‘The InMo LED screen is graphically much more appealing than other LED screens on the market.'

John Vaartjes, Creative Director at Concis BV. ‘Nonetheless, the unique design of this fuel station with its partially sloping canopy and technology column underneath prompted us to do things a little differently. Rather than a standard pricing display, we advised using an LED screen, which will make it easy to communicate not only current fuel prices but also other campaigns and prices in the future. For the adjacent car washes, for instance.’

EXCEEDINGLY HIGH CONTRAST, GUARANTEED LEGIBILITY

The decision coincided precisely with the roll-out of Bever Innovations’ innovative InMo LED screen, he adds. ‘The InMo LED screen is graphically much more appealing than other LED screens on the market. What’s more, the resolution is better and we’re extremely impressed with the quality of Bever’s products. From a technical perspective, Bever Innovations provided us with first-rate guidance throughout this project too. From the consulting process right up to installation of the LED screen.’

Fieten Olie and Concis BV deem it important for (fuel) prices to be clearly visible and current at all times, says Marnick Blom, Account Manager BeNeLux at Bever Innovations. ‘The InMo LED screen homes in on this need perfectly. The high-quality LEDs were specially developed for outdoor use and therefore provide optimal protection against rain, wind, hail, UV radiation, extremely low and high temperatures and other weather influences. Thanks to the combination of the black look of the LEDs and the high light output, the screen also guarantees extremely high contrast and legibility in all weather conditions. The screen automatically adapts to the ambient light level. Since several light sensors have been integrated into the screen, the LEDs also respond if only part of the screen is in direct sunlight.’

LED’S CONNECT THE FUTURE

THE RIGHT PRICE AT ALL TIMES

Thanks to a link with the Point of Sale (POS) system, the most up-to-date fuel prices are displayed automatically on the LED screen without the manager and/or technical or other staff having to lift a finger, says Blom. ‘A converter ensures the right translation from the cash register “language” to the communication protocol in the InMo LED screen, after which the information is relayed automatically to the screen by way of a wireless connection. As only pricing is to be communicated in Fieten Olie’s case, a pixel pitch of 10 mm sufficed.’

STRAIGHTFORWARD ASSEMBLY

Aside from its image and its legibility, the InMo LED screen distinguishes itself by means of its plug-and-play installation. The modular system is comprised of elongated lines in various heights and widths which can be easily stacked horizontally or vertically on a basic frame. Despite measuring 4 x 2 metres, the screen is very lightweight, meaning a lightweight structure is enough to support it. The InMO LED screen, the Luci Series LED canopy lighting and the Ambiente site lighting come with Bever Innovations’ wireless, integrated EOS network technology as standard, making it easy to connect up, monitor and manage systems in future (if desired). Thus making the lighting equipment just as future-proof as the fuel station.
