Meet our tutors From left to right: Will Pemberton, Lisa Bennison, Chris Taylor, Jenny Culver and Andy Lawson Since Bettys first opened in 1919, we have built up a remarkable team of specialist craftsmen and women including master bakers, chocolatiers, confectioners, chefs and tea and coffee blenders. Bettys Cookery School is unique in being able to draw from this rich resource of talent and experience for our courses.

Our Cookery School tutors are accomplished, professional chefs with a wealth of catering experience between them. Some are Bettys through and through, whilst others have worked as head chefs in country house hotels and well-renowned restaurants. They deliver an outstanding level of training that will inspire you – it’s one of the main reasons why many of our students keep coming back, course after course.

OUR COOKERY SCHOOL You will find a bright, modern, air-conditioned and spacious teaching kitchen for you to work in, with high quality equipment and appliances. Our chef demo area is equipped with an HD video screen, ensuring you can see every detail of the techniques being taught. And our local supply partners provide an array of fresh and seasonal ingredients to cook with.

We are located on a private site next to Bettys awardwinning Craft Bakery in Harrogate, where all the cakes, chocolates and breads are made for our six Café Tea Rooms.

Course: Naughty but Nice

Course: Continental Bread

Discover the wonderful taste of freshly made cakes, bakes, puddings and desserts. Using our Bettys expertise we’ll guide and help you master the many different techniques used in baking, to make sure you achieve perfect delicious results. Some of the courses we offer in this area are Cakes & Bakes, Baking with Chocolate, Sweet Surrender and Seasonal Baking courses.

We will share with you the secret of the perfect loaf in our range of bread courses. With courses suited for beginners through to advanced, including Artisan Breads, Yorkshire Breads and Continental Breads, you’ll learn how to create wonderful breads using the finest ingredients with guidance from our bakery experts.

If you adore chocolate in all forms then these are the courses for you! For over 95 years Bettys has lovingly hand-crafted beautiful chocolates – so you’re in the very best hands. We cover a wide range of chocolate-making techniques, such as hand-tempering and hand-dipping chocolate.

Courses include The Chocolate Box and Bettys Chocolate Experience.

Join us as we share our wealth of knowledge and top tips for the perfect pastry which can turn a simple recipe into something truly special.

Pâtisserie really is a culinary art form and we can teach you the intricate techniques and methods to produce the most delectable deserts and pastries.

We show you how every meal can be something special. In these courses we share with you our recipes for tasty meals which can be enjoyed on more informal occasions with family and friends. These courses are suitable for cooks of all abilities and range from our very popular One Pot Wonders, through to our more exotic The Spice Box. We also offer some fantastic Fish and Vegetarian courses.

At these events you can sit back, relax and be inspired as you watch our expert chefs show you how to prepare a selection of delicious dishes from start to finish. They will provide tips and share their years of kitchen wisdom. You will also be able to enjoy eating food from the demonstration along with a glass of Swiss wine.
