Lagan Ceremony The Kayastha matrimonial commences with the Lagan ceremony. This is more like the engagement ceremony. The bride and groom’s families exchange the Lagan Patrika, a formal invitation to the wedding. They cover the Patrika with silver coconut, barley and betel nuts. The bride’s family will also send gifts and dresses to the groom. They will hand the gifts to the groom after performing the Ganesha puja. Engagement After sending the Patrika will come the engagement ceremony. During this Kayastha matrimonial ceremony, the couples will exchange rings. This happens as a token of love for their upcoming Kayastha matrimonial. This ceremony usually takes place during the night time. After exchanging the rings the guests will have a feast. The elders of both families will fix an auspicious date and time for the Kayastha matrimonial. They will do this based on the horoscope matching of the bride and groom. This date goes on the wedding invitation and then relatives and friends will get it. Bhat Nyotna With this ceremony, the Kayastha matrimonial traditions commence. During this ceremony, the bride’s mother will go to the groom’s house to invite them to the wedding. Because it is a tradition not to go to the wedding without being invited. Meanwhile, the groom’s mother will also do the same by visiting the bride’s house. After this, they will exchange the wedding invitation cards. Then only they will give the invitations to relatives and friends. HaldiKutai This is nothing but the Haldi ceremony in other traditions. The groom’s mother and other women from the family gather to perform this ceremony. They will prepare a paste which consists of chunri, tika and Nath. With these ingredients, the haldi paste is made and a portion of this is sent to the bride’s house. They will also sing songs during this Kayastha matrimonial ceremony.
