Salatul Ishtikara Salatul Ishtikara is actually an official announcement of the wedding for the first time. Here the Imaam prays to Allah for the auspicious start and peaceful ending of the wedding celebrations.

Imam Zamin Imam Zamin is the formal acceptance of the Muslim bride in the groom’s family. In this ritual, the mother of the groom visits to the bride’s place and offers her some gifts, sweets, money, and silver coins. She then wraps the silver coins in the piece of cloth and ties it to the wrist of the bride. This is the welcoming gesture of the groom’s family for the bride.

Mangni

Mangni is no unusual term for us to understand. It is the same ring ceremony that is observed in almost every culture in India. It is the exchange of the ring between the bride and the groom and families make a public announcement of the wedding. Most of the close family members, friends, and relatives are present on the occasion. Later, the families of the bride and the groom organize a small feast for the guests in the Mangni.

Manjha Manjha is similar to the Haldi function observed in the rest of the cultures in India. The Muslim bride and the groom are made to wear yellow clothes and smeared in a paste made of Haldi, sandalwood, and rose water. The paste is applied to both bride and groom in their respective place, mostly by the female members of the family. This function takes place two days before the wedding and the couple is not allowed to see each other after this till the Nikaah.

Mehendi The Mehendi function takes place at the Muslim bride’s place with full pompous and celebrations. The bride along with female members of the family apply Henna on their hands and feet by the Mehendi professional. The professional draws an intricate beautiful design on the palm and writes the initials on the groom in a hideous manner. Later, the groom is suppose to find his name on the bride’s hand before the Suhaag Raat.

Sanchaq Sanchaq is the final pre-wedding ritual in Muslim matrimonial weddings. In this ritual, the male members of the groom’s family visit the bride’s place. Thereafter, they shower the bride with gifts, jewelry, sweets, and a bridal outfit with accessories. Sanchaq is another gesture of blessing and welcome for the bride into her new family.

Baraat

Baraat is the same as any other ritual in Indian marriages. The groom’s possession leaves his place in a decorated car with the music band for the wedding venue. Also, one of the male members of the bride’s family goes to the groom’s place to escort him to the venue.

Welcome The welcoming ritual is for the groom observed by the bride’s side of the family. The Muslim groom is served sherbet the moment he reaches the wedding venue. The bride’s brother drinks the same along with the groom to accompany him. Later, an attar or rose water is sprinkled on the groom as a welcoming gesture.

Nikaah The Nikaah is the primary Muslim matrimony ritual. The bride and the groom are made to sit opposite each other with a hijab separating them to see each other. The males sit on the groom’s side and the females sit on the bride’s side during the Nikaah. The father of the bride is wali and he sits beside his daughter. Thereafter, Maulvi asks for the consent of both the bride and the groom if they are ready to wed each other. The couple has to say “Qubool Hai” in response, three times. Finally, a Nikaahnama (marriage contract) is signed by the groom and the Muslim bride in the presence of the witnesses, i.e. their family members. Afterward, a Khutba is recited, followed by the marriage vows in the Quran. The newly wedded couple then take the blessings of Maulvi and the elders for their happy married life.

Arsi Musharaf The bride and the groom cannot see each other directly and see each other through a mirror kept in between them. This ritual is called Arsi Mushraf.

Rukhsat

Rukhsat is same as Bidaai. This is the first pot-wedding ritual where the married Muslim bride finally leaves her family and set her new journey to her new home with her husband. It is one of the most emotional moments in the entire wedding where the bride has to bid goodbye to all her family members.
