2.1.1 48-BIT COLOR, 16-BIT GRAYSCALE The scanner hardware captures and processes 48-bit color data and 16-bit grayscale to produce more realistic, accurate detail. Only Contex scanners have this feature in wide-format scanning.

2.1.2 ALL-WHEEL-DRIVE The paper transport system in the scanner has been designed to ensure high standards for a perfectly straight scanning path with an optimal hold across the whole width of large documents. Contour adjustment and broad synchronized rollers ensure a perfectly straight scanning path without using unnecessary force so you avoid both image distortion and damage to fragile originals.

2.1 KEY SPECIFICATIONS:

2.1.3 AUTOMATIC THICKNESS ADJUSTMENT CONTROL (ATAC) The scanner has the ability to scan up to 0.6 “(15 mm) thick originals. The ATAC feature makes inserting and scanning thick originals easy. Simply insert your thick original for scanning and press down the ATAC button. Sensors in the scanner monitor the pressure on the original’s surface and position the guide plate at the optimal level.

2.1.4 ACCURATE LENS ENHANCEMENT (ALE) This patented Contex technology electronically maintains 0.1% +/- 1pixel precision across any two points of the scan line thus exceeding even the most rigid requirements in the industry today. Combined with an equally accurate paper transport system, ALE ensures that point-to-point distance anywhere in the document is maintained in the scanned image. This is extremely important for many CAD and GIS applications.

2.1.5 AUTOMATIC SCANNER MAINTENANCE The Contex 3C Auto-Maintenance system keeps the scanner’s cameras perfectly aligned, adjusted, and calibrated for optimal image quality. The process is automatic – just insert the maintenance sheet and click the wizard’s start button. The 3C Auto-Maintenance system aligns and stitches your cameras to a fraction of a pixel giving the highest wide format image precision available. Using patented technology, camera stitching and black-white-points are constantly monitored and corrected while your scanner is running, letting you concentrate on your work and take optimal scanner performance for granted.

2.1.6 BUILT-IN IMAGE ENHANCEMENT The scanner has built-in patented B/W adaptive thresholding works simultaneously on foreground, background, edges, and other individual aspects of the original so you produce clean, crisp scans even from poor quality drawings. All processing is embedded in the hardware enabling you to perform powerful image enhancement without overhead and at speeds well beyond standard software processing.

2.1.8 WIDESYSTEMNET SCANNER CONTROL SOFTWARE The WIDEsystemNET program is designed to integrate the wide format scanner with the controller. It contains the device drivers for the scanner and monitors the scanner status at all times through a convenient icon in the system tray.

2.1.9 ENERGY SAVER SETTINGS WIDEsystemNET controls the operating time of the scanner for energy saving purposes. The scanner can be easily programmed to power-on and off at any time of day, and can be set to standby after a given period of time.

2.1.10 SCAN-TO-NET Providing true multi-function capability means scanning to file, print and the network.

WIDEsystemNET includes a special settings panel for enabling scan-tonet features. This setup allows scanning directly from the scanning workstation to clients on the network (push) and allows the scanner to be shared with other clients on the network who can use the scanner remotely (pull). For more information about networking features, see section 5 below.

2.1.11 JETIMAGENET MULTI-FUNCTION SOFTWARE

2.1.12 JETIMAGENET INTERFACE/FUNCTION Copy For direct scan-to-print copying. All the primary copy options are conveniently grouped in the Copy Tab and will be sufficient for most common copy tasks.

Preinstalled templates for photos, brochures, maps, sepias, blueprints and normal drawings together with automatic input size detection make primary settings easy. Fully adjustable color and B/W parameters are available for the very demanding copy assignments. All main copy tasks, including load preview, collate copy, and start copy, are activated through convenient toolbar buttons.

Option for sending copies to any printer on the local LAN.

Scan JETimageNET's flexibility lets you scan to a file and later on output whole batches of files to the printer through the Print Tab. The Scan Tab contains the same easy functionality available in the Copy Tab including the preinstalled templates for photos, brochures, maps, sepias, blueprints and normal drawings together with automatic size detection. Contains options for setting scan resolution, file format and folder destination. Includes scan to PDF format with quality option setting. Option for scanning to any scan client located on the internet or the local LAN.

Print With the JETimageNET's scan-to-file feature, you can store copies before sending them to the printer. In the Print Tab, you choose one or more of your stored files for printing. With JETimageNET, copy professionals can get the most out of their schedule. The Print Tab contains options that help your organize your copies into large sets of copy jobs that can be printed out on their own overnight. Option for outputting your files to any printer on the local LAN.

Setup Make quality copies with optimal output factors. The Setup Tab contains options for setting up your printer, defining your printing media, and designing your copy's layout with paneling, tiling, and nesting. You can set the exact margins you want produced in your copy and preview the total layout on screen. When you select your media profile with a given printer, you automatically trigger optimal color matching relationships between scanner, printer, and output media. JETimageNET comes with predefined media profiles for common printers and printing media and supports custom media profiles through Closed Loop Calibration. The JETimageNET software is updated with the new B&W adaptive scanning algorithm developed by Contex.

3. GENERAL INFORMATION 3.1 SCREWS SECURED BY SEALING LACQUER Some screws, nuts or the like are sealed by sealing lacquer. The color of the sealing lacquer signals the following:

3.2 MARKING CODES FOR CIRCUIT BOARDS All circuit boards are identified by a 4-letter code, where the fourth letter designates a specific variant of the board. The board identification code is followed by a board revision number (functional level) and for newer boards, also an extra letter in parenthesis. This extra letter is unimportant in this connection.

The marking of all printed circuit boards may be exemplified by the marking of the SUH Board: SUHE02(B) Which designates SUH Board, variant E, revision 02.

The (B) is of no importance and should be neglected.

The revision number is updated only if the functionality of the board has been changed. Updated boards will always be backwards compatible.

3.3 DOWNLOADING SCANNER FIRMWARE The scanner firmware is stored in Flash Memory on the SUH Board.

Firmware is downloaded to the scanner through the USB 2.0 interface; please refer to any readme.txt for download instructions.

The download program is started by double-clicking the self-extracting firmware file.

It is recommended to disable WIDEsystem before upgrading the firmware to prevent any possible problems caused this program accessing the scanner during the upgrade.

Scanner firmware is available on the TSC support website.

3.3.1 ERASE AND RESTORE PARAMETER BLOCKS When trouble shooting it may be advisable to clear the parameter blocks in the scanner to reset these to default values.

The parameter blocks can be erased from Scanner Maintenance by right-click on the Title Bar and select Erase Parameter Blocks from the pull-down menu.

1. Fix the Base Tube (2) to the Feet (4) (5) using six of the M6x16 Screws (1), two from the end and one from below at either end. Use the enclosed Key (14) but do not tighten the screws fully yet.

2. Fix the Left Leg (6) to the Left Foot (4) using two of the M6x16 Screws (1).

Do not tighten the screws fully yet.

3. Fix the Right Leg (7) to the Right Foot (5) using two of the M6x16 Screws (1).

Do not tighten the screws fully yet.

4. Place the stand on its casters.

6. Fix the Left Arm (8) on the outside of the Left Leg using two of the M6x16 Screws (1). Do not tighten the screws fully yet.

7. Fix the Right Arm (9) on the outside of the Right Leg using two of the M6x16 Screws (1). Do not tighten the screws fully yet.

8. Place the Bar with VESA Mount (10) between the Arms (8) (9). The Bar with VESA Mount MUST NOT rest on the top of the arms while the two M6x30 Screws (11) are placed in the holes of the Bar. 9. Fix the PC Mount (20) on the Right Foot of the stand using two of the M6x15 Screws (1). Tighten all 20 M6 screws hard.

10. Place the two Plastic Plug Buttons (16) in the holes of the Bar with VESA Mount (10).

11. Place the scanner on the top of the stand. The backside of the scanner shall face the "Back" label on Top Bar (see top drawing), and the rubber feet of the scanner shall fit in the larger parts of the "key holes" on the Top Bar.

5. Place the Top Bar (3) between the Legs (6) (7). The Top Bar can rest on the top of the legs while two M6x16 Screws (1) are placed in the holes nearest to the front.

12. Fix the scanner by means of the four slotted Screws (11). Only use the special screws, which come with the stand. Spare screws can be ordered under part number: 2205A211.

13. Unpack Touch Screen, fix this on the VESA Mount using the four M4xl0 Screws (12), and tighten the screws when all four are in place.

14. Tilt the Touch Screen to the desired position and fasten the nuts on both sides of the VESA Joint using the 13mm wrench (15).

15. Slide off all the Cable Canal Lids on the Shelf.

16. Place VGA and Y-power cable in the Cable Canal first and then place the USB cable in the Cable Canal. Click the Lids back on.

17. Place Corners "L" (18) and Tee "T" (19) on Cable Canal.

18. Release the liner on the 3 pieces of re-closable fastener on the Mouse/Keyboard Storage Plate (17). Place the Plate (see drawing left) in a suitable position on the scanner lid and press hard downward for a couple of seconds.

19. To complete tile installation please start the 'Scanner Maintenance' application. Select "Calibrate ATAC" from the Drop Down Menu.

CAUTION: Neglecting to carry out Step 11 and 12 may result in injury to persons if the scanner is tipped off the stand.

The sensors are located under the Top Profile of the Original Guide. To get access to the sensors: • Remove the Ruler from the Original Guide • Remove the 4 fixing screws behind the Ruler • Open the Top Profile (Lid) • Release the lock screw in one of the bearings of the Top Profile • Slide the bearing off and lift off the Top Profile Note 1: All sensors are click-mounted on brackets. The position of the sensor brackets are secured by means of two fixing screws. To make the sensor adjustment easier, the left fixing screw goes through a round and the right through an oblong hole.

The bracket for the tacho sensor is secured by only one fixing screw Note 2: For safety reasons, the current to the Elevation Motor is constantly monitored. If the currents exceeds a predetermined value, the drive circuit will be switched OFF and the motor stops and can no longer be controlled from the Operator Panel. Note 3: When moving the Original Guide towards�top position,� the motor should be manually stopped before the spindle-nut reach the left end of the spindle. Allow for a clearance of about 1-2 mm as shown below. Insert the 1.5 mm end of the two Adjustment Tools under the roller shaft on both sides of the Roller Sensor, and adjust the position of the Roller Sensor just to turn the Roller indicator on (1).

Insert the 1 mm end of the two Adjustment Tools under the roller shaft on both sides of the Roller Sensor, and check that the Roller indicator is off (0).

Adjust the position of the Top Position sensor just to turn the Power LED ON Open the Original Guide Orientate the two adjustment guides for 15.5 mm spacing and place the guides under the Original Guide at either end of the scan area.

The surface marked “15.5� must be facing the White Background Plate.

5.11 LCA, LAMP CARTRIDGE The Lamp Cartridge consists of a lamp and a light sensor.

Each Lamp Cartridge is factory calibrated which means that the Lamp Cartridge can be replaced without the need for adjustment.

IMPORTANT: Do not try to disassemble the Lamp Cartridge in order to replace the lamp. This will ruin the calibration resulting in either reduced scanning quality or reduced lamp life.

If the Vertical Alignment Arm has moved almost to one of the outer positions, it needs to be returned to its initial position. A reason to this could be that the arm is not fixed properly to the Vertical Adjustment Screw or because the vertical position of the fixed camera has changed significantly. The vertical position of the cameras should therefore be checked and adjusted at the same time.

6.1.1 CCD-CAMERAS

The adjustment procedures presented in this chapter cover all adjustments needed for replacing the complete CCD-camera.

It will hardly ever be necessary to replace mechanical parts such as Lens, Camera Housing, etc., and in most cases, the only adjustments necessary after replacement of the CM Board are: (Refer to page 5-8 to Page 5-9) •

The parts of the CCD-Camera are mounted on a Camera Base Plate, and the complete CCD-Camera is mounted on a Mounting Platform, which is welded to the scanner chassis. The Camera is positioned with the optical axis perpendicular to the scan-area by means of two guide pins extending from the bottom of the Base Plate down into two slots in the Mounting Platform.

When the three Camera Fixing Screws are loosened for Camera Adjustment, two tension springs pull the Camera Base Plate down against the Mounting Platform. Another spring pulls the CCD-Camera in forward direction to keep the Scan Width Adjustment Screw in contact with the scanner chassis, and to the left to align the guide pins with the left edge of the slots in the Mounting Platform.

The Camera Housing can be tilted slightly up and down to position the scan line in the "vertical" direction by turning the Vertical Positioning Wheel. All cameras but one have a small Camera Motor, which via the Vertical Alignment Arm, may turn the Vertical Positioning Wheel.

The Camera Motor is controlled by Scanner Maintenance or SCANtest 6 software for automatic Vertical Alignment of the cameras.

Focus The CCD-Camera is focused by loosening the Focus Lock Ring / Lock Screw and turning the Lens Adapter to get the maximal amplitude of the image of the Focus Pattern.

The Lens itself is mounted in the Lens Adapter, and three Allen screws secure its position in the adapter. When these screws are loosened, the lens can be rotated to have the dot on the lens pointing upwards. This is the "best position" as determined by the lens manufacturer. This "best position" is not critical, and when doing field adjustments it will hardly ever be necessary to change the factory set position of the Lens.

On later models, slots in the Camera Housing allow the tube of the Camera Housing to be tightened around the Lens Adapter by means of a Focus Lock Screw, see page 6-7. The slots are covered by a flexible Covering Tape to prevent stray light from entering the camera.

Scan-Width The Scan-Width depends on the distance between the CCD-Camera and the scan-area. It can be adjusted by loosening the three Camera Fixing Screws and turning the Scan Width Adjustment Screw to slide the CCD-Camera back and forth to get the required number of Scan-Width Units within the field of vision, see Scan-Width Pattern, page 6-22.

The scaling accuracy of the scanner depends directly on the accuracy of the Scan-Width adjustment.

Vertical Positioning of CCD-Cameras To set the basic Vertical Position of all cameras, the lock screw of the Vertical Alignment Arm on the adjustable cameras are loosened and the Vertical Positioning Wheel adjusted to get 8 Black Lines of the Vertical Position Pattern, see page 6-22.

The Vertical Alignment Arm should now be positioned in parallel with the Back Plate of the camera. The Vertical Alignment Arm may be turned by the Camera Motor using: SCANtest 6, Test 9, Camera Motor Camera Forward (1), to move the arm away from the Back Plate.

Reverse (2), to move the arm towards the Back Plate.

Or, alternatively, the Vertical Alignment Arm may be turned by dismantling the Camera Motor and turning the pulley of the spindle by hand, see page 6-2.

Tighten the lock screw when the Vertical Alignment Arm is parallel with the Back Plate.

6.2 ADJUSTING THE CAMERA TILT If the correct vertical position during camera adjustment can not be obtained by means of the tilt levers (see section 6.3.5) the camera tilt must be changed as described below.

Important: On cameras with motor set the Vertical Alignment Arm to its initial position before adjusting the camera, tilt as described above.

6.2.1 CAMERA TILT The vertical position is adjusted by turning the Vertical Adjustment Screw (located under the camera housing) which tilts the camera. The screw must be turned using a special spanner and as it can be seen in Fig. 6-1 page 6-2 the spanner is the one end of the upper half of the Vertical Alignment Arm. However, even when the Vertical Alignment Arm is not fixed to the Vertical Adjustment Screw the camera tilt will change slightly when turning the Vertical Alignment Arm. Because of this the Vertical Alignment Arm has to be installed and set to its initial position when adjusting the vertical position of the camera.

As this rules out using the upper half of the Vertical Alignment Arm of the camera which is adjusted, this part is attached to the spindle console of the fixed camera (camera B). The sole purpose of this part is to be used when adjusting the camera tilt.

On cameras with motor: Loosen the lock screw for the Vertical Alignment Arm (located under the camera housing opposite to the Vertical Alignment Arm) On the fixed camera (camera B) locate the “upper half of the Vertical Alignment Arm” which is attached to the spindle console.

Loosen the fixing screw and remove the arm. The end opposite to the spindle end is now used as a spanner for adjusting the Vertical Position; see Fig. 6-1 page 6-2.

Set the Vertical Tilt Levers to their nominal positions, that is, horizontal position for the lever near the “connector end” of the camera board and vertical position for the other.

Turn the Vertical Adjustment Screw using the “spanner” to get as total sum of 16 Black Lines (i.e. 5 Black Lines at the start and 11 Black Lines at the end of the scanline).

6.3.2 CHECK AND ADJUSTMENT OF FOCUS IMPORTANT: The focus adjustment is factory optimized for all three colors (Red, Green and Blue) which may cause that the focus signal for Blue is not as even as it could be.

Only change the focus adjustment if it is absolutely necessary, i.e. if the ScanWidth is not within the limits given in 6.3.3.

Use Focus Pattern P/N VR379750 (3.3lp/mm) IMPORTANT: After replacement of the Camera Board (CBx) check the ScanWidth. It is ONLY necessary to adjust the focus if the Scan-Width is not within the limits given in 6.3.3.

Interaction The Focus adjustment has a big influence on the Scan-Width adjustment.

Therefore, the Scan-Width must be checked and readjusted if necessary when the Focus adjustment has been changed. On the other hand, the Focus adjustment is relative tolerant to changes in the Scan-Width adjustment and as a rule of thumb, the Scan-Width adjustment can be changed Âą1 SWU without the need for re-focusing.

7.10 TEST 12, ADJUSTMENT OF Y-AXIS SCALING Purpose: To adjust the Y-Axis Scaling.

Description: The scaling (dpi) in the mechanical scan direction (Y-Axis) depends on the speed of the stepper motor relative to the scanline Exposure Time. The default motor speed can be changed ± 1%, either from Test 12 or by using the ‘Scanner Setup/Correction factor …’ option of WIDEimage.

The correction factor is stored in the Flash Memory on the SUH Board.

7.11 TEST 13, SWITCH SCANNER TO TEST MODE

Purpose: To switch the scanner back to Test Mode. Useful if the scanner gets out of Test Mode, e.g. if it has to be turned OFF/ON during troubleshooting.

7.12 TEST 20, NOISE TEST Purpose: To detect and locate the possible cause (dust, dirt, scratches,..) of vertical lines running from top to bottom of the scanned image.

Description: Test 20 scans the White Calibration Area of the SM Calibration Sheet and displays, for each color channel, the graytone values of each separate pixel averaged over the scanned band.

The displayed image of the SM Calibration Sheet will be superimposed by low level noise caused by the CCD chip, and larger spikes most likely caused by dust, dirt, scratches, or similar defects on the Glass Plate. In rare cases, larger spikes may be caused by dust, dirt, or pixel faults on the CCD chip.

The positions of larger spikes are shown by the numbers (cm or inch units) opposite to the spikes. The numbers refer to the Sideload-ruler on the scanner.

Larger spikes going downwards are often caused by dust, dirt, scratches, or similar defects on the Glass Plate and may be remove by cleaning the Glass Plate.

Downward spikes often show up as darker vertical lines in the scanned image, see Fig. 7-2, and page 7-7.

Larger spikes going upwards are often caused by dust or dirt present on the Glass Plate during the last calibration with Scanner Maintenance. These defects are memorized by the Light Profiles stored in Flash Memory and can only be removed by cleaning of the Glass Plate followed by running Scanner Maintenance again.

Upward spikes show up as very bright vertical lines in the scanned image, see Fig. 7-2, and page 7-7.

White vertical lines in the scanned image may be found even if Noise Test shows a perfectly â&#x20AC;&#x2DC;cleanâ&#x20AC;&#x2122; scanner. In this case, the cause may be white dust or particles on the backside of the Glass Plate having the same color as the white background.

In this case, the Light Profiles of Test 9 may show upwards going spikes when a dark original is placed in the scan-area.

7.13 TEST 21, SCANDUMP Purpose: To create a file, SCANdump.con, which contains Light Profiles and other scanner data for diagnostics purposes.

Description: The file SCANdump.con will be placed in the directory pointed to by the SET TEMP environment variable.

The files contained in SCANdump.con may be unpacked by SCANview by double clicking on SCANdump.con.

The unpacked Light Profiles may be viewed by SCANview. If other files are included use an appropriate reader or viewer.

Description: When started the status of the sensors on the LMx board will be displayed. All should have a green check mark (9) to their left.
