Men’s Club Ladies and Gentlemen of Beth Judea: over 50 years ago I was in little league. To make things fair to all the players, there were three levels of competency ratings. The very good, the average, and the artistic types. I was an artistic type. I missed a few practices and games due to the fact that I had very little interest in the game. If my mother didn’t remind me that we had a practice, or a game, I usually didn’t bring it up either. The thing that I remember most about little league, was the coach. As you may have surmised, his son was on our team. I can’t recall his son’s name, but his love of or lack thereof was on a par with my own. When we were playing a game, although I was out on the field, my mind was not. Our coach, realizing he had a field filled with day dreamers would occasionally call out to us, “Is anybody out there?” This was our cue to show we were still in the game and lend support to the infield. “Hey batter ho batter, hey batter etc. you get the idea. The joke among the contributors of this publication is nobody reads the Word. Well I do. And I know I’m not alone. I’m calling out to all of the members of Beth Judea. Is

anybody out there? One of the activities that is part of Men’s Club is Hearing Men’s Voices. Every one of us has at least one story. Attending one of these events will give voice to who you are and perhaps a person who has something of value to offer. These and other upcoming events will be

announced in The Word. This coming Sunday, Sept. 4th, we are going to meet after minyan around 10:00 AM to help rebuild the parts of our Sukkah that have become unusable. Sandy Victor and I will be there with materials and tools. The actual Sukkah building will take place Oct. 9th. Sept. 18th we are dedicating our new Sefer Haftarah at 12:00 noon. This promises to be a very spiritually uplifting and joyous occasion. Sept. 24th is a Saturday that Our Men’s Club volunteers to help at Lieberman Center where we assist the residences there with a Shabbat service. Contact me at Fivepie@aol.com if you are interested in participating in this embracing mitzvah. Sept. 24th at 9:00 PM is Selichot when we welcome in the High Holidays. Yours truly will be among the members of the Choir singing that night. I am hoping by this time we can look forward to more temperate weather, as this has been a particularly hot and sticky summer. Good health and safe travels to all.
