BETA Hack 2023

Theme: Ignite, Inspire, Innovate

The 2023 BETA Camp will be our 10th annual engineering and technology summer camp and will take place under the theme “Ignite, Inspire, Innovate”. This year’s BETA Camp theme is intended to capture what we aim to do for our students and what we hope to achieve for education in the country. The camp will be held in-person and will create an opportunity for students to dive into foundational technology and engineering principles through the application of hands-on and project based learning. Students are taught by engineering and technology professionals across the two weeks where they will learn theory and perform daily lab activities to solidify teaching concepts.

We have an imperative to transform learning and education within our country, BETA Camp is helping to provide access to quality STEM education that can and will change the trajectory of our skilled labor force in the years and decades to come. The investment must be made at this level and must be made now.

The field tours allow students to acquire front-line exposure to engineering and technology being applied in real life settings. These tours are strategically planned to have relevance to the camp theme as well as the engineering streams. We believe in the importance of augmenting classroom learning with field experience that not only provides exposure but gives students visibility into the opportunities available both at home and abroad with an emphasis on local opportunities. For this camp we will be coordinating a combination of in-person tours where possible as well as virtual tours where applicable.

Camp Objectives

The field tours allow students to acquire front-line exposure to engineering and technology being applied in real life settings. These tours are strategically planned to have relevance to the camp theme. We believe in the importance for augmenting classroom learning with field experience that not only provides exposure but gives students visibility into the opportunities available in both locally and globally. For this hybrid camp we will coordinating a combination of in-person tours where possible as well as virtual tours.

Provide hands-on and project-based learning activities that will illuminate engineering principles and foundations

Increase interest in science and technology through project-based learning and a design challenge

Improve student understanding of engineering/technology job functions and the Engineering Design Process (EDP)

Provide exposure to real-life applications of engineering through field tours and the design challenge

Provide funding for students from disadvantaged backgrounds to participate in the camp
