Alumni Win Again: Film at 11 FOR A FEW OF THE EIGHT innings of play, it looked like Beta-Rho’s undergrads would finally obliterate the alumni’s softball game winning streak on Sept. 30 at Shoup Park in Woodland Hills. Nah. It didn’t happen, but it was close. Despite a one-run deficit in the fifth inning, the alumni fought back and extended their winning streak by a score of 21-18. The game might’ve stretched to nine innings, but at 4:30 the teams had played on the diamond for a half hour past their allotted two-hour field reservation and called it a day. The temperature at game time was a sunny 99 degrees, part of an early fall heat wave that attracted a blue ABC7 news van to the parking lot off of right field. A female news reporter holed up in the van’s front passenger seat revealed that they shot footage of the game to use with the local news station’s

some Otter Pops to the actives and some of the fans in the grandstands. “That ruined us,” High Alpha Alex Samovitz (BP 568) quipped at the October 10 corp. board meeting. “We went downhill after that,” added another brother. Another secret weapon that added to the alumni’s advantage was John Sager (BP 93) who played catcher and batted in three runners.
