Congratulations Matt Dickerson!

by Liz Burnett

The July Sproul Lanes Student of the Month is Matt Dickerson, who will be a Senior at Marple Newtown High School this fall! Matt received a Certificate of Achievement, and a “Pizza Bowl” gift certificate courtesy of Sproul Lanes, our Sponsor of this program.

Since 8th grade, Matt has regularly and consistently demonstrated Excellence in Service to many local communities! He’s a frequent volunteer for Kids Against Hunger (KAH), and in lieu of a Christmas gift from his parents last year, he asked his parents to make a donation to KAH in his name. Their donation was matched by another generous donor who shares Matt’s desire to support KAH’s mission. He also participates in food drives that help several local churches keep their food banks supplied for their outreach ministries. And as a Venturer with Crew 151, Matt enjoys and often takes the initiative to organize community service projects.

Matt also serves his school community by sharing his talents as a drummer and percussionist in the Marple Newtown Tiger Marching Band, the Concert Band and the Jazz Band. And since age 4, he has been a team member on many Marple Newtown Soccer Association teams.

Matt’s academic, leadership, service and character excellence have been recognized by his induction into 6 Honor Societies: the National Honor Society, the Science and English National Honor Societies, the Tri-M Music Honor Society, the World Language Honors Society, and the Rho Kappa National Social Studies Honor Society.

When Matt was in 4th grade, he lost the tip of his little finger on his right hand in a swingset accident. That got him interested in how prosthetics and implants help improve the qualify of life for people who’ve lost a leg or an arm. Those medical technologies use advanced electrical engineering, which Matt plans on studying in college so he can combine his heartfelt desire to help people with his intellectual and leadership skills.

All your Friends & Neighbors in the Marple Newtown community thank you for your service, Matt. We congratulate you on this award, and wish you well in all your future endeavors!
