The May Sproul Lanes Student of the Month is Michela Favazza, a Senior at Cardinal O’Hara High School! Michela received a Certificate of Achievement, and a “Pizza Bowl” gift certificate courtesy of Sproul Lanes, our Sponsor of this program. Michela is a member of the National Honor Society (reserved for high school students who are in the top 10% of their class). As NHS Secretary, she schedules students for tutoring and helps run school events. She has participated all four years in her school’s “Big Buddy” program, through which she helps a 2nd-grader at a local elementary school with a school project or other learning assignments. Michela has served her local community and beyond by participating in her school’s annual food drives for Philabundance and other local food banks that serve the needy in Philadelphia and in our local community. She has also helped raise funds for the cure for pediatric cancer by participating in 5k walks in Philadelphia and in the annual Danny Hammond Dance Marathon (miniTHON). Field Hockey is Michela’s favorite sport. Since 6th grade, she has played year-round for Horizon Field Hockey Club in Wallingford, and she has played on O’Hara’s Varsity Field Hockey team all four years. This is her second year serving as her school team’s Co-Captain, and she’s especially proud of having been named Rookie of the Year as a Freshman and having helped her team win the 2019 Philadelphia Catholic Field Hockey League Championship. Michela has committed to play field hockey for Drexel University starting this fall. She looks forward to majoring in Legal Studies and qualifying for Drexel’s Pre-Law co-op learning program. Any student in grades 7 –12 who resides within the borders of the Marple Newtown School District can be nominated by a parent, teacher or themself. Send an email to SOTM@SproulLanes.com explaining several reasons why the student excels in Service to friendship, school or other local communities. Academic or athletic excellence may be considered but is not required. The Winner will be featured in next month's magazine and will also receive a Sproul Lanes Pizza Bowl Gift Certificate good for 2 hours of bowling for up to 10 people plus pizza, sodas, snacks and free shoe rental.
