Be Hair-Prepared for 2021

By Expert Contributor Mary Rosato, Owner of Salon Bella

Winter weather and the stress of a pandemic can stress out not only our mind, health and body, but also our hair. With the hustle and bustle of the holiday Be Hair-Prepared for 2021 season upon us, it’s important to not forget about taking care of ourselves and, of course, our hair. With trying to get those last-minute gifts and feast ingredients together, let’s focus on an easy and versatile color and style, to keep your hair healthy and vibrant.

Get ready for 2021 with an easy upkeep color service! A color melt, blonding, ombre or balayage can keep your hair looking lived in and lustrous for several months, which during a pandemic is a great option to help prevent having to come to the salon every month for a touch up.

But if you’re looking for a different or more frequent service, you’ll want to ensure the salon is following all CDC and State Board of Cosmetology restrictions and guidelines, to protect you during the pandemic while allowing you to enjoy the day of pampering you may need.

Some of those restrictions and guidelines include all clients having their temperature taken upon arrival; face masks are mandatory for all; hands must be washed upon entry; and clients waiting in their car for their appointment instead of in the salon’s waiting area. To create a safe and healthy environment for all, some salons are doing MORE than the minimum required: For example, their employees are working split shifts (half work morning and early afternoon; the other half work late afternoon and evening).

After your color service is complete, there are a few simple tips to keep your hair style vibrant and pandemic schedule friendly. Start with a bi-weekly conditioning treatment. Morrocain Oil provides the perfect Hydrating Mask to keep your hair always looking its best.

Try to wash your hair as little as possible throughout the week. (Yes, that may sound gross, but trust us on this one.) Over-washing your hair, especially in dry winter months, will cause it to dry out more quickly. That causes a ripple effect, and you’ll need to get color and trims more frequently. Also, try using as little hot water on your hair as possible. Cold or warm water gives the hair a shine and does not strip hair color. It also closes your pores and cuticles, to lock in the moisture we’re striving for.

For wedding hair and makeup, the best salons are also following all CDC guidelines while allowing stylists opportunities to be creative and showcase their unique styling and makeup skills.

The pandemic has forced ALL industries to change and evolve, and the hair industry has new healthy hair tips, colors, and tricks to prepare you for whatever 2021 may bring.
