About: MBBS full form stands for Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery. An MBBS degree is an undergraduate course for aspirants who want to fulfil their dream of becoming a doctor. What is MBBS Course?
MBBS course duration is five years and six months including one year of rotational internship at hospitals, health centres, and health camps organised by non profit organisations (NGOs). The curriculum of MBBS includes subjects such as anatomy, pharmacology, pathology as well as community health & medicine, paediatrics, and surgery. The curriculum is designed in such a way that MBBS degree holders can choose a specialisation for further majoring and practising medicine. MBBS students can opt for different specialisations such as Nephrology, Cardiology, Gynecology, Anesthesiology, Organ Transplant, Endocrine, and General Surgery, etc.
MBBS course is offered only in a full time degree mode. Owing to its rigorous course curriculum and pedagogy combining practical and theoretical lessons, it is not possible to offer an MBBS degree in a part time or Diploma formats.
Eligibility Criteria for MBBS
Candidates need to fulfil the following eligibility criteria in order to qualify for studying MBBS subjects.
Candidates must have passed Class 12/higher secondary/pre university qualifying examination with Science subjects i.e. Physics, Chemistry, and Zoology/Botany. They also must have studied English as the main subject as a criterion for qualifying examination.
Candidates also need to fulfil the age limit criteria i.e. they must have completed 17 years of age at the time of admissions
There are additional eligibility conditions as mentioned by the regulatory authorities for MBBS i.e. Medical Council of India (MCI).
MBBS Admissions Process
There are various ways of enrolling students in the MBBS program provided by various institutions and schools. In the Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery programmes, educational institutions use various methodologies to enrol applicants. To receive an MBBS degree, applicants must follow the different strategies with a thorough understanding from which they must then achieve university admissions. Entrance exams: The most common method for approving candidates is a medical entrance exam used by colleges and universities. Aspiring MBBS students sit for different entrance exams to earn a Bachelor of Medicine and a Bachelor of Surgery (BMBS or MBBS) degree. The results obtained in these exams allow the students to apply to high ranking universities offering such degrees.
Merit-based: There are colleges and universities in these courses which offer candidates admissions based on the marks achieved in 10 + 2. The eligibility criteria are based on competencies gained in 10 + 2. These colleges often take students using their cut off lists. But the number of these colleges is very less in numbers and the medical entrance exam is a must for this particular degree.

What are the career options after MBBS?
During one year of MBBS internship, students can work with hospitals and healthcare centres as consultants, physicians and medical assistants in critical care units. They can also work in health campaigns organised by the government and create awareness among the general public about diseases, medicines, health, and fitness through conferences.
Upon completion of the MBBS internship, the students can get themselves registered as doctors with the Medical Council of India (MCI). They can either apply for a post graduate degree in medical science i.e. MD/MS or continue working in the health sector as qualified doctors.
While pursuing further education in medical science, MBBS degree holders can also associate with pharmaceuticals as research associates. Moreover, the option of taking the Combined Medical Services Examination is also open for MBBS graduates. Postgraduate (MD/MS) Admission procedure
Eligibility Criteria
Candidates in possession of the MBBS degree or Provisional MBBS Pass Certificate recognized as per the provisions of the NMC Act, 2019 and the repealed Indian Medical Council Act 1956 and possessing permanent or provisional registration certificate of MBBS qualification issued by the NMC/ the erstwhile Medical Council of India or State Medical Council and have completed one year of internship or are likely to complete the internship on or before the prescribed cut off for a particular admission session, and are eligible in NEET PG conducted by National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS).
Selection of Candidates
The Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA) of the Government of Karnataka shall conduct the centralized counselling for PG courses (Medical MD/MS), and seats are allotted by merit selection which is based on the National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test Post Graduate (NEET PG) conducted by National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS).

Period of Training
The period of training for the award of various postgraduate degrees or diplomas shall be as follows:
1)Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) / Master of Surgery (M.S.): The period of training for obtaining these degrees shall be three completed years, including the period of examination.
2)Provided that in the case of students having a recognized two year postgraduate diploma course in the same subject, the period of training, including the period of examination, shall be two years.
