ADMINISTRATIVE / REGULATORY LAW

Joe Fried is not your typical attorney. Based out of Atlanta, he has built a national reputation as an incredible lawyer who gets tremendous results for his clients, and also as someone who selflessly helps other lawyers get the best results possible for their clients. Joe has the unique ability to see into a complex case, pull out the compelling story, and then communicate that story in a simple way that screams out for justice. “My job is to make each case simple and compelling,” Fried asserts. “It all starts with understanding people,” Fried says, “and understanding what motivates them to care.” Fried’s broad education and unique background give him the edge there. He is a former police officer who spent 20 years as a part-time judge, and his education includes physics and accident reconstruction as well as psychology, psychodrama, neurolinguistics, and storytelling. Fried has drawn on his deep well of knowledge and personal experience to create an innovative professional philosophy and approach he says has been key to his success as a plaintiff’s attorney. “First, we make a commitment to be 100% credible.” Fried admits this is not always easy to do, but he feels it is imperative. “Lawsuits are a battle of credibility,” Fried proclaims, “and the side with the credibility at the end wins.” When asked how he deals with negative facts or problems, Fried replies ““I always start with this question: How can the defense be 100% right, and we still win?” This adage isn’t empty rhetoric, nor is it a boast. Rather, Fried employs it in his practice to inspire himself and his team to engage in “outsidethe-box” problem-solving. “We give up our credibility if we fight negative facts,” Fried says. “If I can figure out a compelling reason that we should win, even if the negative fact is true, I can embrace that fact instead of fighting it.” The key, according to Fried, is figuring out why each juror should care about the case. “We win when the case is about something more important than the negative fact,” Fried explains. He and his team spend a lot of time focusing on why every juror, no matter who they are, should care about the case and how a verdict in Fried’s favor serves the greater good. “Until I have that figured out,” Fried says, “I am not ready to try the case.” Fried is a founding member of both the Truck Accident Attorneys Roundtable and the Academy of Truck Accident Attorneys and is chair-elect of the Trucking Litigation Group of the American Association for Justice. In addition, Fried is a long standing member of the faculty of the famed Gerry Spence Trial Lawyers College. Because of his unique background and fantastic results, Fried is frequently associated by other attorneys around the country to help in the preparation and trial of their cases.
