t Nathans & Biddle LLP, partners Larry Nathans, Robert Biddle, and Booth Ripke have become well recognized throughout Baltimore, Maryland, and Washington, D.C. for their effective defense of white-collar criminal matters. “The three of us have been practicing together for a long time, and because we all have extensive experience in federal and state courts, we’ve been able to take on cases in federal courts beyond Maryland as well,” notes Nathans, who is currently handling matters in Hawaii and Florida. Nathans began his career as a chief assistant federal defender, and he has since garnered a reputation as one of Maryland’s leading criminal defense attorneys. With 32 years of experience, Nathans is a recognized authority on federal sentencing, and he has significant expertise in cases involving public corruption, health care fraud, mortgage fraud, and environmental

charges. In addition to being included in The Best Lawyers in America and named as a Best Lawyers’ 2015 Baltimore Lawyer of the Year, Nathans is past chair of the American Bar Association’s White Collar Subcommittee on Federal Sentencing, past vice chair of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers’ Sentencing and Post Conviction Committee, and past president of the Maryland Criminal Defense Attorneys’ Association. Biddle, meanwhile, brings 27 years of experience to his practice, where he represents clients in white-collar investigations, federal forfeitures, trials, appeals, and post-conviction proceedings. Biddle previously chaired the American Bar Association’s Subcommittee on Forfeiture, and before entering private practice, he served as an assistant U.S. attorney and a federal law clerk.

Ripke also served as a federal law clerk, and he now has more than 15 years of experience as a criminal defense litigator. Ripke has successfully defended everything from major federal felonies to state court misdemeanors; recently, his advocacy was critical in winning the release of Walter Lomax, who had been wrongly imprisoned for 39 years. “Over the years we’ve helped our clients overcome their legal challenges, and we’re proud that our reputation is for not only winning cases, but doing so ethically and with a strong sense of commitment to our clients,” Nathans says.
