How to Use a Compound Bow Properly?

The compound bow is a modern archery implement that uses cams or twin cams to hold the limbs of the bow out at a constant angle. This allows for much greater speed on the release of the string for more power and accuracy. The limbs are either made from laminated wood, horn, and sinew, or dried animal tendon.

When the string is released from the fingers, it pushes one side of the bow away and brings the other side in so it can flex more before coming to full draw again. These bows can be considered "hybrid" bows because they use the design and power of a bow recurve but with the convenience of a traditional bow. This bow has certain advantages that an archer must consider to get the most benefit from it, such as hunting efficiency, noise, and time.

Construction of A Compound Bow

The most common type of compound bow is made out of laminated wood, sinew, and horn. The limbs are composed of a sinew core that connects to an outer sheath or sleeve. In all these components, the grain is destroyed to make them rigid. The core is usually stronger than the sleeve, so the sleeve is made with a Y shape so

that it can flex along its length and return to its original shape. The two layers are then laminated together.

The earliest bows were made by native tribes in Guatemala around the year 7000 B.C. and were made of stone, stone age metal, and wood. As metal became more available, these bows were created with metal recurves, which allowed them to be drawn back farther than wooden bows.

The invention of these bows and their eventual spread to other parts of the world has been linked to an increase in archaeological sites that have yielded flint arrowheads, scrapers, and other artifacts related to hunting. The materials used in bow construction also changed around this time. Instead of antlers or bones, the bows became more commonly made out of wood or animal bones.

The first recorded use of this bow was in China during the Zhou period. After that, they were brought into Europe by Mongolian invaders and eventually brought back to North America by colonists from Europe from around 1725-1775 A.D.

Method of Using A Compound Bow

A compound bow does not cock itself, meaning you will have to do this yourself. As with any other type of archery equipment, precision, and strength are important components so it's best to follow the instructions from the manufacturer in terms of size and weight.

Nock an arrow. It is imperative that when you are using a compound bow your arrows are nocked in the arrow rest (the notch between the two quiver fingers). Draw your arrow back until you reach your desired draw weight - usually between 15lbs-60lbs depending on personal preference and physical strength - but always at least around 30lbs.

These bows are capable of firing arrows at incredibly high speeds. You must practice safety when going shooting. Always make sure that the bow is always pointed away from people and animals, including yourself, and use a string stop to

ensure the string does not hit your forearm on release. Avoid shooting in wet conditions, as it can cause the bowstring to stretch, which impairs its efficiency and may change the accuracy of your shots.

Make sure the arrow is nocked using draw weights between 15-60lbs depending on personal preference and physical strength but at least 30lbs. Draw your bow back until you reach your desired draw weight, but it normally takes about 30 lbs for a 180lb person. Release the string with an audible voice command such as, "Pull".

In addition to a voice command, a finger release or mechanical release is used to hold the draw on the string and release it at the right time. An arrow is shot once the bow is drawn back. The arrow flies forward after release. Practice makes perfect. A compound bow has many adjustments that can be changed to match personal style and comfort level. It's important to practice getting familiar with these adjustments as they all affect one another in a compound bow.

Benefits of A Compound Bow:

We all know that bows and arrows have been used for centuries as hunting tools, but today the compound bow has also become popular for home use. If you're not familiar with them, here’s what you need to know: This bow uses cams or pulleys to hold the string at the right angle (known as “drawn-back”).

The cams rotate wraparound cables or strings so they slowly move back in tension (to draw the arrow back), which makes it easier to hold with less professional strength. They are easier than recurve bows because they allow you to work with your muscles, not against them.
