Introduction to Postgraduate Teacher Apprenticeship (PGTA) –
Primary Specialism
The Postgraduate Teacher Apprenticeship offers a fee-free, salaried route into teaching. During the apprenticeship, student teachers will be employed by a school and receive a salary on the Unqualified Teacher Pay scale (UNQ1).
Successful completion of this programme will award Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a Level 6 Teacher Apprenticeship Qualification, which will qualify graduates to teach in all schools in England.
Student teachers choose from one of two curriculum stages, both full time.
• Early Years and Key Stage One (3-7 years). Student teachers will experience delivering an EYFS and Key Stage One curriculum across two schools.
• Key Stages One & Two (5-11 years). Student teachers will experience delivering a Key Stage One and Key Stage Two curriculum across two schools.

We envision our student teachers gaining Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) with us before going on to complete the Early Career Teacher (ECT) programme to build a solid foundational understanding of pedagogy and teaching best practice.
As they progress in their careers, they might choose to specialise in a specific area of teaching and complete one of our Specialist NPQs. Should they develop ambitions to join their school SLT or become a headteacher, we could support them with a Leadership NPQ.
This end-to-end career support for teachers is known as the Golden Thread and Best Practice Network is thrilled to be one of the first providers to be approved by the Department for Education to offer this whole broad suite of training.
