Voluntary Organisations

Voluntary Organisations It is common known that "voluntary organisations work for the benefit of the community, not to make a profit or to meet any statutory obligation. They do this by acting as advocates and delivering services. They often involve sections of society whose needs are not met by the private or public sector. Most voluntary organisations are working to promote equality of opportunity in some way" (National Council for voluntary Organisations, 1990, p: 1) "Voluntary ought to mean simply some activity or undertaking, offered in an open and generous spirit and given freely without any hint of coercion" (Heginbothman, 1990, p: 3) Barkhill...show more content...

If it happens something emergency or an accident they might ask to volunteers for help. Some who came as volunteers find the work that is being done quite difficult, and that it does not suits them, so they quit. The volunteers that remain are not too many and even these they attend the club only one or two days per week. In addition they may not be trained properly and fact that they are not paid makes it more difficult for them to come in the club. It did not ask cares of the centres users to volunteer, because for careers who use the service it's a relief to have their relative as an opportunity for getting out or for going shopping so its unrealistic to ask a carer to come in as a volunteer. What about training if volunteers? However, both staff and the volunteers need training for offering their services. The training that is being done is not enough and the fact that both staff and volunteers are combined to do a training programme is not right, as the responsibilities of the volunteers are not exactly the same with the staff responsibilities. Furthermore, efforts for the use of employment training proved to be unsuccessful, as the employment trainees were unreliable and lasted only for a small period of time. More

The Importance Of Volunteer Work

One of the best feelings in the world, is knowing that you have made an impact in someone's life. Volunteer work is one of my favorite things to pass the time. I love seeing the warm smiles on others faces. I work with youth, the elderly, animal shelters, and cleaning up parks. I thoroughly enjoy working with kids. Getting to play with them, spend time with them, and mentor to them fills me with ecstatic joy. I have volunteered with kids who have special needs, orphans, and children with hearing loss, I have also been a coach with flag football. Three years ago, I volunteered at my church with a program called Revive. I worked with a wide variety of special needs kids in this program. Mainly kids with down syndrome. With many of them I had to speak much slower than I usually would. And often times, I had to repeat myself many times. I had to learn that developing the skills needed to work with these kids was not a one time deposit that would cover you for the rest of your life. My main goal with these kids was to make an impact on their life. In order to do this, you have to learn the child's prefered way of communication. Some liked talking, some liked to draw pictures, and some liked to simply just show you what they wanted. Working with these kids required extreme patience, a patience that will become easier to develop in life and ultimately in my career as an attorney. I mentioned it before, mentoring to kids really inspires me. I love being able

Looking at the first dilemma, I would present the volunteer opportunity to employees as a way to help give back to the community they work in. I would also try to approach union leadership to see if they wanted to collaborate with the company on the volunteer opportunity. If there was a lot of negative feedback about volunteering their personal time I would allow any one that volunteered the day off with pay to work at the retirement home. This would allow the company to say the employees volunteered their time and care about their social responsibility. A drawback to this plan may be a delay to work that had been going on at the plant due to the loss of a work day.

In order to create balance, I had to cut down on my involvements. Most people who have never been a stay at home mom, underestimate the vocation and think she has all the time in the world. I used to be one of those people! However, I never remain idle and like to be productive. A major downfall is that I struggle with saying "no," which usually results in taking on too many responsibilities. I have learned to be assertive, set boundaries, and prioritize. What are some behaviors that could help prevent burnout? Having a vision for your life, settings goals, knowing your limits, and recognizing when you need help can aid in avoiding burnout. Boundaries help to maintain our energy levels by protecting us from taking on more than we can handle. Would you consider volunteering a passion? Will you consider volunteering more if you knew it was for your grade? "One very specific reason to tie volunteer work to education is that teen volunteers are more likely to succeed academically than teens who don't volunteer" (Paragraph 5). To help a teen to be good for society, schools should makevolunteering mandatory. Mandatory volunteering is seen as a good thing for teens because theyВґre helping the community. However, volunteering is when you decide to do something good to help someone out of the kindness of your heart but most teens don't want to and don't even think about it. When it comes to mandatory volunteering for teenagers, the argument goes for volunteering the Point article, "Give Teens Some Work to Do! It's Good for Them and Everyone Else" by the Studysync Curriculum because of its effective use of research and quoting professional organizations.

The article "Give Teens Some Work to Do! It's Good for Them and Everyone Else" by the Studysync Curriculum is the most convincing because it uses the argumentative strategies: effective research and quoting professional organizations. Firstly, an example of a strategy that makes this article more convincing us the effective research the article provides. " Finally, the United Way says that volunteering improves people's health and helps to make a difference in someone's life" (Paragraph 4). In other words, it is better if the volunteer hours are part of teens school curriculum. This makes a convincing argument because it states the research they found and also includes a professional organization which proves someone professional proved it . This helps to make the argument convincing because most people will rely on professional statements and if they are proven by someone that did the research and studies it which means they know a lot about that.Additionally, another strategy that makes this article persuasive is the article quoting professional organizations. Personal Statement : Volunteer Work

"Volunteers are not paid; not because they are worthless, but because they are priceless."– Sherry Anderson (Volunteering Quotes: Finest Quotes). On average, when people think about community service, they assume that volunteering is just 'hours we need to be able to graduate' and that is it. Community service is more than just hours; community service is based on the acts performed by someone with the purpose of helping or bringing benefits to his or her community. People frequently compare community service as a punishment since it is often offered to small–time offenders as an alternative to fines or jail time. However, community service is the vital force to many communities since they depend on the service made by the volunteers...show more content...

Volunteering in your community helps solve many dilemmas in your community that descend through the eyes of government and social agencies (Everything you ever wanted to know about volunteering). Discussing about volunteering to teenagers should be the first step for a better life, since teenagers are the future of tomorrow and they will leave a mark from yesterday. Volunteering has been such an important matter, that schools in many countries around the world established that 12th grade students will need certain hours of community service in order to graduate. But the frequent answers all the schools are getting are "Why do I need to volunteer? I have better things to do!" What people are forgetting is that each one of them is part of a community, a community that is not perfect and that the government sometimes forgets about their problems or needs, because obviously the government needs to take care of other things that require more attention. People are not only helping others, they are also helping themselves (Volunteering). Volunteering is not a new subject now, but people did not perceive it before because as time goes by, volunteering is becoming more and more popular since each year more people volunteer. Volunteering began around the early 19th century since America was experimenting with the Great Awakening. world outside school, sports, and their home lives, making it a chance to learn some practical skills as well. If there is a valid criticism, Brown observes, it is that many children do not have their parent's support to find rewarding and worthwhile volunteer positions. Some kids, no doubt, consider it just another high school hassle, like Shakespeare or physics. Perhaps the volunteer industry itself should put more effort into making choices more intuitive and easier to attain for students if there is a concern about wooing future volunteers. Service, although already an integral and practiced part of today's society, making it mandatory would have a positive impact by ensuring its continuance. According to the Corporation for National and Community Service, a federal agency and the nation's largest grant maker for volunteering, last year in America there were 62.6 million volunteers, donating 7.8 billion hours of time at an estimated monetary value of $184 Billion dollars. Imagine the impact it could have if every single American were putting in hours of service. The potential for a grander impact goes up exponentially. Some research indicates that voluntary service is in decline. In fact, according to Dawn C. Carr with Psychology Today, "The Bureau of Labor Statistics released the 2013 volunteering rates for the United States, showing a decline of 25.4 percent, the lowest rate since the survey was first administered in 2002." This is alarming considering how impactful

Benefits Of Voluntary Work

Albert Schweitzer once said, "Success is not the key to happiness. Happiness is the key to success." Voluntary work is work that is done by choice, but the title "voluntary" does not always make sense because sometimes voluntary work needs to be done which can be frustrating at times. For example, some schools require that students do a number of hours before they are allowed to graduate. That does not sound voluntary, does it? Does that emphasize the fact the happiness needs to be present to succeed? Benefits of volunteer work include being qualified for more scholarships, being a role model to others, and gaining more experience in certain fields. One of the advantages of volunteer work is that it leads to scholarships, which in turn helps people get into desired colleges. Whenever a person does something to help the community like volunteer work, they get rewarded by being able to apply for more scholarships online. Scholarships give money to help pay for college materials, such as books, food, and rent at a dorm. Furthermore, scholarships will not only help pay for college materials but also the college classes themselves. Achievements people make such as being in a club, or winning a medal in an extracurricular activity can also go towards applying for more scholarships, which means you pay less for doing more activities. It is someone being paid to be an overachiever. Being a role model for others is another advantage of volunteer work, which can

Cure implies a successful outcome and the eradication of disease from the body.Healing on the other hand is born out of self discovery and examination. In the field of psychology, the functional approach to understanding altruism is the predominant one. Central to this approach is that people engage in various activities for purposeful, goal–oriented reasons (Fletcher and Major 2004:110). Related to the functional approach is the Volunteer Functions Inventory, created by Clary et al. (1998), which is based on the functional approach to understanding altruism. A functional perspective towards motivations to volunteer is chiefly concerned with the "why" of volunteerism (Whitt 2006:10). Understanding these reasons for volunteering, is important and could give us concrete answers as to why people would participate in long–term volunteering. The issue of sufficient support networks for people in need is very important. It has a very crucial role to play in the well–being of people. We all need support when we are going through difficult times and knowing that there is someone there for you, someone who cares, can make all the difference in the world. RESEARCH

This research is being conducted to investigate volunteer motivation, satisfactions and dissatisfactions. As is stated by Becsi et al (2008), much of the literature in the social sciences focuses on predicting volunteering behaviour with underlying theories of resources availability.
