From ponies and pizza to international showjumping competitor.
Our very own Tess Musgrave who you may know from her hospitality skills at the Bethanga Hotel, headed off on May 23rd to compete in an international showjumping competition in Hangzhou in China. Tess is part of a 4person team with their coach who will be representing Australia against teams from China and New Zealand.
Tess is in year 11 at Victory Lutheran College in Wodonga and has lived with her family in the Bethanga area for 11 years. Tess’ application to be included in the team for the Pony Club Australia International China Exchange was sent in on the quiet. Her application was accepted and she received the email on the way home on the school bus. After telling her parents, a whirlwind of activity started with travel to Canberra to get hold of an express passport and then to Melbourne for a visa to enter China.
She will be riding an unknown horse with only a couple of days to work with it before competition but she is not fazed, having ridden many different horses over the years. She and her horse will be wearing the green and
gold and she is taking her favourite
Tess is also excited to experience China and travel this being her first overseas trip.
Tess is a member of the Wirlinga Pony Club and supported by her “non-horsey” parents, has been riding since she was six. She has worked hard at lessons, participating in camp drafts and competing in state level show jumping competitions. Riding in all events, her favourites are eventing and show jumping.
Her current 10-year-old horse Charlie has been her mount for four years and as she steps up in competition, she has a new horse in training - Stewie. Tess will soon need to choose between eventing and jumping and hopefully Stewie will help her toward her goal of riding for Australia in the Brisbane Olympics.
We wish Tess all the very best and will catch up with her on her return on June 4th

The ‘3 Cemeteries’ project, which included Bethanga, Granya and Talgarno Cemeteries, have conducted their ‘Honouring lives, celebrating memories, our history lives here’ events.
The Bethanga event at the Bethanga Cemetery was held from 4.00 pm on the evening of a glorious sunset and as the sun went behind the hills a talented lone piper played to a reflective crowd who had enjoyed a guided tour of the cemetery. This was followed by a delicious meal served by the Bethanga Cemetery Trust and many community members.
The Granya event, held at the Granya Cemetery, from 12.00 noon on a Sunday was another successful and inspiring event. Guests were given time to walk around the neat and attractive cemetery and then listen to family members speak of their forbears. Guests then walked to the Catholic section of the cemetery. The Granya Cemetery Trust and Granya Hall committee hosted a luncheon in the newly rejuvenated Granya Hall following the cemetery walk.
The third event was recently held on a Sunday at Talgarno Cemetery from 2.00 pm. The event included a welcome, guided tour of the cemetery and a Devonshire afternoon tea. Guests enjoyed the beautiful autumnal day wandering through the cemetery, meeting neighbours and making new associations whilst enjoying a cup of tea or coffee and scones. The welcome included an invitation to guests, who may be interested, to join the ‘Cemetery
Trust’ or ‘The Friends of the Talgarno Cemetery’ group.
At each of the cemetery events many family members shared stories of their ancestors. Each event was considered to be a great success and demonstrated the trust members of each cemetery are committed to ensuring the cemetery is maintained to the standard families and friends of the deceased are comforted by and proud of.
The ‘3 Cemeteries’ project of ‘Honouring lives, celebrating memories’ was supported by ‘Emergency Recovery Victoria’ and the ‘Berringa Peninsula Community Network’ whose financial and administrative support is appreciated.

On Friday 24 May the Bethanga Recreation Reserve hosted the district Department of Environment Energy Environment & Climate Action (DEECA) Volunteer Recognition Awards.
The Bethanga Recreation Reserve received this award for the extra efforts maintaining the Rec Reserve following the 2022 floods and the work carried out since to improve the Rec Reserve.
The other recipients were;
• Walwa Tourist Park Inc
• Butson Park Reserve Com (Yackandandah)
• Allans Flat Recreation Reserve Com
• Eskdale Caravan and Water Reserve Com
• Gundowring Recreation and Hall Com
David Elder also received a 'Years of Service" award for his dedication to the Bethanga Recreation Reserve for over 15 years of service.
Friday, 3rd May saw the Bethanga hall tables spread with several activities and by the end of the day, colourful bunting had been sewn and looped around the entrance, along the eastern garden area and beyond! It looked very festive, drawing attention and comments from some passers-by.
Kurt Saggers, owner of ‘The Cat’s Pyjamas’ had organised a free day for local families to participate in and enjoy. It was part of a series of similar events held in Corryong, Mitta Valley/Dartmouth and Tallangatta and supported by Towong Shire Council as part of the bushfire recovery program. Aiming to inject the arts into local communities, foster engagement, build resilience and creative energy. The sessions have been very well received. Even though the funding has run out, it is hoped that these days have inspired the participating communities to create and develop future events. Kurt is keen to support our community in this endeavour. He is passionate about creativity, recycling and providing for a range of interests and abilities and has run various sessions in the area, including at Hyphen, Wodonga and Gardenesque, Albury.
Each group has worked on making colourful bunting for their own community’s use. Bethanga locals Angela, Felicity and Kate helped Kurt sew 200 metres (4 lots of 50m to make it manageable!) on the day – a wonderful effort! Bead jewellery making, cardboard construction, Lego building and Mr Potato Head for the very young, kept everyone busy. Locals, a happy group of ‘home schoolers’ and the Bethanga Primary children all enjoyed participating throughout the day. Morning tea, fruit snacks and a light evening meal was provided.
Di SinglineThe morning was crisp and sunny for the annual ANZAC Day service at Bethanga, with a large crowd in attendance.
MC Bob Singline welcomed everyone and introduced Peter Klein, who performed Eric Bogle’s ‘The Band Played Waltzing Matilda’ with emotion. Following the Catafalque Party’s formation at the memorial cairn, a beautiful array of wreaths were laid, representing 12 Bethanga, Bellbridge and Talgarno groups.
Alison Hovar voice in her unaccompanied rendition of was moving and was followed by Mrs Betty Price prayer.
Major John Lodge, Officer Commanding Careers and Advanced Training Wing at Bandiana was the guest speaker. He named many of the area’s local soldiers who, gave their all in the past and detailed their

The Peninsula Seasonal Market Committee has decided to reduce the frequency of the market to an annual event. This change aims to maintain the market's integrity by maximising attendance while showcasing local vendors who create handmade and locally produced goods. The 2024 market is scheduled for December 8th at Bellbridge.

The Bethanga Golf Club Anzac Day celebration commenced with three Committee members laying a wreath at the Bethanga Memorial Hall ceremony. The Club was then proud to host over 100 people at their first Anzac Day event. As part of paying respects to all past and present serving men and women, the Club displayed memorabilia shared by members. The golf teed off at 10:30 am, with members and visitors from as far as Townsville invited to form teams for 9 holes of “Texas Ambrose”. This was followed by a BBQ lunch with Back Porch Fridaze providing their wonderful music to keep the crowd singing and entertained. It was a great afternoon with raffles, the footy and a lot of laughter with old friends, new friends and family, continuing on into the evening around the fire.
The day was a great success and the Golf Club Committee would like to thank everyone for their support and participation.
The Three Halls Working Group (THWG) project, funded by the ‘Black Summer Bushfire Grants Funding Program’ of rejuvenating the Bethanga, Granya and Talgarno Halls, has nearly reached completion after three years of hard work.
The commitment and collaboration by Partnear, as Project Manager; TVN-ON Country, as principal Contractor; Bethanga Landcare; Berringa Peninsula Community Network; Landcare Victoria Incorporated the individual hall committee members; and the THWG has meant the project has been undertaken to a very high standard.
There have been numerous generous individual contributions and wonderful teamwork that has taken this project to its near completion.
The THWG has to date met on 28 occasions to work this project and I thank them for their work and dedication. We still have the final milestones to be completed, including the placement of a plaque to be erected in each hall to recognize the commitments of the participating groups.
The Project has been very effective in bringing the Berringa Peninsula community together in rejuvenating the Bethanga, Granya and Talgarno Halls. to repair and maintain them, and to cope with emergency situations.
All halls now have good heating and cooling, adequate water supplies and good lighting. Two of the external area of the halls were painted, one now has a commercial kitchen and two have back up solar battery supplies. All three halls have an external electrical plug for a generator in the case of extended power outage
during an emergency.
The three halls are now comfortable places for community events and will continue to be community assets for many years.
There have been many great contributions from our community in making this happen. A very special thanks to all those individuals but also from others outside the community such as Tracey Farrant, Tony Thompson (Bushfire Recovery Victoria, now Emergency Response Victoria) Katrina Tehan (grant applicant writer) and local groups including Berringa Peninsula Community Network, Bethanga Landcare Group and Landcare Victoria Inc. (Grant auspice).
One of our Committee members has recently resigned owing to commitments elsewhere and that creates an opportunity for someone to join us in helping guide the operation of the Talgarno Recreation Reserve. We are very conscious that we have very few younger people on the Committee and we want to do something about that as part of succession planning. We thought it might be helpful to provide some background to the ‘job’ so that potential applicants know more about it.
The Committee of nine people is appointed by the Minister representing the Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action (DEECA) for a three year term ending June 2025. Its purpose is to ensure that the Talgarno Recreation Reserve is managed for the benefit of the public including the care and operation of the Talgarno Hall. So the Committee is not just dealing with the hall but with everything on the reserve. The tennis club has its own management but the land it is located on and any works on the courts comes under the control of the Committee. Similarly, the CFA has a licence from DEECA to operate the fire shed. The playground equipment is owned by the Towong Shire but there will soon be a formal User Agreement with the Committee/DEECA setting out the responsibilities of each party. If there is to be a public toilet on the reserve then another User Agreement will be developed with the Shire setting out responsibilities. And the recently re-named Talgarno Community Social Club has a licence with DEECA to use the BBQ shelter for its various functions.
• Food and Garden Organic s bin will be collected weekly. Rural properties can opt out.
• General Waste (red lid) and Recyclables (yellow lid) will be collected fortnightly on alternate weeks
• Berringa Peninsula to Granya Gap Road garbage collection Fridays starting 7 June with general waste bin
• Granya collection Thursdays starting 6 June with recyclables bin
• Glass preferably will be deposited at resource recovery centres, 10c deposit providers or the recycling shed at Talgarno Gap Road, Talgarno or Granya recreation reserve. Glass containers can still be placed in the recyclable bin
• There is an opportunity for an enterprising group/s to raise funds from arranging collection of 10c deposit containers particularly in Bellbridge and Bethanga.

The Committee tries hard to work on behalf of the Talgarno community in everything that it does, so its members must understand and represent the community. We hold about 5 or 6 meetings each year depending on whether there are issues that need to be dealt with urgently. The meetings are generally around two hours and are usually held on Sundays. Members are expected to attend 75% of all meetings and to contribute their views and ideas focussed on the management of the Reserve for the benefit of the public.
As you will be aware there has been a lot going on at the Reserve in recent times, all of which have been the result of community inputs and the work of the Committee. They include the Bush Dance; Trivia Night; Peninsula Market; Hall rejuvenation project; BBQ Shelter, tennis court renovation; installation of the ‘Green Room’ storage facility at the back of the BBQ shelter; and landscaping of the playground and hall surrounds.
If you would like to discuss any aspect of the Committee or have any comment or question for the Recreation Reserve Committee, please contact me (0419 609 042) or our Secretary, Mari Jones (0418 693 535)

The Tallangatta and Corryong Family Violence Prevention Committees have combined to form one group which meets every 6 weeks. Committee members include representatives from Tallangatta Health, Corryong Health, Neighbourhood House, Victoria Police, specialist family violence services such as Centre Against Violence, Upper Murray Family Care, Junction Support Services and Hume Riverina Legal Service.
The group alternates between Corryong and Tallangatta and works collaboratively towards creating a community where all individuals feel safe, respected, empowered and live a life free from violence.
Tallangatta Health Service has produced fridge magnets for use within our community. These were made possible through the Better at Home project, and were created through consumer input, including that of our local Ambulance Victoria.
The magnet is designed to be placed on a person’s fridge, and has an area where their contact details can be recorded to be accessed in case of emergency. If an ambulance is attending, details of the person and their
contact will be easily visible.

The Bethanga Annual Tournament is a North East District Golf Association (NEGDA) event, held at Bethanga in May every year. Whilst it is on the NEGDA calendar as a men’s event, this year at Bethanga we made the call to open the invitation to ladies to participate, playing alongside the men, in their own Stableford competition.
Twenty-four men from Yarrawonga, Albury, Beechworth, Bethanga, Wodonga, Thurgoona clubs played, and four ladies representing the Bethanga and District Golf Club.
The event started in cool conditions, but as the day progressed, all were bathed in wonderful autumn sunshine. The Golf Club Committee once again ensured great food, excellent awards and a friendly and welcoming sporting environment. All the participants reported a great day.

Thank you to Greg Hayes who has agreed to regularly contribute weather related articles for Berringa Community News readers.
BOM expected below average rainfall over autumn, but it was very much drier than average.
The historical median rainfall for Autumn (MarchMay) is 126 mm. The actual rainfall (up to May 21) for Hume Reservoir was 59 mm or 37% of average and 47% of median. At “Carinya” we had 62 mm with only 2mm so far in May. Overall this dry autumn was not record breaking but if you look at May alone, you must go back to 1934 to find a drier one. It’s at the 5th decile for dryness meaning that 95% of all Mays were wetter than this one. It was also hotter than normal with the March mean daily temperature at Hunters Hill being the highest on record.
It has been frustrating to see rain falling elsewhere (particularly in the north) where the warm seas have generated moisture for what has been record falls over much of northern Australia and the east coast. Down south and particularly where we are there have been persistent high pressure systems which have blocked any moisture from reaching us. Whereas normally the belt of high pressure moves north in autumn allowing the rain associated with cold fronts to reach us, this year they have stayed south. To make matters worse the high pressure systems have been higher pressure than normal meaning that they are very slow moving.
The rolling 12- month rainfall to end May at “Carinya” of 543 mm is well below average (700 mm) and it is such a contrast to the wet years that we have enjoyed recently.
In a nutshell there is no clear signal about the prospects for rainfall over winter. The most likely situation is that rainfall will be about average but as you can see from the graph below there is an almost equal chance of any outcome. Unfortunately this is a difficult time of the year to forecast rainfall.
What makes it even harder for the forecasters is that they can’t rely on the past to forecast the future because never before have the oceans of the world been so warm and ocean temperatures drive rainfall distribution patterns. The ENSO is currently neutral but BOM have a La Niña watch in place meaning that it may develop in late winter.
Dale Grey, agronomist with Agriculture Victoria, reports that 8 of the models are expecting neutral conditions, 1 neutral drier and 3 drier. Jim de Hennin, Talgarno tells me his springs have started running so maybe that’s the most positive news yet. I’m expecting only average rainfall so I don’t think I will have much paddock feed for a while yet. I hope I’m wrong.
Greg HayesThe Bethanga Gymkhana and Family Fun Day was gifted a gorgeous sunny spring day this year and successfully planted hundreds of wide smiles on the faces of our Berringa Community.
The event's goal was to create yet another beautiful Easter Saturday for local families, filled with laughter and wonderful memories, and did not disappoint!
Over 1300 people visited the lush Bethanga Rec Reserve grounds and enjoyed the horse events, delicious food, fun family games and the always-exciting dog high jump. Is there anything more adorable than seeing a little child running along with an egg on their spoon? We think not!
The Bethanga Gymkhana Gift was an exciting and tight race this year as our champions were supported enthusiastically by the home crowd.
As usual, the Easter Bunny Chase was an absolute delight! The Easter Bunny let us know that he was pleased and relieved to have made it through relatively unscathed, and with both his ears still attached to his head at the end of the day!
For the first time this year, our horse competitors were able to enter their showjumping classes online. The success of this entry method has inspired us to provide an online entry method for a few more horse events next year. Horse riders stay tuned.
With the generous support of many local individuals and businesses, we were able to provide wonderful prizes for
all our competitors; young and old, big and small, human and animal! Please do your best to support the local businesses whose logos were proudly displayed in the pavilion.
Our community event was also supported this year with a very generous grant from the Berringa Peninsula Community Network, for which we are thoroughly grateful. This support will undoubtedly allow us to continue and enhance the wonderful tradition of the Bethanga Family Fun Day in 2025.
We would like to thank our beautiful, fun-loving community for being a part of such a wholesome and memorable community event. Your enthusiastic participation is what makes the day so great.
A huge thank you goes out to all the volunteers who so generously gave their time and expertise to the event. We are already busy planning our next Family Fun Day for 2025 and we welcome any new volunteers who might like to dive in and squeeze the joy out of their next Easter Saturday.

The community of Talgarno came together for a night of fun and fundraising at the Talgarno Hall on Friday 24th May for a successful trivia night. The hall was buzzing with excitement as people of all ages joined in to test their knowledge and enjoy a night of laughs and good times.
The event was made even more enjoyable thanks to our wonderful host and trivia master Mel, whose wit and personality kept everyone entertained throughout the evening. It was clear that she put a lot of effort into creating a fun and engaging atmosphere for all the participants.
Thanks to the generosity of everyone who attended, we were able to raise over $1300, which will go towards upgrading our hall and recreation reserve facilities. This is a fantastic result and we are incredibly grateful for the support of our community.
A special thank you goes out to all the helpers who contributed to the success of the trivia night. From
setting up the event to sorting out prizes, the auction and assisting with the clean-up afterwards, their hard work and dedication did not go unnoticed.
We are already looking forward to our next trivia night and can't wait to see everyone there again. Keep an eye out for updates on when the next event will be taking
The Talgarno tennis courts are buzzing with excitement as they are being used for Net Set Go netball coaching this off-season. It's fantastic to see our courts being utilized for a new sport and giving children the opportunity to learn and develop their skills.
This term, 19 enthusiastic kids have taken to the court to learn the basics of netball through the Net Set Go program. Led by the dedicated coaching team of Laura, Jess, and Ruby, the children are getting the chance to hone their skills and build a strong foundation in the sport.
The transformation of the courts from tennis nets to netball rings has been a welcome change, and it's great
to see the community coming together to support and encourage the young athletes in their development.
The Net Set Go sessions take place every Monday afternoon this term, providing a fun and engaging opportunity for the kids to learn and grow in the sport of netball. A big thank you to Laura, Jess, and Ruby for their commitment and hard work in running these coaching sessions and making them a success.
It's wonderful to see the Talgarno tennis courts being used in the off-season for such a positive and engaging activity. Here's to many more successful Net Set Go terms at the Talgarno tennis courts!

If you thought CERT was looking brighter, you are right. Our car has been upgraded to a hybrid with a new very bright high visibility livery.
It is a public health service run out of Northern Health in Melbourne for non-life-threatening emergencies. These symptoms might be things like pain, vomiting, urinary infection and influenza.
It is open 24 hours a day with medical reviews offered between 8 am – 11:30 pm 7 days a week, offering full adult and paediatric services.
No referral is necessary. You can visit vved.org.au or scan the qr code
A defib has been installed at the Bethanga Golf Club to provide 24-hour community access. It is in a white cabinet next to the sliding door entry to the club rooms.
There are already 6 public access defibrillators available 24/7 on the Berringa Peninsula. They are all registered with 000 through Ambulance Victoria. In the event of a cardiac arrest, 000 operators will advise the caller of the location of the nearest available defibrillator.
Cardiac arrest happens when a person’s heart suddenly stops beating and stops pumping blood effectively around the body. It can happen to anyone, anytime, anywhere. Bystanders starting chest compressions or CPR and using an AED can save lives.
Anyone can save a life in three simple steps. Call, Push, Shock: Call Triple Zero (000), Push hard and fast on the middle of the chest, and Shock using an AED.
Defibrillators are available 24/7 in a white box on the front walls of:
• Bethanga General Store
• Bethanga Recreation Reserve pavilion
• Bellbridge Community Centre
• Bellbridge Foreshore Bus stop (near fish)
• Granya Hall
• Talgarno Hall
• Bethanga Golf Club

It may not officially be tennis season, but there is still plenty of action at the Talgarno Tennis Club every week.
Our Fast4 teams’ competition has been running every Tuesday night under lights, kindly organised by Brendan Pearson. Paul Hamman has been coordinating social hitting at 2pm every alternate Saturday afternoon. These events will probably run for as long as weather permits. And, as always, nets will remain up at the courts for the use of members and their guests when you get the urge.
On Monday afternoons throughout Term 2, 20 kids from Talgarno, Bethanga and Granya have been taking part in a ‘Net Set Go’ netball program from a grant received from Emergency Recovery Victoria and the Berringa Peninsula Community Network. Organised and coordinated by Laura Brain, and with coaching assistance from Jess Lieschke and Ruby Pearson, the program has been very successful and may continue into Term 3.
The netball program is a great initiative as the original concept of the tennis court upgrade was as a multi-use facility for the community’s benefit. All we need now is a rebuild of the damaged clubrooms – damaged during the court upgrades – to store equipment safely and facilitate even greater use of the recreation reserve.
Thanks again to our sponsors who provide wonderful support to the tennis club which in turn provides physical activity options to the local community - The Wool Press Granya, George Stahl Electrical, Bethanga General Store, Rural Asset Maintenance, Leischke Plumbing, Albury Sportspower, Johnsons MME, Cadmac, Bethanga Hotel and Monumental Ice Creamery.

As we can see, call outs are still continuing. The District is experiencing a very dry autumn period and this has left
the area very dry. Throughout District 24, there have been a number of fires caused by escaping burn offs. We have so far, not had the same level of medium to big fires, but it doesn’t mean we can be complacent. Until we get a decent amount of rain, the dry conditions will persist and the likelihood of fires occurring is higher than normal at this time of the year, especially compared to previous years.
We continually remind community members to be vigilant regarding fires and how prepared their properties are. The first place to start when preparing your property is to know your risk.
The days are getting cooler but, as mentioned, it is still dry. During the cooler periods, the risk changes from bush and grass fires to house fires, so it’s important to ensure that your home is safe.
• Check and clean your heater flue annually. Burning unseasoned wood produces more creosote build-up inside the flue. Eventually it will block the flue and/or catch fire.
• Inspect your electric blankets by looking and feeling for damage to the wires inside the blanket plus the power supply lead. Faulty electric blankets can start fires. It is also dangerous to leave electric blankets on when you are not using them.
• Check and clean dust and lint from your heater fan and clothes dryer.
• If you dry clothes in front of your heater keep them and any other flammable items, “A metre from the heater”.
• Install a 1kg Dry chemical fire extinguisher in your home. These cost around $20 from Bunnings and can save your home.
Let’s have a warm and safe winter
A reminder that the Brigade is continuing monthly testing of the Brigade’s siren. This is scheduled for the first Sunday of the month at 10:00 am.
The Brigade’s siren is used for alerting members of a call out and is used in conjunction with individual pagers and other alerting devices. The siren serves a secondary purpose in notifying the community when the Brigade has responded to a call out. Please rely on the Vic Emergency app and/or website for updated information. When testing, the siren will sound for no more than 10 seconds. For incidents, the siren will sound for 90 seconds.
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
The Brigade held it’s biannual elections on the 8th May 2024.

What’s been happening in the Talgarno CFA?
The Talgarno brigade has been busy this autumn with private burns which have escaped. We have supported the Granya and Bethanga Brigades to extinguish some private burns that were burning out of control. We turned out to one deliberately lit fire on Murray River Road at Vincent Reserve which burnt approximately 5 acres. Our brigade, with the support of the Bethanga and Bonegilla brigades conducted a fuel reduction burn at the Talgarno Cemetery, in preparation for their open day. Talgarno
CFA assisted Bonegilla with a fuel reduction burn, along the Murray Valley High, Huon. A training session was held for a running grass burn. We helped with the Bethanga Gymkhana, manning the BBQ, which was an incredibly successful day. Thank you to all members who donated their time to assist with this event.
The next generation roll out of Wildfire PPC is yet to occur for our brigade. This will occur soon.
The CFA will be replacing all radios, including mobiles, portables, bag radios and local bases. The new radios will have enhanced features and functionality. Our Toyota Ultra-light tanker will be sent away to be fitted with new foam burn over protection. This will improve the safety of our members on the fire ground.
The CFA and FRB are encouraging Victorians to install smoke alarms in all bedrooms and living areas as fires started in sleeping areas are most likely to lead to fatalities. With the cold weather approaching please ensure that your chimneys are cleaned, to prevent any chimney fires.
Our brigade is looking at increasing our fundraising. Our efforts in raising funds will go towards upgrading our facilities in our CFA station. Our first fundraising event will be a firewood cutting day, date TBA. The firewood cutting will be aimed at either a raffle or selling of the wood.
We are looking at many different opportunities for fundraising and we welcome any feedback or ideas to assist us with this.
Are you interested in becoming a CFA member or know some one who is? Contact our secretary Jess Lieschke at talgarnorfbsecretary@gmail.com or our Captain Michael Elliot 0407 201 169. Everyone is welcome.
The Talgarno Brigade will be holding their AGM and Elections on Thursday 13 June at the Fire Shed at 7 pm. All are welcome to attend
Michael Elliot, Captain, 0407 201 169 Jess Lieschke Secretary talgarnorfbsecretary@gmail.com

After a very long dry spell this autumn, we were lucky to see some rain at the end of the season for which we would all be thankful for.
The WCTLCG recently held its AGM with a return to office of Jim de Hennin as Chair, Hugh Dunchue Treasurer and Jess Furst as Secretary. Committee members are Julie Miller, Kyle Lieske, Michael Trewin, Ben Clifton and Trevor Hall.
It was an entertaining evening with a lovely BBQ dinner and guest presentation by Dr Raelene Kwong on biological controls.
As part of the M2M Group, some of our members also participated in a very informative Fungi Foray, including a field trip to identify the different types found locally. This was organised by our Landcare facilitator Simon Feillafe with fungi expert Dr Alison Pouliot.
The leaves are well and truly falling, giving the children at Bellbridge Early Learning Centre (BELYC) just one more thing to collect, paint and explore - but of course there’s so much more happening at BELYC!
There have been some big changes to the centre since the last edition of Berringa News, much of it coming in the form of four wonderful new staff members.
Molly is our new Educational Leader who will support continual improvement across the educational program and experiences delivered at the centre. Molly brings a fantastic, cheerful energy to the centre and the children are loving her.
Renee is our new teacher for the Three-Year-Old Kinder Program, bringing with her plenty of experience in delivering educational programs for three to five-year-old children. By the time you read this Renee will have already hit the ground running! We would also like to introduce Chloe. Chloe comes as a package deal with her gorgeous little son Mason, who has already settled into the Long Day Care (LDC) room perfectly. Chloe is continuing her Certificate III at BELYC through a Traineeship. With her easy-going, warm disposition, she is a fantastic addition to the centre and has been eagerly welcomed by the LDC children.
Last, but certainly not least, management of BELYC has now moved to Jason, whom you may know from Tallangatta Early Years Learning Centre. Jason has been with Tallangatta for a number of years and we welcome his experience with open arms. In the same vein, we say a temporary goodbye to Cassie, who has now left to have her very first baby. We wish her the best of luck as she begins the wild ride they call parenting! So what’s coming up, you ask? The biggest news in our calendar is the Little Kids Big Art Show.
Yes, it was such a success last year that we’re bringing it back in 2024 with gusto! Little Kids Big Art Show, with funding support from the Berringa Peninsula Community Network and Emergency Recovery Victoria, will be held on June 21st from 5.30 pm at the Hume Boat Club, Bellbridge. A free sausage sizzle and charcuterie platters are provided, but you’re welcome to BYO anything else you may need. Tickets are $5 and can be purchased at BELYC or at the door on the night. Please bring cash to buy your little one’s masterpieces on the night, as unfortunately, we won’t have Eftpos.
That’s all from BELYC for now, so please stay warm, dodge the nasty bugs and we hope to see you all at the Little Kids Big Art Show in June!
