Heartening Response to Defibrillator Appeal The response to the appeal for community funding to provide two public access defibrillators exceeded our expectations. The community raised $9261 enough to buy three defibrillators plus two alarmed cabinets.
We placed collection tins in the Bethanga and Bellbridge shops which raised $341 and $64 respectively. Thank you to those generous anonymous people who contributed.
It began with Les Gales request that the $595 donated to CERT in lieu of flowers after the sudden death of his wife Sharon be used to purchase a public access defibrillator for Bethanga. The CERT team and committee thought this was a wonderful idea but thought that Bellbridge also needed one. So the appeal was made through the last edition of the Berringa News.
The Peninsula Men’s Shed held a sausage sizzle at the Bethanga Hall where Peter Klein provided an evening of very entertaining music and poetry. The CERT team provided a demonstration of a defibrillator with the audience taking the opportunity to practice their CPR skills. The crowd was modest but the BBQ raised $308 and a further $391 was raised in donations. Peter Klein auctioned a first edition of his “Mudpoo” book for which Richard Wright paid $100 after very vigorous bidding against himself. We are exceedingly grateful to John Butko who lives in Bellbridge for his company, JC Butko Engineering, generously paying for one defibrillator, $2565. We also wish to thank Talgarno resident Kelly Gibbons from Wodonga Eyecare for her generous donation of $500.
Joan Elliot from Talgarno tries her hand at CPR watched by Jean -Gabriel Manguy, CERT team member at the Mens Shed sausage sizzle
Local clubs and groups also made generous donations, Lake Hume Soccer Club and Bethanga CFA $500 each, the Lake Hume boat club donated $1000 and also organized a $250 contribution from the Towong Council. The Rotary Club of Bellbridge Lake Hume contributed $1700 which was made up the required gap to buy the third defib and pay for two alarmed security cabinets. cont..d p2
