Published in 1973, Eighteen Small Prints is a portfolio of 18 prints in several medium, in editions of 100 (with 12 proof sets). It followed on from another portfolio of screenprints published the previous year by the Bernard Jacobson Gallery entitled 14 BIG Prints. At this time, a number of contemporary artists had been experimenting with the medium of screenprinting; the earlier portfolio, as its title suggests, was one of the first to exploit the medium’s ability to create prints on a larger scale. The story goes that it was Peter Blake who suggested to Bernard Jacobson that, as a riposte to 14 BIG Prints, he might ask artists to make prints on a very small scale, through a note left at the original gallery.

A Furnished Landscape 1974 Screenprint 7 colours Set of 25, Edition of 90 Published by Bernard Jacobson in 1974, A Furnished Landscape is a portfolio of 25 prints, including 3 woodcuts, 5 lithographs, 8 etchings and 9 screenprints. “This portfolio must be one of the most-all-embracing graphic explorations on a theme of landscape ever made by a single artist, for in addition to etching and screenprinting, Tillyer added both lithography and woodcut to his repertoire, thus embracing all four graphic tehcniques. [...] Part of the poetry of these 25 prints lies in appreciating the appropriateness with which a particular technique has been used to convey a specific experience: part of it is ambiguity and understatement by means of which the artist allows the spectator to indulge his own imaginative flight of fancy in interpreting the marks before him.” Pat Gilmour
