Infection. Post surgical infections are prevented by giving post operative antibiotics. Usually there are no serious infections of the scalp.

Swelling. Areas around the forehead and eyes may swell temporarily. It lasts for a few eyes. This is commonly seen. Keeping head elevated and cold compress reduces the swelling quickly.

Scarring. The wounds after transplant heal leaving minor scars. These scars are very small and remain hidden.

Numbness. This is present in most cases in the donor area and lasts for about 18 weeks.

Cysts. Small cluster of cysts can erupt and rarely it is seen in aggravated form.

They disappear in a few weeks.

Hiccups. This is rarely seen and resolves in a few weeks.

Most side effects resolve with time. Swelling of the face can be minimised with head elevation, cold compress, anti inflammatory drugs, steroids. Also one must avoid excessive physical activity and blood thinners for a week.
