State of the art-1:

Glass cube by Leonardo, from 3 Deluxe Transdisciplinary Approaches to Design p233

Having developed several visual concepts with temporary architectures. Leonardo Glass tube is the first permanent building we could implement by 3deluxe.We could say the Leonado Glass tube is the work of art as its concept combines interior, architecture, graphic design into a integrated aesthetic entity. The architecture discource has been advanced by efficient new design technology. The picture on the right is the result of interdusciplinary design. The design brings two media together ,they are digitally generated pixel imgaes and analogue photography .The result shows that the transparency has developed in both direction and it’s the complete of the visual and spacial art work.

The superimposed pilaster strips appear on the glass facade gives us the impression of outline of the grandiose structure inside. In order to make the texture of the concrete visible, the surface were treated with the hydrochloric acid. The design of the surrounding path and plant make the building and nature look as one entity. Again, the glass facade is the vital visible plane. It is not only work as the interface between the outside and inside, but also the way to heightened aesthetic appeal. One of 3 deluxe’s essential leitmotifs can be reinterpreted with this aspect. Glass cube ,3 Deluxe Transdisciplinary Approaches to Design p233

The interior structure consists of two elements:cube-like shell volume, a freeform positioned wall. The white whall encase the exhibition space while the hallway along glass facade. This arrangement is called “space within space” arrangement which meets the needs of artifically-lit product presentiation. Here, the art advance the architecture discource by paralleling the visual arts and interior space. Moreover, the technic such as parametric design and 3 deluxe are all contribute to the design outcome.

State of the art-2: Marques de Riscal Hotel,Spain

Gehry Hotel,Spot more cool stuff from http://travel.spotcoolstuff.com/spain/architecture-high-designhotel/gehry-marques-de-riscal

The Marques de Riscal Hotel was designed by Frank gehry. The intention of this design is to renovate the winery. From the exterior, it looks like a sculpture rather than a building. According to gehry, the titanium in pinks represent hues of riojia and the silver is imagined as the foil cover the cork. So the design of the building is the reflection of the wine color by developing the idea through the art media. If you know gehry well, a phenomenon of gerny’s work is “paper of architecture”. The form is not follow the function. Similarly here, the complex surface of the building sheathe in titanium steel. It looks as if the roof hang over the serious of block by wing connecting to it. The shape is irregular like the crinkled paper.

Roofing: Vertical bracing is raised as an angle from the ground to support the twisted distorted beam. This design of the roof structure will make the roof looks fluid. The way to achieve this was the parametric design.

Another point is, even though the appearence of the building looks random, however, the precise construction method need to be approached.

The photo on the left demonstrates the ideas between architecture and space. It looks as a flower or a enormous schulpture stands on the hill. In this case, it is hard to tell whether it’s architecture that satisfies the art or the other. The fact is this project is the demonstration of typical art which could communicate with nature and it begin and end with a style. Personal:

The collage is the result of my previous design. This is the glass hall which connects two seperate building. The front one is the concrete building and the other one is the timber building. The style of the building is changing when visitors walk through the hall. The changing effect are presented by using different materials. For the glass area, the room has been set with glass walll, glass floor. The 3-dimensional transparency space empasise on the art of visual effect .

This is the experiment with sunscreen and light. The sunscreen is made of mosaic glass and scissor cut paper. For this experiment, I consider more of the way to achieve visual effect such as create pattern , using reflection material. In oder to achieve the a outcome, I use the parametric method to further experiment the shape of the screen.

This is the drawing of the atrium. Compare with the building, the 2-dimensional drawing demonstrate the interior by using the color, shadow, curve line. It clarifies the space in the certain time and state. The drawing is the art media which could illustrate the special features and aesthetic effect of Architecture design.

Walt Disney Concert Hall,Modern British Architecture, http://brst440.commons.yale.edu/2007/07/12/

Walt Disney Concert Hall is designed by Frank Gehry . Gehry wants to create the building whose shape is “evocative of music”. The striped waves of the stainless steel exterior are the representation of the music staffs. Again, the design of this building is based on paper form which Gehry normally does. Computer model

The design of the Concert Hall can’t be separated with the computational design. On the left, it is the digital model of the building. As you can see, the result is a single , complete digital model contain all the necessary information . These information can be communicated , changed easily with the system controlled.

Qatar Education City Convention Centre is designed by Yamasaki, and it is located at Doha. Boasting iconic design and cutting edge facilities has made it become a unique building. “Sustainable, high-performance and environmentally conscious design is becoming a standard for our project”said by Yamasaki. According to the reading ,Architecture as a New Media, once the goal of the design has been established, the design will become more efficiency and purposeful.

Conceptual design of the design has developed with the incorporation of the large sidra tree roots , which enable to flourish the harsh environment of the desert. The tree is a symbol of growth and power, and it also represents the foundation of the Qatar which seeks to be “haven of learning of Qatar .”This dynamic and irregular curving shape stands out from the surface of the building. This success of this dynamic design is own to the innovation of the computational design. It is the computer program which help human present it graphically and numerically ,communicate with the design process and output the amazing ideas from human mind. The innovation of computational design challenged the traditional process and the assist the architecture achieving the better outcome as it could test and challenge more complex form for the design. Using shape design method which is Extended Evolutionary Structural Optimisation method, the enormous flux structure has been created, 250 metres long by 20 metres wide ,by 30 metres wide. The three-dimensional space occupy this structure optimally with the given condition, and the resulting structural shape manifests maximum mechanical efficiency with minimum use of materials. The digital modelling compose the design intension and process as a whole, with the consideration of work efficiency. The use of digital modelling and animation software opened up the spaces for the model to evolved. The shape and the form of the design are not generate in the conventional way, it generated with the parametric process within the system and then be clarified by animation presentation.

Issue-constrain: The architectural constraints during the evolution of the design were to keep the upper surface of the rooftop constantly flat and keep the span of supporting at 100 metres. Relate to -“Architecture as a New media ,
