CLEANING WITH WATER In the course of life each person develops his individual Body hygiene and skin care. This is culturally shaped, but ultimately it corresponds to their respective needs and preferences.

As long as people live self-determined, they will pursue them independently until old age. In case of diseases and especially when these are associated with bedriddenness, partial or total body care is a challenge for the nursing staff.

For affected patients, washing can be very incriminating, due to a sensitive intervention into the personal intimate area.

For the nursing staff in turn, washing in the bed is mainly time-consuming. Before execution of a conventional partial or full body wash, all necessary utensils must first be prepared: a bowl of warm water, soap, flannels, towels and lotion.

After the washing procedure, the drying of the patient with partially rough towels, as well as skin-lotioning takes place.

Skin cleansing The skin is the largest organ of the human body. It protects the body externally and internally, for example, against mechanical, chemical or physical influences.The cleansing of the skin serves the removal of water- and fat-soluble dirt particles. In addition to water, soaps, syndets or cleansing emulsions are used. This application does not only remove skin and dirt particles, but it can also cause damage to the upper skin layer. These injuries are caused by the withdrawal of the natural moisturizing factors.

62 % of the wash bowls in a hospital are contaminated. Usually, the wash bowls are cleaned manually and are often not dried completely. CLEANING WITHOUT WATER The wet disposable washing gloves and disposable wash wipes are specially developed for the full body washing of bedridden patients in hospitals and nursing homes. These enable a gentle and thorough body cleaning without water, soap, cosmetic products and towels. This application achieves both easy and time-saving cleaning and nursing efficiency.

Cross-contamination or contamination caused by contaminated washing bowls, water taps, etc., are avoided, which has a great hygienic advantage. All of our care products can be

heated up to 600 W for 20 sec. to body heat, in our warmer or on the heating (avoid overheating) and then disposed in the domestic refuse.

SANITATION

Activities

The antimicrobial effectiveness is based on the principle of the polyhexanide-betaine complex, in which, due to its reduced surface tension, the solution can also get into areas which water can not penetrate. The use of polyhexanide with its antimicrobial properties and excellent skin and mucous membrane compatibility in combination with a surface-active surfactant (Betaine), leads to the reliable removal of bacteria and contaminants of the skin and plays a crucial role in the decontamination of the skin.

An international guideline recommends a carefully structured skin care to prevent IAD: gentle cleansing of the skin, moisturing, skin protection

Effectiveness and compatibility The ingredients have been successfully used in various areas of the health care system for many years (including the MRSA rehabilitation), have proven themselves millions of times and are classified as dermatologically completely safe by experts.

INCONTINENCE-ASSOCIATED DERMATITIS (IAD) The skin of people suffering from urinary and / or fecal incontinence is particularly vulnerable. The form of the occurring skin damage is called incontinence associated dermatitis (IAD). It is distinguished by a local, superficial inflammation of the perineal or perigenital skin. The IAD occurs as a reddening with or without a formation of small blisters or as superficial damage to the skin. The barrier function of the skin is increasingly impaired and complications or pain can occur.

The typical localizations are perineal skin, buttock crease, left and right lower and upper buttock, genitals, lower abdomen, inguinal fold, inside and bottom of thights. The origin of the IAD is caused by dampness (caused by urine, stool or perspiration), an increase in the pH of the skin, colonization by microorganisms and friction.

In current studies, the use of 3-in-1 wipes (cleaning, moisturing, skin protection) is recommended. These wipes ensure a gentle cleaning, moisturing and a superficial skin protection film, which protects the skin from urine, stool or sweat.

REASONS FOR ORAL HYGIENE General well-being – Promotion of an intact and healthy oral mucosa The general well-being of the patient is achieved through regular oral care. Especially, patients with non-intact oral mucosa are restricted in food and fluid intake as well as oral care.

Infection prophylaxis – The prevention of ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP) With intensive care patients, who are ventilated for more than 48 hours, a ventilator-associated pneumonia – a so-called VAP (ventilator-associated pneumonia) occurs in approximately 4.25 cases of 1,000 invasive ventilation days. A VAP extends the hospital stay by 6 to 9 days and represents the most frequent fatal hospital infection. It is assumed that ventilator -associated pneumonia is predominantly caused by the aspiration of pathogens that have colonized the upper respiratory tracts. Therefore, respiratory patients need intensive oral care to prevent the development of nosocomial pneumonia.

Prevention The Commission for Hospital Hygiene and Infection Prevention of the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) provides recommendations for the prevention of nosocomial pneumonia of ventilated patients. One of the most important measures for the prevention of ventilator-associated pneumonia is regular oral care. It serves to reduce the germination of the oral cavity. The care of the oral mucosa should take place every eight hours with oral solutions, since the quality of the water, which is often used for oral care, contributes significantly to the development of ventilator-associated pneumonia triggered by water.

WOUND TREATMENT The living conditions of patients with wound problems is often burdened by wound pain, reduced mobility and odor.

Slow healing and chronic wounds, as well as their prevention, represent a major challenge in prophylaxis and treatment.

Our aim is to use innovative products to have a rapid and positive impact on the healing process without burdening the patient. With the help of ECA technology, it has been possible to produce a mineral solution from well-tolerated raw materials (water and salt), whose preservative sodium hypochlorite has a broad microbiocidal effect (also MRSA).

Skin The skin is the largest human organ and protects the organism from external (harmful) influences, no matter if those are physical, chemical, biological or thermal. If the outer shell of the body is injured, it may lead to functional limitations, loss of protective function, infiltration of microorganisms, metabolic disorders and tissue loss.

Wound A wound is understood to mean a tissue disruption or destruction of the skin, the mucous membrane or organs which is usually the result of external influences. In addition to injuries, also infections or mortification can cause a wound.

Consequences • pain and limited mobility • loss of function of the affected body part • risk of infection up to the sepsis of the whole organism • psychological, physical and social burdens The aim of wound treatment is to create the best possible conditions for wound healing, to avoid wound healing disorders and to relieve concomitant pain. Wound care is a very complex subject that consists of several measures.

Wound irrigation – the first step to wound healing Impurities, dead tissue, blood, microorganisms and the formation of biofilm often lead to wound healing disorders. A prerequisite for a good wound healing is the cleanliness of the wound surface and the wound edge. This is supported by effective yet gentle wound cleaning, decontamination and moistening based on ECA technology.

ECA technology During electrochemical activation (ECA), an aqueous mineral salt solution is passed through several electrolysis cells. This results in a mineral solution NaOCl (with NaOCl for preservation), which has special physicochemical and catalytic properties. The ECA solutions, sprays, spray gels and gels oxidize bacteria, fungi and viruses and fight them without the possibility of resistance formation.

NaOCl is the drug of choice for intensive antiseptic cleansing of soiled, traumatic wounds and repeated antiseptic cleansing of chronic wounds until the end of the cleansing phase.It also erodes MRSA. If there is a risk of exposure to CNS structures, NaOCl can be used. In septic peritonitis NaOCl can be used for peritoneal irrigation. There is no indication of toxic risks and there is no evidence of a carcinogenic hazard.

Hypochlorite NaOCl or NaOCl / HOCl are first-choice agents for single or repetitive intensive, antiseptic cleans ing of contaminated traumatic wounds and for the repetitive antiseptic cleansing of chronic wounds for the duration of the cleaning phase. Colonization with MRSA is effectively eradicated. OCl – may even be used for antisepsis when structures of the CNS are exposed or, in the case of peritonitis, as an antiseptic agent for peritoneal lavage.

MRSA – HAZARDOUS BACTERIA MRSA (methicillin-resistant staphylococcus aureus) are bacteria that are present in many people, but for the time being pose no danger. The bacteria settle on the skin, in the mouth and throat, noses and ears. MRSA enters the body via wounds or mucous membranes. If the immune system is weakened, it can quickly become dangerous because MRSA causes serious infections. The use of antibiotics is not always successful because these pathogens are multidrug resistant to a variety of antibiotics.

The problem The issue of MRSA has arrived in the entire health system and was discussed by the German Federal Ministry of Health.

Television, the press, and eventually all media, are reporting the growing number of cases. The attention of the population to this topic is steadily increasing, because about 20 % of the patients are infected by a hospital infection before and / or while, and also after the stay, affected by different exits up to the death.

According to recent studies, we are talking about over 1 million estimated nosocomial lethal in Germany, of which approximately 40,000 are fatal (Prof. Dr. Walter Popp, German Society for Hospital Hygiene – DGKH). The average length of stay / isolation time is about 11.7 days. The cost of an additional infection in MRSA patients (around 50 %) is difficult to determine. An MRSA complete set will considerably reduce personnel and material costs, standardize processes and also reduce the use of antibiotics.

Infection prevention • Protection: Necessary protective measures such as adequate protective clothing (gowns, gloves, mask, bonnet), but also disinfection of hands before and after renovation.

• Rehabilitation: Suitable, compatible and decontaminating care products for all areas of the body.

• Disposal: Marked disposal bags to ensure a better and transparent disposal of contaminated waste.

The solution With our homedcare®-infect-MRSA sets, we have developed two standard sets that simplify the processes during germinal remediation. In addition, it is also possible to assemble a customized set.

The products for the remediation of the mouth, nose, ear and wound include an electro-chemically activated water and mineral salt solution (ECA), which decompose after use in their natural sources of water and salt.The wash gloves and shampoo caps contain a polyhexanide-betaine mixture. ECA solutions have been successfully used in the fields of food hygiene and agriculture for many years.
