MISSION & VISION

Noble will ensure that all students have equitable and positive school experiences that equip them to complete college and lead choice-filled lives.

Reflections on the 2022-2023 School Year We are a community filled with nearly 1,500 dedicated and talented teachers, staff, and leaders who relentlessly seek to live out our mission of ensuring that all students have equitable and positive school experiences that equip them to complete college and lead choice-filled lives. This mission is the reason why the families of our 12,000 students choose Noble every year. It is what goes into the Noble Difference, and the 2022-2023 school year truly encapsulated what makes Noble such a special place. Our commitment to college is one of the top reasons our families continue to choose Noble, C O N S TA N C E J O N E S Noble Schools CEO

and last school year was another banner year for our graduating seniors. The Class of 2023 earned $623 million in college scholarships, and 89% of the class plans to pursue college, a 2% increase over the previous year’s class. With the help of our incredible college team, the Class of 2023 will have the lowest average out-of-pocket cost to attend college in the past 5 years, at just over $1,400 per year. Not only are our students choosing college, but our College Counseling and Alumni Supports are also ensuring they are getting the professional experience and exposure necessary to lead choice-filled lives. The Alumni Career Office offers our alumni in college the opportunity to gain valuable experience with local companies through our Externship Program while they are home for school breaks. And before going to college, we offer a Career Dive program to provide exposure to different career paths and job opportunities. Another one of our pre-college programs, Summer of a Lifetime, celebrated its 10,000th student this summer. This program sends thousands of rising juniors to colleges and universities all across the country to live on campus and experience college. Our data has shown that 61% of our students who participate in Summer of a Lifetime earn bachelors degrees, which is nearly 5x the rate of low-income students nationally. The collective impact of this program has been tremendous, and we are so proud to have reached such an important milestone. This year brought another milestone as we celebrated the 10-year anniversary of both Hansberry College Prep and DRW College Prep. We’ve had the privilege of serving thousands of students in the Auburn-Gresham and North Lawndale communities in the past decade, and look forward to continuing to serve the students and families at Hansberry and DRW for years to come. We thank you, our generous supporters. Your belief in Noble allows us to provide positive school experiences for students and families across Chicago. We will continue to build schools that center and affirm Black and Brown students and fuel their highest aspirations — this is the Noble Difference. I hope you enjoy this look back at our school year.

Constance Jones, CEO

As a rising junior in high school, I got an internship at DRW Trading and I’m glad they decided to take a chance on me.” D E S H A W N P H I L L I P S , DRW Trading, IT Desk Engineer and DRW College Prep Alumnus, Class of 2017

Hansberry College Prep Celebrating a decade of academic distinction, Hansberry College Prep commemorates its 10-year anniversary as a trailblazing institution named after the iconic playwright Lorraine Hansberry. Distinguished as the pioneer public charter school in Illinois to achieve the esteemed status of an International Baccalaureate (IB) World School, it stands as a beacon of educational innovation in the Auburn Gresham Community. The school’s remarkable journey is fortified by philanthropic backing from the Pritzker Traubert Foundation, further fueling its mission of empowering students through education.

Family Experience The Noble Difference: Families Leading and Influencing Change

2023 Family Experience Survey In January 2023, we administered our Family Experience Survey which elevates the voices of the 4,000 Noble parents and families who participated. Feedback from last year’s survey led us to launch a Safety Action Committee to develop a long-term, holistic safety and security strategy, informed changes to the student dress code, and supported additional opportunities for parent feedback elsewhere. The data below outline themes that we heard from our families across our schools about how we are executing our shared mission and values this year.

Noble Lobby Day For the first time since the pandemic, Noble participated in an in-person Lobby Day in Springfield, IL. On April 26th, 15 Noble parents and staff joined over 100 advocates in the Funding Illinois Future Coalition to advocate for $550 million in additional funds for Evidence-Based Funding. In collaboration with Noble’s Government and Community Affairs team, Noble parents and family members made a difference by participating in direct advocacy and coalition building, essential means through which we will continue to see results.

Parent Leadership Series The Parent Leadership Series (PLS) is a program run by our Government & Community Affairs team throughout the school year. It consists of workshops for Noble parents to sharpen their advocacy skills and share their stories to shape our impact in the city and beyond.

“My daughter began her educational journey with Noble, specifically Butler College Prep, her sophomore year. She has flourished ever since. Her enthusiasm and love for her educators and administrators are what inspired me to want to get involved. I want to support the community that inspires my child to see greatness in herself.” Temeka Cartwright (right) talks with another parent leader, Myisha Shields (left), at this year’s first Parent Leadership Series meeting.

Academics The Noble Difference: Centering the Student Experience

We continued to be driven by the research around Accelerated Learning* as the best path to tackling our need to improve academic growth. Pacing plans, baseline curriculum, and centralized professional development are all aligned to this research. This past school year, we saw similar student growth outcomes in 10th and 11th grade that we achieved before the pandemic. 9th grade continues to be a challenge for us as we have not yet returned to prepandemic levels; this is an area of priority for the 2023-2024 school year. The achievements made in 10th and 11th grade can be attributed to our strategic shift towards prioritizing accelerated learning and emphasizing college readiness. By refocusing our efforts in these areas, we managed to maintain our track record of fostering similar levels of PSAT and SAT student growth as we did prior to remote learning, showcasing our commitment to providing quality education despite challenging circumstances. * Note: The Learning Acceleration Strategy was developed by The New Teacher Project (TNTP) as a research-supported approach to help students recover from inequitable learning losses stemming from the COVID-19 pandemic.

Student Experiences Across our campuses, students have been enjoying an enriching and diverse range of experiences. For example, Golder College Prep boasts an inspiring marching band, UIC College Prep nurtures a vibrant Black Student Union, Chicago Bulls College Prep fosters a dynamic debate team, and Rowe-Clark Math & Science Academy provides students with professional-level work through its student internship program. These unique offerings reflect Noble’s commitment to positive student experiences and the cultivation of well-rounded future leaders.

The Arts On Saturday, February 25th, over 150 members of the Noble Schools community gathered together to celebrate music and student musicians at Noble’s annual Honor Music Festival. The festival, now in its fifth year, has become a prominent event to showcase all kinds of musical talents, and it keeps growing even larger. David Batdorf, choir director at Golder College Prep and one of the main organizers of the event shared, “while many elements have remained similar, this year’s event expanded to include strings and steel pan drums, reflecting the music programs at additional Noble campuses.”

Summer of a Lifetime The Noble Difference: Opening Doors to College

This summer, we reached a significant milestone for Summer of a Lifetime: our 10,000th participant! Since 1997, Noble has been dedicated to providing unparalleled opportunities for our rising juniors to experience firsthand the world of higher education. Our Summer of a Lifetime alumni enroll in college at higher rates and graduate college at a rate of 61%, which is the

“This experience was everything I thought it would be. I still can’t believe I had the opportunity to be a college student. Most students in [Chicago] do not have this same experience. I am forever grateful for the lessons I learned, the people I’ve met and the motivation it gave me. Because of [Summer of a Lifetime], I am more interested in attending college. I’m more excited about my future and I have Noble and Butler College Prep to thank for that.” C H A Z P R E S B E R R Y, Butler College Prep, Class of 2025

Taste of College For the first time since 2020, nearly 400 guests gathered to celebrate Summer of a Lifetime’s 20th Taste of College fundraiser in February. The return to an in-person event brought together Noble staff, alumni, and supporters to celebrate the transformative pre-college program and donations exceeded the event’s fundraising goal. In addition to great food and an exciting auction, the Golder College Prep marching band and step team brought the energy with an incredible performance.

Summer of a Lifetime Send-Off In May, Noble held its annual Summer of a Lifetime Send-Off at Mansueto High School. The event celebrated the 1,000 students that were preparing to go off to 60 different colleges across the country, including Harvard, Brown, Johns Hopkins, Notre Dame, Syracuse, Boston College, the University of Illinois, the University of Michigan, and the University of Wisconsin. Participants had the chance to meet other students across Noble campuses that would be attending the same college, hear about past experiences from alumni, and celebrate the milestone of sending our 10,000th scholar on their own Summer of a Lifetime.
