THIRTEEN's August 2013 Program Guide

VOL 21, ISSUE 8 / AUGUST 2013

IN 1973, THIRTEEN AIRED live, uninterrupted coverage of the Senate Watergate Hearings for 47 days and nights. The historic broadcast event, anchored by Robert MacNeil and Jim Lehrer, produced an outpouring of 25,000 member contributions and forever changed the way Americans viewed broadcast news. The success of this coverage led to the creation of the Robert MacNeil Report, which later became the MacNeil/Lehrer NewsHour in 1983. It was the country’s first full-hour evening news program. As this extraordinary story illustrates, our members are the heart and soul of THIRTEEN. You are our driving force. You help us take risks and make history. You have great expectations of us. You encourage us to innovate. You let us know when we succeed and when we disappoint you, and that pushes us to greater heights. We truly couldn’t be who we are without you. Whether you’re a Station Partner who donates every month automatically, a member of the Patron Network or Legacy Society, or a brand new member, your support makes it possible for us to bring you the quality programming you enjoy and expect from us—content that inspires, educates, and makes an impact in our community. That is why we have dedicated our 50th anniversary to extending a million thanks to you. Here’s to another 50 fabulous years!

THIRTEEN is alive with the sound of music in August. Scottish singer-songwriter Emeli Sandé, who performed at the 2012 London Olympics, makes her public television debut in Emeli Sandé: Live at the Royal Albert Hall (Sat 3rd, 6:30 p.m.), and Mary Wilson of the Supremes hosts 60s Girl Grooves (Sat 3rd, 9 p.m.), a new My Music special. You can also enjoy encores of recent favorites like Great Performances: Broadway Musicals: A Jewish Legacy (Sun 4th, 7 p.m.), Live From Lincoln Center: Josh Groban: All That Echoes (Sat 10th, 7:30 p.m.), Burt Bacharach’s Best (Sat 3rd, 7:30 p.m.), and Barbra Streisand: One Night Only at The Village Vanguard (Sat 3rd, 5 p.m.).
