Gratitude for The Upper Room

A Uyghur woman arrived in the UK and immediately applied for refugee status after fleeing persecution in China. With no money, job, or friends in the UK, she ended up spending the night sitting on her luggage in the reception area of her hostel, terrified at the prospect of sleeping rough.

She then found The Upper Room’s phone number online and gave us a call. We welcomed her in, and through our services, UR4M (The Upper Room Meals service) ensured she had food and a place to stay. A visiting caseworker from Glass Door, a charity supporting homeless individuals, helped her secure housing in a female-only shared flat in Shepherd’s Bush. Mike, our Administrator, worked with her to curate her CV and encouraged her to distribute it around Westfield.

A few days later, Sephora invited her for an interview and offered her a job. She started working there and recently, she came back with a cake to say thank you to The Upper Room for all the support we provided during her time of need. www.theupperroom.org.uk
