Soak up the culture at a show at Lyric Hammersmith Theatre
From 22 May to 21 June, Marriage Material will be performed at Lyric Hammersmith Theatre.
Based on the novel by Sathnam Sanghera and directed by Iqbal Khan (East is East), the play’s plot follows the family who runs Bains’ corner shop in Wolverhampton.
In 1969, Mrs Bains is balancing running the business, caring for her ailing husband and the demands of her two headstrong daughters, who each have their eye on a different kind of future.
In the present day, a family tragedy pulls Arjan Bains back from a life in London. The shop represents everything he was trying to escape, but with his mother insisting it remain open, how long can he stay away?
It will be performed in the Main House at the theatre on Lyric Square, King Street. Tickets priced from £10.
Looking ahead to the summer, the musical Sing Street will be running from 8 July to 23 August in the Main House. Tickets are from £10.
Based on the book by Enda Walsh with music and lyrics by Gary Clark and John Carney, the show is set in the 1982 in Dublin.
