Looking after our wellbeing

Step back in time, step forward for dementia awareness:

An Unmissable Event at Syon House

– Join us on Tuesday, 20th May, for a day of learning, sharing, and connection at the stunning Great Conservatory of Syon House.

As part of Dementia Action Week 2025, this event offers an engaging mix of activities, informative talks, and opportunities to connect with everyone interested in learning more about dementia set amidst the serene beauty of one of London’s historic estates.

More than 2,000 people in Hounslow now have dementia. However, dementia affects not just the person with the diagnosis but also their family, friends, carers, and the entire community. Dementia affects everyone in a profound way, from the emotional toll on loved ones to the difficulties with daily activities.

This community event brings together people living with dementia, their caregivers, professionals, and anyone keen to learn more about this condition. Whether you are seeking support hoping to make connections or simply want to be part of an empowering community conversation, you are welcome. What awaits you throughout the day

The picturesque Great Conservatory and surrounding gardens will host a variety of free sessions and activities, such as:

• Interactive workshops on caregiving, wellbeing, and promoting independence.

• Expert talks covering safeguarding, dementia and legal rights, and pathways to local support.

• The launch of Hounslow’s new Dementia Directory —a valuable resource for families and professionals

Our wellbeing should be important to us all, whether in the workplace or at home. We are now making our wellbeing a priority and by putting our wellbeing first, we are concentrating on our physical and mental health. All articles are contributed by Chamber members. We thank them!

• Soothing Namaste sessions, featuring hand massages, gentle movement, and calming sounds.

• A captivating performance by the Hounslow Symphony Orchestra.

Additionally, you’ll have the opportunity to engage directly with professionals, including healthcare providers and legal experts ready to offer personalised advice and support. “Events like this are essential because they educate, inspire, foster unity, and bring us closer as a community,” stated Sanjay Vadhera, Managing Director of Right at Home and Chair of Dementia Friends Hounslow. “Establishing a community that is dementiafriendly is one way that businesses and organisations can contribute. Businesses can make modest but significant adjustments to become dementia-friendly, such as providing quiet rooms, better signage, or training employees to better understand dementia. This not only enhances inclusivity and accessibility but also conveys a strong sense of respect, caring, and support”.

Organisations collaborating in this year’s Dementia Action Week include: Right at Home, Alzheimer’s Society, Age UK, Hounslow Council Enhanced Dementia Care Service, Garner & Hancock, West London NHS Trust, Lampton Leisure, visiting Angels and Care UK.

Entry is Free: There will also be free car parking and refreshments.
