Founded in 2010, Team Factors supports start-ups and midsized businesses with flexible cash-flow solutions. But it was a targeted management programme that transformed the company from a lifestyle business into a growth-focused operation.

The turning point came when a private investor acquired the company. The management team suddenly faced a new challenge – aligning their strategies with the investor’s goals.

Lizzie William, Group Managing Director, said: “I knew my knowledge was primarily shaped by my experience within the business. The need for a broader perspective and a structured approach to growth became clear.”

It was Commercial Director Dean McGarry who recommended the Help to Grow: Management programme delivered by Hertfordshire Business School, part of the University of Hertfordshire. Lizzie enrolled seeking practical tools to lead the business through its next phase.

The programme offers a comprehensive look into key areas of business growth, from strategic planning and leadership development to innovation and digital adoption.

Lizzie said: “The course provided a deep dive into all aspects of business growth, which was exactly what we needed as a management team. I still revisit different topics as they become relevant again.”

This continued engagement with the course content has empowered Team Factors to tackle challenges with greater confidence, resulting in greater client retention and a growing reputation for building lasting relationships.

Backed by expert-led sessions, hands-on frameworks and a network of supportive peers, the programme equips leaders with the tools needed to drive meaningful change and seize new opportunities.

Help to Grow: Management is a 12-week course, 90 per cent funded by the Government and designed for SME leaders and senior managers. It blends online and face-to-face learning to enhance skills in leadership, innovation, digital transformation and more.

Delivered by expert practitioners, the programme covers core business areas including:

• Strategy and innovation

• Digital adoption

• Marketing and branding

• High-performance workplace culture

• Finance

Team Factors is just one of many examples of how the programme is helping strengthen the region’s business landscape. By supporting SMEs across the region, Hertfordshire Business School is playing a vital role in:

• Enhancing local employment opportunities

• Driving regional innovation

• Building economic resilience and supporting community growth

The ripple effects of these improvements are being felt across the county as more businesses become better equipped to serve their clients, compete in changing markets and contribute to a thriving local economy.

Over 30,000 SME leaders nationwide have participated in the programme, with the next cohort beginning in January.
