Airport offers grants to help SMEs take off

A London airport is calling for SMEs across the UK to share their export ambitions as part of a renewed initiative aimed at supporting international business growth.

Heathrow Airport is relaunching its World of Opportunity Programme, which helps exporters from every region of the UK to sell their goods and services around the world, for 2025-2026.

Following the success of last year’s scheme, Heathrow is again offering £2,000 grants to 12 SME businesses across the UK, with one grant awarded to a business from each region – helping them unlock new export opportunities around the world.

The airport has partnered with the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) to help judge the applications. In addition to the financial support, successful applicants will gain access to advice through the Export Support Service, provided by the Department for Business and Trade, helping them shape effective export strategies.

Last year’s winners used the funding for a range of growth activities – from market research in new territories to participating in key trade opportunities.

Applications for the 2025-2026 programme are open until December 31. A panel of business and government experts – including Nigel Milton, Heathrow’s Chief Communications and Sustainability Officer, along with representatives from the FSB and the Department for Business and Trade –will select the 12 winning businesses.

Heathrow is encouraging all UK SMEs with global ambitions to take advantage of this valuable opportunity.
