Construction company flying high after securing landmark contract

A long-established Luton-based specialist contractor has secured an £11.6 million contract for the refurbishment of three previously vacant hangars at London Luton Airport.

Neville Special Projects, sister company to Neville Funerals, secured the contract following a highly competitive tender process for the design and build of hangars 9, 60 and 127.

The contract comes as the Neville Trust Group celebrates its 150th anniversary.

Ben Knight, Construction Director at Neville Special Projects, said: “This was a tough, highly competitive tender and the effort the team put in behind the scenes was exceptional. From early engagement through to final submission, the level of collaboration, technical input and sheer tenacity was second to none.”

The refurbishment will bring the vacant hangars – once operated by Monarch Aircraft Engineering – back into active use. In a full circle moment, hangar 60 was originally built by the group’s founding company T & E Neville for Monarch in the 1990s.

Now set to house a new EasyJet aircraft maintenance facility and apprenticeship training campus, the refurbishment will create over 30 highly skilled engineering roles, supporting up to 40 apprentices annually.

A subsidiary of the Neville Trust Group – originally established in Luton in 1875

– Neville Special Projects specialises in high-quality refurbishment and newbuild schemes across a wide range of sectors including aviation, education, healthcare and commercial.

A long-standing employer in Luton, the company employs a workforce drawn primarily from the surrounding area and runs its own in-house apprenticeship programme, training the next generation of skilled tradespeople and construction professionals.

Ben said: “It’s wins like this that really highlight what we can achieve when we pull together with a clear focus and shared purpose. This is a fantastic result and a great opportunity to further strengthen our presence with London Luton Airport.”
