Managers comments Hi all,

we’d like to welcome Clayden fc to the den today and look forward to a clean competitive game.

With last weeks selections against Westerfield starting as usual and then with Gav naming the squad and players calling off cause of injuries or being suspended for a week at the last minute it makes it frustrating. We’d done so well the past few weeks and we wanted to keep the momentum going forward and with a couple players coming back and a couple of good additions from the Ressies side the lads didn’t disappoint us. From the off we worked hard and kept the ball and pressed in their half creating a few half chances. Not long into the game with us on the front foot one of our middle field dynamos Joe Murphy, who was just back from a long lay off, pulled up with a bad thigh strain. Cue (I need 45 minutes to warm up Gav) Ross the big’en Pemberton, back in the squad this year through his determination to stay fit and bring some much needed aggression back in the side donned the pitch. On the odd occasion Westerfield penetrated into our third but MOM captain Chris Sillet tidied things up with his counter part Sam Newson having a solid half beside him and with full backs Bails and Eags, Westerfield didn’t have much joy in front of goal. On the odd occasion the opposition took a bit of an advantage of a rather subdued and hungover Leigh ‘the haircut’ Bailey but to no prevail. We kept applying the pressure and just before half time and with a 3 yard spurt Wrighty found himself in the Westerfield 6 yard box and stumbling forward the ball rolled down his nose onto chest continuing down his leg and he rifled the ball home to put us one up at half time .

The 2nd half saw a change from our bench with another seasoned pro Darren Harper replacing Tommy Mower to freshen things up and give Mows a well deserved breather. We started a bit slower 2nd half and this gave Westerfield a bit of space which they used to their advantage and breaking down the left hand side they drilled the ball across our box but Bails who had his man in his pocket most of the game forced him onto his weaker left foot or so he thought as the ball rattled in the back of the net good thinking Bails. At 1-1 a few choice words from the bench and the desire and grit in the side now it wasn’t long with pressure down the wings from Wince and Seb and an energetic Bladesy up top earning us numerous free kicks. One of whici was converted into a goal by big’en Ross Pemberton. Well done mate still doing box to box. At 2-1 the game wasn’t done and a couple of times Westerfield stretched us using the width of the pitch well, but still with the desire to push forward Seb found himself in enough space to let on fly. From the bench it looked like it was just going over the bar but a touch from the keeper seemed to drag it down hitting the crossbar and bouncing back into play where Daz ‘the hitman’ Harper was there to head the ball home to put the game to bed. So with the 3 Oldens (combined age of about 120 years) showing the young’ens where the back of the net is we came away with all 3 points which was well deserved. As manager Gavin said the Haughley game has set our standard and every match we look to improve more with the squad getting stronger there’s can’t say that we’ve definitely turned a corner. With our attitude and determination towards match days and Gav will have the lads fired up for today’s tough game against top of league Claydon.

BARKERS BOYS Another tough game last week Not a lot in it. Just a couple of mistakes and we got punished for it. They were a big side and we didn’t play it to feet as much as we should of. This is a very competitive league and as you can see it’s the odd goal that is a difference between winning and losing.

When we played it to feet it looked good and we looked the better team. We did create a few chances but it wasn’t our day. Shooting wide and not hitting the ball clean. But we go again next week.
