Browns Bay Racquets Club

Browns Bay Families open doors to New Caledonian racquet players Browns Bay Racquets Club held its annual four days Masters and Juniors Squash competition last month. Special note at the competition were the 20 master and junior participants who arrived from New Caledonia for the event. The international participants were among a total of over 120 players who competed at all levels to win cash prizes and gifts. The Masters final of the competition was between Mark Foxcroft (Browns Bay) and Alex Collenot (New Caledonia). It was an exciting finish to the competition and an exemplary game of squash, cheered by many young spectators. The game result was a 3-0 win to Mark Foxcroft. In the Juniors section, Rafa Yam took top place, winning 3-0 over Gabe Yam. Families from the racquets club welcomed the international players and offered accommodation to the New Caledonia junior players as part of an international exchange program launched by the Browns Bay club. Earlier in the year, Browns Bay members had reciprocated on last year’s visit, by travelling to New Caledonia, participating in a local tournament and learning more about New Caledonian home-life and culture. “We came here [to Browns Bay Racquets Club] for the third time to continue our exchange between our club and yours. For the young guys, it’s a chance to enjoy New Zealand culture and to play with another level in other countries. They enjoy the variety of life and also feel their progress, playing better than before. I offer my thanks to all who made the tournament work and to families who took our young children in their homes. We have greatly enjoyed the community of Browns Bay.“ said Alex Collenot, Team Captain of Dumbea Club, New Caledonia. The Racquets club has been growing in size and popularity over the past few years. The club has over 550 members and actively provides coaching and competition opportunities in Jeff & Alex.
