INTERVIEW WITH JOEL HRASKO

TOPIC: The Injury That Changed Me

Have you ever been seriously injured?

Yes, the worst injury I have sustained would be me breaking my Clavicle

How long ago was this?

This would have been around November 2019

How did the injury happen?

I fell over trying to clear the puck front he corner and a big guy on the other team slid into me I was not expecting the contact and I was not braced for it so when I collided with the boards, my shoulders weren't in a good position

I don’t think he wanted to cause an injury, but he was trying to cause pain and was hitting our players hard

How would this injury have been prevented?

If it were to ever happen again, I would brace for the contact properly

How long were you out for?

I was in a sling for 6 weeks After that, I was perfectly back to normal

How did you recover?

I had to restrict all movement from that side of my body I was also given exercises to do once the sling was off

Do you still have problems from the injury?

Still to this day I cannot sleep on that side of my body, but other than that, it's okay

Did the injury ruin your career?

Yes, had I not been injured, I would have tried to go to the AHL and make a career out of hockey, but the injury was at the worst time for it

Did the injury change the way you play?

To an extent I have to be much more careful going in corners now and I always have to be expecting any contact

MICHAELPHELPS

When someone trains hard their body needs to rest and rebuild, this takes time and athletes try to speed this processupinanywaypossible.Analtitudechambercan helpwiththerecoveryprocess.

Howdoesitdoit

When at high altitude, the body “creates more blood vessels” (Altitude) to carry more oxygen through the body. Because there is more blood flow and oxygen in circulation through the body, recovery will be faster. Somebenefitsofusinganaltitudechambercaninclude “improved heart functionality, stronger endurance and shorter recovery times” (Altitude). There is also some researchthatshowsitmayhelpwithweightloss

Phelps

Michael Phelps said in 2012 that he has “slept at 8,000ft for nearly a year every night”. This shows that this is one of the secret techniques a professional swimmer uses to enhance his performance. More blood flow can greatly increase the outputwhenswimming.
