Principal’s message

Be anchored in Values

Dear Readers/ BDMS Family

As we unveil this year’s school magazine, I am filled with pride and excitement to share the remarkable journey we’ve embarked upon together. Building on the foundation laid last year, we have continued to embrace and deepen our commitment to our guiding principles of Being Anchored in Values, Daring to Aspire, Motivating One Another, and strengthening Our Strengths - our beloved BDMS. Let me share how our staff and students have exemplified each aspect of BDMS through our various programmes and achievements:

Our commitment to character development remains the cornerstone of our educational approach. Our Let’s BDMS! programme at the start of each term has reinforced our core values and principles, setting a positive tone for the school year. Our Uniformed Groups have demonstrated outstanding commitment, with NPCC, NCC, and Red Cross Youth achieving Gold for their Unit Assessments, and Girl Guides securing a Silver. The Secondary 2 “Love Our Community” initiative with St. Andrew’s Nursing Home and Kwong Wai Shiu Hospital showcased our students’ compassion and sense of social responsibility.

Dare to aspire

We continue to encourage our students to dream big and work diligently towards their goals. Our Talent Development Programme (TDP) has nurtured exceptional abilities, as evidenced by our students’ success in various competitions. The Academic Support Programme (ASP) has fostered a culture of peer learning and motivation. In the 2024 Singapore and Asian Schools Math Olympiad (SASMO), our students secured an impressive array of medals, including a Gold in the Upper Secondary category. Our Concert Band’s Gold Award at the Asia Pacific Band Festival demonstrates the heights our students can reach when they dare to aspire, amplified by 13 young Bendemeerian musicians’ momentous participation in the Singapore Symphony Orchestra (SSO)’s annual National Day Concert.

Motivate one another

The spirit of mutual support has been palpable throughout our school. Our B Division Tchoukball Boys’ championship victory and the B Division Football Boys League 2 triumph highlight the power of teamwork and mutual encouragement. The success of our Taekwondo teams, securing Silver and Bronze awards in various categories, showcases the strength of collective motivation.

strengthen our strengths

We have focused on nurturing individual and collective strengths. Our C.L.A.P.S programme (Cognitive, Leadership, Aesthetics and cultural, Physical education, and Socio-emotional and mental wellness) at the end of each semester has provided a holistic approach to strengthening our students’ diverse abilities. Academic excellence shone through in competitions like the Singapore Junior Biology Olympiad (3 Silver, 3 Bronze, 1 Honourable Mention) and the IgnITE Skills Challenge (Silver award). The creative talents of our students were recognised in the 22nd National Secondary School Chinese Creative Writing Competition (2nd prize) and the Berita Harian Gen G Publication (two students’ poems were published). These achievements are just a snapshot of the incredible work happening at Bendemeer. From our success at the Junior Chef Competition to our victories in the SJI Mousetrap Car Challenge and Temasek Polytechnic Engineering Olympiad, our students continue to excel across diverse fields.

As you peruse these pages, you will witness how our BDMS principles have invigorated our school community. Each story, each achievement, each moment of growth is a testament to the power of these guiding principles working in harmony.

This year’s magazine is not just a record of our achievements - it is a celebration of our growth as a school. It showcases how we have taken the best of our traditions and infused them with fresh energy and purpose. From our students’ academic accomplishments to their community service initiatives, and from our teachers’ innovative pedagogies to their unwavering support for student well-being, every page reflects our collective commitment to growth and excellence.

I invite you to explore these pages with pride and excitement. Let each story inspire you to embrace our BDMS principles, to strive for excellence, and to contribute positively to our school and the wider community. Whether you’re a student pushing your boundaries, a teacher nurturing young minds, or a parent supporting our school’s mission, you play a crucial role in our BDMS journey.

Here’s to another year of growth, achievement, and unity. Let’s continue to BDMS with renewed vigour and purpose, always striving to be our best selves in all that we do!

Onward, BDMS!

Yours, in Education

Welcome to the Bendemeer Family

“Having just stepped out of family crisis, I sought for a place where I can do meaningful work while balancing my family commitments. Bendemeer opened its arms to me, a timely answer to which I feel truly grateful. The warm and welcoming staff culture eased me in. I feel encouraged to journey alongside fellow educators, keeping people at the heart and core of all that we do. I will cherish the good times and pass on the blessings.”

Ms Tan Eng Lee Lily

“My first year at BDMS has been fast-paced, demanding, and heartwarming. The inclusive and welcoming school culture, along with strong support from leaders, teachers, and staff, helped me navigate challenges like adapting to a new environment, motivating students, and promoting professional learning without scheduled time. I am inspired by the teachers’ deep commitment to their students, sharing the same goals and aspirations. Together, I believe we can achieve even more for both our students and educators.”

Dr Leong Swee Ling

“A warm hello to the BDMS family! It’s been about half a year since I rejoined the school (I previously taught here from 2012-2013), and it has been a wonderful experience. Thank you all for welcoming me back. I am grateful for the strong camaraderie among the staff. Additionally, I enjoy imparting skills and ideas to the lovely students, both in and outside the classroom. I look forward to an even better 2025 at BDMS!”

This school has taught me to embrace humility and sincerity. I am excited to continue learning and growing with Bendemeer!”

Ms Siti Amirah Mohamad Isah

“Guiding students through the maze of education and career choices is like being a gardener of dreams. We plant seeds of possibility, nurture curiosity, and watch as they blossom into their true potential. It’s not just about showing them the path; it’s about helping them find their own way. Being part of their journey, seeing them grow and succeed, is more than just satisfying - it’s a reminder of why we do what we do.”

“I love teaching and shaping young minds and the time I’ve spent in BDMS has solidified that passion. BDMS has been a conducive place for me to teach, learn and grow as an educator. I’m so glad to be part of our school which prioritises both the educational and holistic growth of students from a variety of backgrounds. I’ve had such a great time here this past year.”

It’s an all-hands-ondeck approach to support the students under our care. It feels like kampung helping one another to help our students. I have also had pleasant experiences interacting with our students, who are down-to-earth and authentic. Overall, I’m glad to be a part of this school!”

Refreshed learning and Working spaces

In 2024, Bendemeer Secondary School refreshed several spaces in the school, in order to provide a more conducive environment for staff and students. Our teaching staff moved back into the newly refurbished staffrooms in Term 1, while our refreshed library and parade square were ready in early Term 2. In Term 3, we were proud to unveil the newly minted Student Services Hub and our ‘Be Anchored in Values’ wall. The latter is a beautiful mural designed by Toh Shi Yi and Nakano Lim Umi, Secondary 3 Art students, who were guided by our Art teachers, Ms Colene Lin and Mdm Noorlizah, as well as Artist in Residence Ms Tan Zi Xi.

These refreshed spaces are testament to the school’s ongoing commitment in fostering a positive teaching and learning environment. In particular, our revamped school library has received substantial attention. Apart from our own staff and students flocking to the space in droves, the media has also spotlighted how our ‘library of the future’ is a space that encourages collaboration with its innovative and creative design elements.

Celebrating our students’ Talents and successes!

Throughout the year, Bendemeerians have actively participated in various competitions organised by external agencies, mustering the courage to challenge themselves to do their best for their Co-Curricular Activity (CCA) or subject matter. Apart from winning accolades in various language writing competitions and the Math and Science Olympiads, we have celebrated many other successes that have showcased their commitment to different areas of interest.

Our Malay students have had their poems and essays published in Berita Harian and other publications, and we have also compiled our Chinese students’ essays in an annual publication as well. Our students were awarded a Silver for their ‘My Sustainabot’ entry at this year’s IgnITE Skills Challenge, and a Gold award for the Animation and Game Making Competition 2024. We also had four enterprising students who participated in the Junior Chef Culinary Competition organised by Yishun Secondary School, and they won 6th and 7th positions amidst more than 70 entries. In addition, we are heartened that our students’ intricate and astonishing artwork has been printed as postcards that have been used as appreciation cards, as well as a beautiful mural near the study area.

Members of our very own Bendemeer Secondary School’s Concert Band had the privilege of working together with the Singapore National Youth Orchestra (SNYO), and this Combined Band took the stage with the Singapore Symphony Orchestra (SSO) at the Esplanade Concert Hall for its annual National Day Concert. Two of our Tchoukball boys won Athlete of the Year at the National Tchoukball Awards, and four of our Tchoukball boys were also part of the Tchoukball M15 team that won Team of the Year at the Singapore Sports Awards!

Well done, Bendemeerians! We are really proud of you!

Football: nsg B Division league 2 Final

Our B Division Football Boys emerged champions in the NSG B Division League 2 Final on 8 May, and our hearts are full! This triumph is a testament to the values, aspirations and strengths of the Bendemeer family. We rallied the whole school community in rocking Jalan Besar Stadium down with our resounding cheers and motivation as the team exemplified the essence of sheer determination and resilience. None of this would have been possible without the unwavering support of our entire school community, from our dedicated teachers and fellow schoolmates to the invaluable contributions of our School Advisory Committee (SAC), school teaching and non-teaching staff, including the canteen, cleaning, and security aunties and uncles, who also joined us at the stadium! We are immensely proud of our team and school because our success has been a journey of bold aspirations and remarkable school spirit! Let’s continue to shine, BDMS!

academic achievements

The GCE N-Level results were released on 18 December 2023, while the GCE O-Level results for 2023 were released on 11 January 2024.

Our school has continued to deliver value-added results, with many students able to progress to post-secondary institutions. Our Sec 4 Normal (Academic) and Sec 4 Normal (Technical) students have achieved a high level of N-Level passes. As for our O-Level cohort, we are heartened to note that many of our students have managed to qualify for post-secondary education in junior colleges or polytechnics. We also acknowledge the students who have done well while overcoming different forms of adversity.

On 22 August 2024, our Secondary 4 and 5 students received their O-level results for their Mother Tongue languages. We are proud of their achievements, with the cohort attaining higher distinction rates for all three languages - Chinese Language, Malay Language and Tamil Language.

We would like to thank all the teachers and non-teaching staff for helping our N-Level and O-Level students over the past four to five years. This support has been crucial to helping them achieve credible results and be able to progress to the next stage of their education.

We congratulate all our graduating students and wish them all the best for their future endeavours!

secondary 1 orientation

At the beginning of the year, the newest members of the BDMS family received the warmest welcome with three days of action-packed Secondary 1 Orientation programme!

A wide range of activities in the programme were designed to help the new students transition smoothly into this exciting new phase of their lives. From basic grooming to ICT orientation, the Secondary 1 students were given as much help as possible to familiarise themselves with their day-to-day functioning at school.

Needless to say, there were many games designed to let the Secondary 1 students get to know each other and the school, including tele-matches that allow the students to foster class bonding, at the same time get to know the school compound. Students were also treated to various CCA experiences of the sports and performing arts groups.

The finale of the orientation brought the whole program to a high where various prizes were given out to the Secondary 1 classes to recognise their achievements and effort during the program. The most anticipated part of the orientation had to be the CCA Showcase. The Secondary 1 students and their parents were invited to visit the booths set up by all the CCAs. The entire school was buzzing with activities as the senior members pulled off all forms of publicity stunts to attract the potential members and their parents. The joyous carnival ambience cannot be a more appropriate conclusion to an all-week high of the orientation programme. Once again, to all Secondary 1 students, WELCOME & Let’s BDMS!

Chinese new year Celebration

The school hall was a hive of activity on 8 February, as we ushered in the Year of the Dragon with song and dance, together with displays of wushu and traditional costumes. Our very own Bendemeerians also added to the festivities by stepping up as the God of Prosperity and wowing the crowd with a lion dance routine! In addition, the staff had a festive “Lou Hei” in our newly revamped library, basking in the joy of the Chinese New Year holiday!

Total Defence Day

Total Defence Day was celebrated with a bang this year in Bendemeer Secondary School on 15 February 2024 as our nation commemorates 40 Years of Total Defence. In the very first islandwide Total Defence exercise involving food and power disruption simulations, Bendemeer Secondary was one of the forty schools that participated in the food disruption simulation exercise conducted by the Singapore Food Agency (SFA).

The day started off with an engaging and informative assembly programme about the different facets of Total Defence as well as the challenges we face in food security and how food supply disruptions are a reality. At lunchtime, all students and staff enjoyed ready-to-eat meals provided by the SFA as they engaged in discussions on what they know about these scrumptious and nutritious meals. Students learnt about the shelf life and preparation of the ready-toeat meals, Singapore’s multi-pronged strategy to ensure food security and what they can do to overcome food disruptions. We hope that through this experience, students’ confidence in Singapore’s, as well as their own ability to overcome food disruptions has increased.

Purple Parade

Our students took a huge step towards understanding and celebrating differences, by embracing inclusivity together! On 24 October, we kicked off the morning with an inspiring talk by AWWA, focusing on the theme: Accept, Respect, Include, followed by a presentation by our school’s Senior Special Educational Needs Officer, Mdm Charlott Lee, raising awareness about ADHD. Our students participated in thought-provoking activities, from navigating obstacles in wheelchairs to typing with their non-dominant hands while wearing gloves—giving them a powerful glimpse into the daily challenges faced by others. They also made personal pledges, wrote heartfelt messages on the Purple Parade Board, and captured these meaningful moments at the photo booth!

On 1 April, we applauded the Bendemeerians who dared to aspire to take up leading roles in the school. The Student Leaders’ Investiture had our outgoing Student Council President Zafreen address the school, followed by speeches presented by representatives of The Leaders Council, Mikail, Nitish and Hui Ru, and our newly minted Student Council President, Jayden. In addition, we also acknowledged our Class Chairpersons, Peer Support Leaders, Co-Curricular Activities (CCA) leaders and Student Councillors for their dedication, commitment and contributions. All in all, it was indeed a gratifying assembly session honouring our esteemed student leaders.

leads

The Leaders Council (LEADS) which stands for “Lead, Elevate, Adapt, Direct and Serve represents the pinnacle of the BDMS student leadership body. The objective of LEADS is to develop its members into youth leaders of the future. To achieve this, a partnership was formed between the school, CARE Singapore and their industry partners. In August, the BDMS-CARE SG Mentoring Programme was officially launched with a signing ceremony where the various stakeholders from the school, CARE SG partners and students’ families pledged their commitment to the programme. In October and November, our LEADS members played an essential role in the school’s outreach efforts and Open House, engaging primary school students and their parents confidently. They shared about the Bendemeerian Journey and what they could look forward to at Bendemeer Secondary School. They also showcased many key programmes and activities, as well as CCAs that were offered at BDMS to provide a clearer picture of the numerous initiatives we have embarked on. Members of The Leaders Council can indeed hold their heads high as they have made our school proud.

annual speech & Prize Presentation Day

On 26 April, we celebrated Bendemeer Secondary School’s 47th Speech and Prize Presentation Day! With the Chairman of the school’s Alumni, Mr Delane Lim, gracing the occasion as our Guest of Honour, we spent a delightful morning celebrating the achievements of past and present Bendemeerians. At the same time, we extended our appreciation to our distinguished partners for the strong relationships we have established. Apart from outstanding performances from our performing arts groups, the school and our guests also witnessed the official opening of our newly painted Parade Square and a tchoukball exhibition match via a video livestream. The day ended with a reception at our newly renovated library, and our guests were enthralled by the musical talents of our three student performers who gave rousing renditions of nostalgic classics.

annual mass Run

On 3 May, Bendemeer Secondary School held our annual Mass Run at Marina Barrage. Blessed with sunny weather and sightings of two rainbows, our staff, students and even parents from our Parent Support Group (PSG) were able to complete the 3.2 kilometre route with relative ease. It was indeed an eventful way to end the week, as the BDMS family took the opportunity to participate in some physical exercise together!

Passing ouT PaRaDe

It was a significant day on 11 April for our graduating cohort of Uniformed Group (UG) cadets, as it was the last parade they were involved in after serving their units for the past four to five years. Members of the Girl Guides, National Cadet Corps (Land), National Police Cadet Corps and Red Cross Youth practised hard for this Passing-Out Parade (POP) and ended their UG journey on a high note. Thank you for your dedications and contribution!

Racial Harmony Day

On 22 July, we celebrated Racial Harmony Day! During our morning assembly programme, Mdm Karamjit Kaur took us through several important reminders of the need to appreciate and celebrate the unique identity Singapore has, with regard to our rich tapestry of multiple ethnicities and cultures. Mr Lawrence Ng then carried out activities that reinforced our knowledge and understanding of practices across different ethnic groups, with our gung-ho Bendemeerians forming teams that comprised Secondary 1 to 4 students working hand-in-hand together. The rest of the day saw staff and students taking photographs together to commemorate the occasion, acknowledging our cherished friendships amidst our diversity!

national Day Parade Participation & nDP song music video Feature

Many Secondary 2 and Secondary 3 Bendemeerians had the privilege of participating in our nation’s 59th National Day Parade this year, sacrificing many of their Fridays and Saturdays in order to play their parts well. We are extremely grateful for this golden opportunity to contribute to our nation, and it was indeed an enriching experience for all our participants. In addition, we also had the fortune of being featured in the music video of this year’s NDP theme song ‘Not Alone’. What an absolute honour!

national Day Celebrations with PCF sparkleTots

national Day Celebrations

On 8 August, as part of our National Day celebrations, the school spent an hour in the morning playing traditional games in the classrooms. It was indeed heartwarming to witness how so many of our young Bendemeerians were interacting with one another, as well as their teachers and our school’s support staff, totally engrossed in playing games like Five Stones, Chap Teh and Pick Up Sticks! Everyone was participatig actively while NDP songs were playing in the background, indulging in moments of unadulterated joy while cheering one another on.

Some of our loudest cheers during our National Day celebrations were reserved for the adorable little kids from Sparkletots! We were indeed heartened to have our young guests share the stage as they performed the classic ‘Singapore Town’, and this year’s NDP song, ‘Not Alone’. Everyone was applauding and cheering the children on once they started earnestly volunteering their answers for the National Day quiz, and the entire hall showed even more immense support when they went on up on stage! The atmosphere in the school hall was indeed electrifying! Everyone joined in the community singing segment with our guests, with many of us singing our hearts out to favourites like ‘One People, One Nation, One Singapore’ and ‘Stand Up for Singapore’.

staff appreciation Day

On 30 August, the vibrant Bendemeer spirit illuminated our Staff Appreciation Day. Apart from the delightful class parties organised by the students to commemorate this special day, this year, all teaching and non-teaching staff also received Gratitude Cards that contained heartfelt messages submitted by students and fellow staff members. In addition, the concert included many performances that touched everyone’s

graduation Day

On 20 September, our Graduation Ceremony for the Class of 2024 was a celebration of cherished memories and heartfelt gratitude. Each graduand’s growth journey was nurtured by our devoted BDMS family - our dedicated teachers, administrative and support staff, parents and partners - who guided them with care every step of the way. Our Secondary 4 and 5 students took the opportunity to to express their heartfelt thanks to their teachers, and rejoiced in some heartwarming moments that triggered many students’ nostalgia. We were indeed grateful to the PSG for having made hundreds of flower balloon sculptures by hand, and our graduands were also heartened to receive the BDMS school jacket as their graduation gift. Many parents who came that day to witness their children’s graduation also got to enjoy a sumptuous lunch and took the opportunity to capture memories of this milestone at the photobooth!

Deepavali Celebration

Bendemeer Secondary School closed the academic year with a bang, as staff and students celebrated Deepavali in style! Our Tamil Language unit organised a celebration filled with engaging performances and interesting activities, wowing the crowd and attracting both staff and students to participate actively. It was a great way to indulge in some cultural and religious awareness, as we learnt how and why our Hindu friends and other communities welcome their Festival of Lights. It was indeed a delightful way to end the school year, reflecting our multicultural harmony and inclusivity once again.

lunch-Time Concerts

Our fantastic Term 1 ended on a high note, with our talented Bendemeerians singing their hearts out, tinkling on the piano keys and showing off their fancy footwork! We celebrated the end of the term with a lunchtime concert, held at our newly revamped library, much to the joy and delight of staff and students! Throughout the hour, the cosy space was filled with melodious voices and supportive cheers!

On 23 August, we held our second lunchtime concert and were treated to a bigger range of performances, with many Lower Secondary students mustering their courage to perform in front of their peers! It was indeed a great hour spent basking in the sweet melodies produced by our really talented Bendemeerians who were singing their hearts out or playing their instruments to the best of their abilities. We cannot wait for more of such awesome opportunities for staff and students to showcase their talents!

As the Vice President of our school choir, serving as the emcee for the lunchtime concert was both enriching and unforgettable. It was a privilege to host our fellow Bendemeerians, each of whom showcased their diverse talents with unwavering dedication. From soulful ballads to energetic dance routines, each performance radiated passion. I deeply appreciate our school’s commitment to celebrating the talent of students, while also nurturing our individual confidence and self-discovery.

K Levina (4R4)

Parent support group

Our partnership with the Parent Support Group (PSG) has reaped many opportunities over the past year. Bendemeer Secondary School has been blessed with an extremely strong and supportive PSG, with many PSG members participating actively in school activities and playing a significant role in enhancing the educational experience and overall well-being of our students. Apart from taking part in our Annual Mass Run and Speech Day and attending parenting engagement workshops, the PSG also contributed greatly to our BDMS Youth Day celebrations, in conjunction with our Term 3 Let’s BDMS! programme. The PSG brought in takoyaki and churros ‘live’ stations, together with other delectable dishes and desserts, including icy popsicles for everyone at the end of the day. In addition, the PSG also sponsored two photobooths with really fun and unique props, delighting many staff and students who took the opportunity to capture numerous memorable shots, elevating the joyous atmosphere of our first day of school. For Graduation Day, the PSG members painstakingly made hundreds of flower balloon sculptures for our graduating students! In addition, Ms Lee Chin Chin, our PSG Vice-President, also gave very touching and endearing speeches on our school’s Open House to highlight the caring culture of the school to potential students and their parents.

Thank you, esteemed members of the PSG! We are really grateful for such thoughtful and magnanimous gestures!

This year, the Communications & Engagement Committee spent lots of time and effort reaching out to a substantial number of primary schools. Apart from carrying out presentations via Zoom sessions or on site at various schools, we also participated in two primary schools’ secondary school fairs. Through these sessions, school leaders and SMC members engaged the primary school students in informative talks about the BDMS journey, coupled with sharing done by our student leaders and simple CCA showcases performed by our Dance and Band members.

On 8 November, we were also delighted to welcome Primary 6 students from Radin Mas Primary School. Throughout the three hours, they went through different activities that gave them a glimpse of the Bendemeerian experience. Our attentive guests participated actively at the various stations and in the hall segment of the morning’s programme. Our student leaders, and members from various CCAs also contributed greatly in making this such an engaging experience for our friends from Radin Mas Primary School.

open House

On 23 November, Bendemeer Secondary School held our annual Open House. The Saturday morning saw hundreds of visitors flock to our school premises, and staff and students welcomed all of them with open arms! Apart from informative talks and energetic performances, there were plenty of hands-on activities at the various booths for our visitors to get a taste of the Bendemeer Journey! Many meaningful and delightful connections were made with P6 students and their parents, and all our students present played their roles as ambassadors of the school extremely well by engaging them confidently and respectfully. We are thankful for the time and effort put in by all our staff and students, as well as our PSG ViceChairperson, Ms Lee Chin Chin, who played an important role in reaching out to our visitors with her earnest and sincere speech about our school.

staff engagement activities

Throughout the year, the BDMS family has had many different opportunities to be involved in staff-bonding activities and professional development. The Staff Wellbeing Committee has put in place monthly birthday celebrations and organised various fun games and activities for staff members to interact and connect with one another. From working out together doing yoga, Zumba and dance aerobics to enjoying one another’s company during our staff fruit party session, it is always heartening to notice how the BDMS staff culture remains strong. Apart from regular professional learning sessions in school, staff also participate actively during the School Manage Committee and Staff Engagement retreat sessions in November, as well as during learning journeys to different industries.

On 21 November, the staff enjoyed a cosy and sumptuous lunch at one of the ballrooms in Grand Copthorne Waterfront Hotel. What made the event extra special was that all departments dressed up accordingly to the movie theme that they had selected, taking care to wear outfits that would symbolise the characters in the movie. Moreover, each group put up an entertaining performance that highlighted the theme, from zesty dances like ‘We’re All in This Together’ and ‘APT’ to skits that showcased the Super Mario world and Squid Game. It was an unforgettable way to end the busy school year indeed!

Additionally, our graduating classes received valuable instruction in a Study Skills workshop, equipping them with essential tools for academic success.

Term 2

Term 2 began on a high note, with the guiding principle, Dare to Aspire, as our theme. Our morning Assembly programme had a few students bravely participating in a fun ‘Minute To Win It’ game, before we had the delight of having a Secondary 4 student, Guo Yingjie of 4R6, and three alumni members - Vanessa, Kabilan and Eiswari - address us. It was indeed an enriching experience listening to how they have pursued their dreams by overcoming different challenges and remaining steadfast in their aspirations. After this assembly programme, our students then partook in the level activities planned for them, including learning journeys to polytechnics and other ECG efforts.

Our Term 3 ‘Let’s BDMS!’ programme started with an interactive sketch entitled ‘Crow Boy’, a tender story which reminded us about the importance of tolerating and respecting individual differences. The assembly programme, in celebration of Youth Day, then featured a martial arts display and a song performance by staff and students. It was a great way to start an exciting morning, and the school compound was abuzz with cheers and laughter as our Secondary 2 and 3 students participated in Bubble Soccer and Laser Tag matches. In addition, our Secondary One students embarked on a learning journey to Bird Paradise, while our graduating students made their way to River Wonders, S.E.A. Aquarium Sentosa and Jewel Changi Airport in different groups for fun-filled cohort bonding activities. Furthermore, the Breakfast with Parents and photobooths, courtesy of our generous Parent Support Group, added much joy to the atmosphere of our Youth Day celebrations!

assembly Programmes

Throughout the year, the weekly assembly programmes continued to provide lots of informative knowledge and joyful learning experiences. Many students also had the opportunity to take the lead during presentations to the entire school, and participated actively in the various programmes prepared for them. Whether carried out by external vendors or organised by the Total Curriculum committee, these assembly sessions in the school hall came alive on Monday mornings, a great way to start the week by engaging the entire school population. These lively sessions were complemented by several activities organised by different departments throughout the year and displays of students’ works at the school foyer. On many Friday mornings, we took the opportunity to celebrate our students’ successes and motivate one another during competition seasons for our various CCA groups. We also made it a point to end each semester together as a school in the hall, revelling in the joyous atmosphere and cheering one another on with applause and ice cream treats!

after-school engagement (ase) Programme

The After-School Engagement (ASE) programme is designed to provide enriching learning experiences and developmental opportunities for selected students, addressing their social, moral, aesthetic, and physical needs. By participating in the wide range of activities offered, students enhanced their socio-emotional competencies, discovered their strengths and interests, and improved their social skills through collaborative group work.

From Mondays to Thursdays, youth workers and counsellors from CARE Singapore led project-based activities tailored to the students’ needs, fostering positive relationships along the way. This close-knit team, including ASE teachers, school counsellors, and student welfare officers, worked together to provide students with the guidance and support they needed.

In 2024, students participated in a variety of activities, including external workshops such as baking classes and business management for running a thrift store. They were also rewarded with engaging outings to places like Superpark, Escape Room,

Hub to relax and enjoy a variety of recreational games with their friends. In addition to casual hangouts, friendly competitions, such as the Badminton Challenge and International Chess Competition,

education & Career guidance (eCg) efforts

In 2024, the CCE department expanded the various Education and Career Guidance (ECG) programmes across all levels throughout the year. In addition to learning journeys and attending Open Houses at educational institutions, Bendemeerians have also been exposed to informative talks and workshops carried out by our esteemed partners.

In January, a group of our Secondary 4 students participated in a work attachment programme for two weeks. During that time, they were attached to different industries and gained valuable experiences while they explored their interests and learnt the value of discipline and hard work.

In May, our Secondary 2 students held their Applied Learning Module (ApLM) showcase. With much fervour, they presented their prototypes and experiences they gained during the four-day module they had gone through. Visitors to the Level 2 classrooms were rewarded with enthusiastic presenters who shared the knowledge they learned from their modules in Business and Entrepreneurship, Early Childhood Education, Sustainability, Sports and Wellness, Biotechnology and Healthcare, Technology and Innovation, Hospitality and Tourism, and Aeronautics.

C.l.a.P.s

Through various experiences and approaches, our termly C.L.A.P.S Programme seeks to develop our students holistically in the 5 domains: Cognitive, Leadership, Aesthetics and Cultural, Physical and Socio-Emotional Mental Well-being. It is our hope that these programmes would uplift the total learning experiences for our students, develop in our students’ 21st Century Competencies and instill self and school pride.

secondary 1 Cohort Camp

Our Secondary 1 Camp ran from 13 to 15 May, concluding on a high note after three fun-filled days. Students gained valuable collaborative and leadership skills through activities like teambuilding games, rock climbing, dragon boating, and human foosball. The youngest members of our Bendemeer family fostered a strong sense of unity and camaraderie. A highlight of the camp was dinner on the second day, where students enjoyed a memorable experience learning to cook outdoors for their classmates and teachers. It was a wonderful camp filled with high spirits and growth!

appreciation Day

On 23 October, our Secondary 1 classes dedicated their time and effort to making the morning an extremely meaningful one for Bendemeer Secondary School’s non-teaching staff. It was the annual Appreciation Day, and all our Secondary 1 students devoted their energy into celebrating our everyday heroes and heroines. There were simple yet engaging performances, coupled with fun and interactive games, in each classroom. Thank you, Bendemeerians, for demonstrating what it is to express gratitude to our uncles and aunties who work so hard to look after us each and every single day!

secondary 3 Cohort Camp

Our Secondary 3 cohort had a blast over three days and two nights, from 13 to 15 May, at the signature Secondary 3 Outdoor Camp at Sentosa! Soaking in the sun and sea, our young ladies and gentlemen learned abseiling, rock climbing, and kayaking, along with other team-building activities. A big shoutout to the amazing cohort for their strong spirit and camaraderie, especially at the campfire! We love the infectious school spirit demonstrated by our Secondary 3 students!

myRiaD oF aCTiviTies

Our mid-year and year-end C.L.A.P.S. programmes provided lots of fun and exciting opportunities for our Secondary 1, Secondary 2 and Secondary 3 Bendemeerians. With a suite of activities planned to build our students’ cognitive, leadership, aesthetics, physical, and social-emotional domains, Bendemeerians had an exhilarating time participating in post-exam activities like hip hop dance, sand art animation and 3D printing. They also embarked on learning journeys to expand their knowledge and appreciate the diverse cultures in Singapore. In fact, our energetic Secondary 3 students who took part in the dance module even put up an excellent performance on the every last day of school!

In the physical domain, our Secondary 1 students had fun learning the techniques of Kin Ball, while the Secondary 2 students gained more exposure to in-line skating, archery and bowling. Apart from inter-class games, our Secondary 3 students also bonded with their teachers and classmates while hiking along the Rail Corridor, enjoying the scenery and precious quality time spent with one another.

In addition, Bendemeerians also got to enrich themselves in other ways that supported their learning in the cognitive domain. Going on a Math trail at Marina Barrage and visiting the Science Centre definitely increased their knowledge on various subject matters, while the Science workshops, STEAM Challenge and Sustainability workshops exposed them to different critical ways of thinking. Our Secondary 2 students also underwent a programme to gain more insights on various issues dealing with financial literacy.

All in all, Bendemeerians have really managed to indulge in the joy of learning while interacting with their peers, teachers and facilitators during our carefully curated C.L.A.P.S. programmes in May and October.

s5 Cluster overseas i m mersion Programme to suzhou, China

A total of 34 students and 4 teachers from Bendemeer Secondary School, St Andrew’s Secondary School and St Joseph’s Institution represented the S5 cluster in an Overseas Immersion Programme to Suzhou, China, from 26 May to 1 June 2024. Our school was represented by ten Secondary 3 students led by Mr Tay Guangyu.

Our students had opportunities to deepen their global awareness and cross-cultural knowledge through interactions with students and staff from Suzhou Junior High School and Dongshahu Experimental Middle School. They experienced how lessons were conducted in the schools and participated in their sports and arts programmes such as Chinese Martial Arts and Lithography.

The trip to Suzhou, China, significantly broadened my understanding of the world beyond Singapore, especially regarding import industries and education. I will cherish this experience, particularly the moments spent exploring the city, taking photos, and shopping with my peers. These memories will remain with me for a lifetime to hold.

My recent trip overseas to China was very eye-opening. I experienced a completely different culture, tried new foods, and met amazing people. It really opened my eyes to how diverse the world is. Travelling helped me appreciate the beauty of exploring new places and made me excited to learn more about other cultures.

Nitish Anant Karnik (3R1)

Students were exposed to Chinese culture, history and heritage through visits to cultural and historical landmarks such as the Master of Nets Garden, Suzhou Imperial Bricks Museum and Tiger Hill. They also experienced tea leaves picking at Wangshan village and did a hike in the bamboo forest. The students got to develop their artistic talents when they sat by the river along Shan Tang Street and sketched the beautiful scenery there.

There were also industrial visits to GCL Technologies and DNA Learning Centre in Suzhou Industrial Park and a ride on the Maglev train where students learnt about how sustainability and innovation have revolutionised lives in China.

All in all, it was a fruitful trip for both students and teachers as we got to learn more about China and what it has to offer to the world through this Overseas Immersion Programme.

secondary 2 Cohort Trip to Johor Bahru, malaysia

On 16 October, our Secondary 2 Bendemeerians from 2R2, 2R4, 2R5 and 2R6 went on the inaugural Sec 2 cohort trip to Johor Bahru, Malaysia. A few days later, on 22 October, students from 2R1, 2R3, 2R7 and 2R8 embarked on the second part of the trip. Students, and teachers alike, had a delightful time bonding while immersing themselves in the rich tapestry of Malaysia’s culture and traditions. The blazing hot weather did not deter our Bendemeerians from having a great time outdoors, harvesting vegetables and learning more about extracting honey from stingless bees. They also went through interesting activities that exposed them to cultural practices in Malaysia, and had a genuinely good time having some time for unstructured play. As part of the school’s CLAPS! programme, this trip was an enriching and eye-opening experience for our students.

seConDaRy 3 CoHoRT TRiP to Ho Chi minh city, vietnam

From 21 to 25 November, a group of Secondary 3 students embarked on an overseas immersion trip to Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, and spent five wonderful days indulging in various experiences that opened their eyes and minds to broader horizons. With a carefully planned itinerary, our Bendemeerians were exposed to many enriching activities and interactions. From school and industry visits to first-hand experiences with the local culture, this journey allowed our staff and student participants to soak in exquisite tastes of the city.

Being in the Infocomm Club has been an awesome adventure! I’ve learned cool skills like coding and flying of drones. I also became the unofficial school photographer!

The highlight of my CCA was training my peers and juniors. We learn, we laugh, and we grow togetherultimately becoming better at what we do. Infocomm Club has shaped my leadership skills, and I wouldn’t trade this journey for anything else!

The Infocomm Club, as a dynamic and technology-driven Co-Curricular Activity (CCA), has taken part in many engaging events, empowering its members in areas such as programming, digital media, game development, and tech-driven problem-solving.

The various events included the Drones Odyssey Challenge where the Secondary 1 and 2 members explored drone technology; the Singapore National Digital Explorer (NDE) programme where our students created applications to address community needs and promote positive societal changes. Infocomm Club members also learnt the basics of game development using a coding platform used in the industry.

In addition to digital and technical training, Infocomm Club members also supported key school events by managing the audio-visual setup. That included celebrations and ceremonies such as Chinese New Year, Deepavali, Hari Raya, Speech Day, Teachers’ Day and Youth Day. Their support has ensured the smooth execution of each event and heightened the audience’s enjoyment.

This year, I have had many great experiences in Infocomm Club. One of them was managing the PA system for special events like the National Day and Teachers’ Day celebrations. Being involved backstage during these events has allowed me to appreciate the hard work put in by the performers and the crew. It has also taught me to better manage stressful situations. Managing the PA system has also allowed me to forge great memories with my peers and build strong bonds with my my fellow members.

Being in Infocomm Club, I had the privilege of participating in many competitions and activities, such as the National Youth Tech Championship and the AWS Python Accelerato. Through these programmes, I not only learnt useful technical competencies, but also gained valuable skills such as teamwork and effective communication. I was also given many opportunities to hone my leadership skills and I am incredibly grateful for these opportunities.

Our students’ involvement in Modern Dance has made their school lives more vibrant this year. To kick off the academic year, we took part in the ‘Welcome Back to School’ performance, showcasing our energy and talent. During Speech Day, selected Modern Dance members delivered inspiring performances, enhancing the atmosphere of the event.

A standout moment this year was the National Day celebration, where a selected group of dancers represented the school in a national tribute and performed with pride. To show gratitude to the school staff, our dancers also put together a memorable performance for Teachers’ Day.

These events not only allowed our members to showcase their talents but also fostered teamwork, creativity and leadership skills.

My time in Modern Dance has been an amazing experience. We are often encouraged to be creative and to work together. Each CCA session brings joy and teaches us to express ourselves through movement. We also support each other in every way possible. I’m grateful for the friendships and wonderful memories we’ve created on this journey.

As the President of Modern Dance CCA, I am proud to lead a talented team. As a team, we work on fostering unity and growth. Through the rehearsals and performances, we have become a family. I have also gained invaluable leadership skills, confidence, and lifelong memories. I’m grateful and proud of what we have achieved and look forward to our journey ahead.

Bendemeer Concert Band continued our journey towards excellence with inspiring practice sessions and fulfilling performances in 2024.

The highlight for the band was our participation in the Asia Pacific Band Festival 2024, where we attained the Gold award. This was a strong affirmation of our efforts and musical excellence.

In August 2024, selected members of the band were invited to perform with members of the Singapore Symphony Orchestra (SSO) at the Temasek Foundation × SSO National Day Concert 2024. Valuable learning took place as our members engaged in rigorous training sessions with the professional musicians.

We first welcomed our Secondary 1 students at the start of the year. Their progress was demonstrated during their recital, which was showcased in Semester 2.

In 2024, the band contributed to the joyous atmosphere during school events, including Speech Day 2024, Chinese New Year and Teachers’ Day celebrations.

The year concluded with our Open House performance in November 2024. As the band intensifies its practice sessions in preparation for the Singapore Youth Festival Arts Presentation 2025, we look forward to growing from strength to strength and striving for excellent results.

Students from the Drama Tamil CCA had a vibrant and eventful year, representing the school in various performances and competitions. They showcased their talents in a captivating dance performance during Speech Day and also represented the school for Racial Harmony Day at Kolam Ayer Community Club.

As part of their cultural learning, they participated in an enriching Parai workshop, immersing themselves in traditional Tamil drumming, which they later showcased during the school’s Deepavali Celebration.

Their hard work and dedication paid off at the Navarasam Competition, where they attained third place in the Drama segment and second place in the Dance segment. Additionally, at the prestigious Tamil Drama Festival, one of their own proudly earned the Best Actress award. All these achievements highlight the passion and skills of the students.

The Tamil Drama CCA is more than just a CCA to me; it’s like one big family working together to bring pride to the school. I love how we not only perform dramas but also dance and celebrate our Tamil culture, which is something not often seen in other schools. All in all, I have forged close bonds and unforgettable memories over these past two years.

We started the year with Secondary 1 Orientation, where auditions were conducted by our student leaders themselves. Kudos to them! They engaged the Secondary 1 students who actively participated in the improv activities.

In April, our graduating seniors performed two short plays on the newly refurbished library stage. We also performed during the school’s Speech Day where we showed the importance to ‘Dare to Aspire’ despite setbacks. We were nervous but managed to put up a creditable performance.

In Drama CCA, I am often encouraged to step out of my comfort zone with confidence by the teachers, instructors and friends. Drama - English is a place where I can feel comfortable acting and trying new things. One of the most memorable moments was preparing for the performance for Speech Day. That was my first time acting on stage. At first, I wasn’t really sure that I was a good fit for acting, but over time, with the support of my club members and teachers, I became more comfortable and confident in performing. I am glad that the performance was a success.

Vivian Ho (3R1)

In July, the CCA members went on a learning journey and watched Titoudao, a deeply emotional play that depicted the struggles of a wayang performer, Oon Ah Chiam. As performers ourselves, the passion and professionalism of the actors inspired us to pursue the same level of excellence in our own journey. As the year progressed, we put up short skits to apply what we learnt.

To celebrate Teachers’ Day, we stepped out of our comfort zones by presenting a choral reading performance with performative elements, titled “Happy Teachers’ Day”. It was an original work written by our members. Through this, we expressed our gratitude and appreciation for our teachers. All of us contributed to the success - with the ensemble delivering their lines, actors bringing the scenes to life, and crew members managing the props and music. Everything went smoothly and everyone enjoyed the performance.

Looking back, 2024 has been an enriching and memorable year. We look forward to more opportunities to hone our skills, strengthen our bonds and welcome the next batch of Secondary 1 students.

Limthanarkhom Patchara (3R1)

The School Choir had a productive year in 2024, marked by a range of activities that not only showcased our members’ talent, but also fostered learning, teamwork and growth.

We kicked off the year with the Secondary 1 Orientation in January to recruit new members to join our family. In February, we performed traditional Chinese New Year (CNY) songs in the CNY concert, adding to the festive atmosphere. In April, our performance at the Speech Day concert showcased our hard work and dedication, and we received positive feedback from the audience. To strengthen bonds among the members and improve performance techniques and confidence, all of the members took part in a choir camp in May.

Our participation in the National Day Parade 2024 allowed the Choir members to contribute to the celebration. In September, the Choir took part in the Voices of Singapore Festival, which provided a platform for our members to learn from other choirs and broaden their exposure.

Throughout the year, our regular training sessions focused on enhancing the members’ singing techniques, skills and repertoires. With the Singapore Youth Festival Arts Presentation taking place in 2025, preparation has already commenced.

The choir looks forward to the challenges and opportunities in 2025 and will continue to strive for excellence.

It has been a very exciting year for the Bendemeer Secondary 1st Coy Girl Guides. It was quite a journey with many memorable moments for the girls.

We started the year by celebrating our annual World Thinking Day (WTD) with Girl Guides Singapore (GGS) family in February. With this year’s theme of ‘Our World, Our Thriving Future’, the massive event was held at Our Tampines Hub. The girls enjoyed participating in the wide range of games and activities, collecting stamps at the various booths. They definitely enjoyed the positive vibes and made many new friends from other schools.

Being a Girl Guides leader has enabled me to be more responsible, flexible, adaptable and manage my time better. I also learnt to plan activities for CCA sessions and camps. I get to participate in different workshops, events and courses and meet guides from other schools. We also get to earn different badges after doing activities. The events are truly memorable to me and they form an important part of my experience and memory of my secondary school life.

Goh Si Xuan (3R4) (Assistant Company Leader)

Another annual event that the girls participated in this year was the Uniformed Groups (UG) Hike. This year we took a different route by walking through Coney Island. The girls enjoyed the hike as they got to immerse themselves in nature and enjoy the scenic views.

In April, the girls were busy preparing for South Division Day organised by Girl Guides HQ. They participated in various competitions. We were proud to be the winning team for ‘With Bags Will Travel’ competition. Malya, Linda, Sarisha and Minipun did an excellent job by working together to create a bag out of recycled clothes and materials.

Just before the girls had their June holidays, they had an exciting time being involved in the dragon boat team building activity together with other uniformed groups. We then ended the school holidays with our annual outdoor camp at Camp Christine which was the highlight for the girls. The 2-day-1-night camp saw the girls bonding over activities such as tent-pitching, Baden-Powell ECO Challenge, outdoor cooking and campfire.

In July, with a heavy heart, the unit had to bid our farewell to one of our guiders, Ms Caroline Murthy, as she retired. We wrapped up the year by learning to make ice-cream using milk and ice. Everyone enjoyed their ice-cream with various toppings provided and ended on a high.

This year, I attended the Unit Leadership Programme. Before going, I was unsure about the standards I needed to uphold as the newly-appointed Vice President of Red Cross Youth. However, after attending the camp, I have learnt what it means to be a leader. Additionally, I gained valuable knowledge about the Red Cross and developed stronger bonds with others. I also overcame my fear of public speaking and made new friends.

One of the most memorable experiences this year would be the VIA project at St Andrews Nursing Home. Before I went there, I thought about how I was to talk to the elderly there and if I would be able to tell that the elderly had a happy experience with my unit. When my unit was singing the song “Chan Mali Chan”, the elderly were also singing along with us. I won the Kahoot quiz for the elderly I paired up with. It was a fun and interactive experience.

Thilagar Bhavan (2R3)

This year, our Secondary One cadets had their initiation ceremony on World Red Cross Day. It was meaningful as we had the graduating Secondary Four cadets pin on the enrolment pins for their Secondary One juniors. Khan Sabeil Alli, Vice President of the unit, also received the prestigious Director’s Award for his contribution to the unit and exemplary leadership qualities. We are happy that our hard work paid off as we received the Unit Excellence Award Gold for the year of 2023.

Another exciting competition that we train hard for every year is the First Aid Championship. The First Aid Championships is an annual platform for Red Cross Youth members to hone and showcase their readiness during emergencies. This competition enhances the preparedness and proficiency of first aid skills in our cadets and strengthens the role of youths as First Aid responders in our community. In addition, our Vice President, V. M. Gyan, proudly represented Bendemeer Secondary School as part of the Red Cross Youth marching contingent for the National Day Parade this year. Always looking for opportunities to contribute to the community, the Red Cross Unit partnered with St Andrew’s Nursing Home and spread joy to the elderly with some National Day activities prepared for them. It was truly a meaningful and enriching experience for our students.

2024 was yet another exciting year for our cadets! It was a year packed with camps. Secondary 1 and 3 cadets had their unit camp in school, while the Secondary 2 cadets had theirs at Pulau Ubin. The camps were packed with exciting yet challenging activities, from outdoor games to survival skills. Some of the highlights of the camps were dragon boating at Kallang Basin, hiking from the school to Vivocity, and participating in the outreach programme at Sentosa.

These experiences pushed our cadets out of their comfort zone and taught them to think on their feet. Cadets learnt how to work with others, communicate effectively, and rely on each other’s strengths to achieve a common goal. These are valuable skills that translate into life-long competencies, ultimately benefitting the cadets beyond the CCA.

In my first year in NPCC, I enjoyed the UG hike as I got to know my squad-mates better, understanding their personalities and traits. The hike also pushed me towards my limits. Thankfully, encouragement from each other in the squad, we completed the hike together. The experience taught me that with determination, nothing is impossible. This event was a memorable one and I am excited for the next one!

2024 has been a rewarding year for Bendemeer NCC (Land) unit. We obtained Distinction for our annual Unit Recognition in 2023. This is a testament to the hard work and commitment put in by our teacher officers, cadet officers, specialists and cadets.

For the past year, I have really enjoyed my time here in NCC. I got to go on learning journeys and hikes with my fellow cadets. I got to learn new things in NCC which are useful for my time in National Service. Through NCC, I have learnt to become more responsible.

PTE Muhammad Rais Aryan (1C2)

We continued to challenge our cadets and build a resilient spirit in them with a wide range of activities throughout the year. We started the year with a combined Uniform Groups (UG) hike along Punggol Promenade Nature Walk and Coney Island. This was followed by a Dragon Boat Orientation Programme in May. These activities challenged our cadets both mentally and physically and gave them a sense of accomplishment at the end. To develop teamwork and leadership in our cadets, they were given opportunities to participate in activities such as Laser Tag and Escape Room. Our teacher officers joined our cadets in these activities and bonded with them.

This year, MSG Arrian represented the unit to be a part of the NCC Marching Contingent at this year’s National Day Parade. He also represented our unit and joined cadets from other schools to scale Mount Ophir. In February, our Freestyle Drills team gave an impressive performance at the Annual Freestyle Drills Competition at Anglican High School.

We are proud of the effort put in by teacher officers and cadets in 2024 and we look forward to a more fruitful year in 2025.

Our B Division Boys displayed grit and resilience to clinch the championship position in the 2nd Active SG-TBAS Inter-Schools Championships. Our C Division Boys also played their hearts out to achieve 3rd position in the same competition.

I have been playing tchoukball for more than a year now and I have developed the core values required in tchoukball. This year, I took up the challenge of being the school’s C Division Girls’ Tchoukball Captain, with the responsibility of making sure that the team is ready for the game and to be a role model for the team. It also gives me the opportunity to hone my leadership skills.

Raeanne Sng Yi Tong (2R4)

The B and C Division Girls fought hard and motivated one another through some tough and exciting matches. Although we tried our best, we eventually missed out on the semi-finals.

On the international scene, Rayvien, Dylan, Ryan, Yong Jay, Davies, Umi, Ding Xiang, Xanthea, Javian and Rasyiqah represented Singapore and clinched the silver medal for the team at the Asia Pacific Youth Tchoukball Championships 2024 in Johor, Malaysia.

We are proud of the Tchoukball team. We will continue to grow stronger and stay united. We wish our players all the best in 2025!

Always remember our Tchoukball Team Motto: “Respect All, Fear None”.

The Football CCA has excelled in zonal and national competitions over the last few years. A spirit of sporting excellence has been imbued in the boys through the training sessions planned by the coaches and teachers.

I feel that the Football CCA training sessions and matches have brought the team closer together and strengthened our bond. We are like a family. In addition, throughout the National School Games, we developed discipline and learnt to keep striving even if things may not be in our favour.

Our B Division Boys overcame the odds to clinch the championship title in League 2. In addition, our C Division Boys emerged as quarterfinalists in League 1, placing them among the top eight teams nationwide!

In 2025, both teams will make history by competing together in League 1 for the first time — a significant milestone for our CCA. This success is a testament to the dedication, teamwork, and resilience of our players and coaches.

Congratulations to our teams for this milestone! We wish to thank everyone who has supported us along the way. We look forward to reaching new heights in 2025!

The Taekwondo CCA had an exciting and rewarding year in 2024, achieving significant milestones. At the National School Games 2024, our C Division Boys Poomsae Team (Green 6) secured 3rd place (Bronze), with members, Juno Alexander Pope (2R4), Muhammad Salman Bin Osman (2R1), and Tan Shi Feng (2R3).

In the B Division, the Girls Poomsae Team (Blue 3) clinched 4th place (Bronze), with team members comprising of Wong Man Sam Dareen (4R4), Wong Shi Ting Alisa (3R5), and Elengoven Sansi (4R5). The B Division Girls Poomsae Team (Poom 2) brought home a remarkable 2nd place (Silver), represented by Cerina Kuit Yu Ping (4R7), Tan Xin Hui Tricia (4R2), and Goh Yun Xuan (3R4).

At the Whampoa Taekwondo Championship 2024, the team shone again, earning 3 Gold, 4 Silver, and 3 Bronze across 8 categories, and emerging as the Overall Youth Champion First Runner-up.

Over the past three years in Taekwondo, I have developed both my skills and character. Being a leader has taught me responsibility and how to guide others effectively. Although the journey has been challenging, it has been rewarding, pushing me to grow stronger in discipline, teamwork, and perseverance.

Koh Yu Yang (3R1) (Vice-Captain)

In Secondary 1, I joined Taekwondo and it has been a great learning experience. I have learnt techniques like kicking and patterns, and I’ve made new friends along the way. The most important lesson I have gained is the value of teamwork. Balancing my CCA with studies is challenging, but it has taught me how to manage my time effectively. I am excited to continue improving!

This year, the school’s Cross Country team faced unprecedented challenges when former coach, Mr. S. Pandian, could not continue his service due to unforeseen circumstances. However, the team continues to strive on with much guidance from our Vice-Principal, Mr Azman, and two of our alumni, Coaches Kabilan and Lionel. Several members took the initiative to train on their own during weekends.

The 200m sprint was an impactful event for me as it inspired me to do better. Initially, making it to the semi-final round was unexpected as I did not feel prepared. However, with my teachers’ and fellow teammates’ encouragement, I managed to qualify for the semi-finals. I shall strive on and hope I could qualify for the final round next year.

Sadayan Haaron Ahmed (3R1)

Hence, the team was still able to participate in the WINGS-ActiveSG Cross Country Championships, the National School Games Cross Country and the National Track and Field Championships. Several members managed to compete in at least one event, which inspired them to train hard for their individual and team goals. Eight boys managed to compete in the semi-final round for the B Division Boys 4x100m Relay in the National Track and Field Championships.
