3rd annual D-Feet Hearing Loss walk set for June 1

BEMIDJI — Bemidji’s third annual D-Feet Hearing Loss walk to benefit the Minnesota Lions Hearing Foundation is set for Saturday, June 1, at Diamond Point Park. Registration for the two-mile walk will begin at 8:30 a.m., with the walk set for 9:30. The route will follow the sidewalk from the Diamond Point Park pavilion to Paul and Babe and back.

After the walk, participants will be given lunch and entertained by live music and games for kids, a release said.

The cost to participate is $25 per person without a T-shirt, or $35 to receive an event T-shirt, with funds raised going to support University of Minnesota research and the establishment of several programs to help with hearing loss.

“A current focus is to help those who may not even know they have a hearing problem no matter their age,” the release said. “The Minnesota Hearing Foundation made Minnesota the first state in the country to screen newborn babies for hearing problems in all hospitals. At the other end of the age spectrum, because research has found that as people get older hearing loss can contribute to dementia, the Foundation is pursuing an affordable portable hearing screening device in the hope that screenings can be done at local community events and schools.”

We’re excited to announce that nominations for Feel The Love are officially open! Feel The Love is now sponsored by the LII Lennox Foundation, continuing our mission to provide comfort and support to those in need within our communities.

Each year, Lennox partners with HVAC dealers throughout the United States and Canada to provide heating or cooling systems to individuals who consistently put others before themselves and need a helping hand.

Before we can shine the spotlight on deserving recipients, we need your nominations! Help us honor your hometown heroes by sharing their stories of selflessness, community support, or resilience in the face of adversity.

How does the program work?

1. Community Nominates. People like you across the country recognize deserving individuals and families in their hometowns by nominating them to receive new heating or cooling systems.

2. Selections are Made. After receiving all of the nominations, we honor select recipients with new heating or cooling equipment. Oftentimes, these people lack the means to make their homes more comfortable on their own, but we believe that everyone should feel safe and comfortable in their home.

3. Dealers Spread the Love. During the second week in October, Lennox works with Higgins Heating to give back to these selected heroes by gifting them with a much-needed upgrade to their furnace.

Nominees will be notified in September and installations will take place October 5 – 12, 2024. Send your nomination to Higgins Heating at Higgins@PaulBunyan.net by August 31, 2024.

NELL to host ‘Operation D-Day’ program

BAGLEY — NELL, in collaboration with the Bagley Public Library, will host Arn Kind’s presentation, “Operation D-Day,” at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 8, at Bagley

American Legion, 112 Main Ave. N.

The program, held in honor of the 80th anniversary of the Normandy Invasion, will feature a presentation by Minnesotan historian and educator Arn Kind on Operation D-Day, the date when the allied nations launched Operation Overlord, the surprise invasion of France.

Kind will bring history alive with a realistic portrayal of the invasion, which was accomplished by thousands of intrepid young American, British and Canadian soldiers parachuting out of the sky behind enemy lines and wading through heavy surf onto the beaches of Normandy, a release said.

The program is free due in part to funding from the Minnesota Arts and Cultural Heritage Legacy fund and sponsorship by the Lake Agassiz

Regional Library. Bemidji Public Library, BCHS to host folk music event

The event is free and open to the public, and it will also be live-streamed on the Bemidji Public

Library Facebook page. This program is made possible through the Minnesota Legacy Amendment which supports the arts, culture, and heritage of Minnesota.
