WELCOME
Welcome to our 2025 Sale offering
Once again the year is racing by and we find sale time upon us. A bull only draft, we are presenting our 2023 spring born bulls and the picks from our 2024 autumn born program to the market. There are some new genetics scattered throughout this year’s catalogue amongst progeny by some of our tried and proven sires.
Although our sale is out of season for most, we do strongly feel there is a great deal of benefit to securing breeding bulls well in advance of the demanding spring joining. The bulls are lightly finished, to show potential whilst not affecting fertility and longevity. They have been asked to pass semen testing at a young age and this should flow onto future females retained by these bulls. And finally, having the bulls home well in advance to joining allows them to acclimatise and recover from any stress that travel, a change in diet and environment may place on them.
Constantly trying to achieve the balance in our breeding, we have a heavy focus on carcass traits whilst retaining a fertile and functional female. With temperament and structural correctness non negotiables, this year’s bulls are a product of these fundamentals.
There are a few less individual photos in this catalogue. Although we like having content available early for clients to look and sort through, the bulls, particularly the yearlings, really do hit another gear as the sale date gets closer. So please if you don’t already, follow us on our socials as we will post regularly there in the sale lead up to show how they are looking. The individual videos of each lot will be available by early June. If you would like further information or images on any bull in particular, feel free to ask.
The auction this year will open online 2 days prior on June 18th. We are trialling this in an effort to provide some security to those that can only join online and have unreliable or unpredictable connections. These bids are completely silent, the Stocklive representative will use them on sale day only increasing from the vendors reserve as bids from the floor or other online bids come in. If you have any queries as to how this works please call Kate at Stocklive (details on the sale information page). There is a pre-bidding instruction page included in this catalogue.
There were many great highlights from last year, but seeing buyers return and trusting in our program is certainly one that takes some beating. We hope to see many familiar faces this year amongst a few fresh ones and invite you to arrange a private visit to inspect the cattle prior to sale day if you prefer to view them in the paddock.
We hope this finds you well and enjoying a good season,
Trevor & Colleen & the extended Belview family

We typically sell into vast areas of NSW and central and northern Queensland. We aim to work with clients and carriers to help coordinate freight options to get cattle to their new homes.
SALE DAY SAFETY
Safety is paramount and although all stock on property are scrutinized for temperament, the foreign sale day experience may cause animals to act out of character. Entry into sale pens is at your own risk and we ask that children, adolescents and those with reduced mobility do not enter the pens. If you choose to enter the pens please be mindful of your safety and respectful of the animals.

HERD HEALTH
VACCINATIONS
The following vaccination courses have been administered to the Bulls:
• 7-1
• Vibrio
• 3 day sickness (U bulls given December 2024, V bulls given February 2025)
• Pestigard
• 3 germ blood for tick fever (given December 2024 to all bulls)
• Botulism long range
We recommend annual boosters of Vibrio, 7-1 and Pestigard vaccines prior to joining each year. Please contact us if you have any further questions regarding our vaccination program.
SEMEN & SOUNDNESS
Our bulls all undergo a Veterinary Bull Breeding Soundness Exam by Dr Mathew Verri, an accredited cattle veterinarian from the Inverell Veterinary Clinic. This exam includes a structural and reproductive soundness evaluation, scrotal measurement, semen density and motility testing and a morphology assessment. All bulls offered for sale are expected to pass a crushside assessment. Details will be included in supplementary information sheets closer to sale day and certificates can be forwarded upon request. We recommend that you monitor and check your bulls during the breeding seasons and have an annual semen test performed prior to each breeding season to identify any problems should they be present prior to joining.
A note on Morphology
Rising 2 year olds will require a qualified pass or better to be offered for sale. Some of the yearling bulls may not get there prior to the sale due to their age. They are tested at 13-15 months and still have some maturing to do.
It is recommended that bulls with a qualified pass on morphology not be used as a single sire mating for that period. The results are likely to change with subsequent evaluations so it is worth rechecking morphology results
as your bulls age. For semen collection and use in AI programs bulls require a morphology pass. Our morphology samples are examined by accredited morphologists Dr Greg Powell and Dr Mathew Verri of the Inverell Veterinary Clinic.
FERTILITY GUARANTEE
Every effort is made prior to sale to ensure soundness and fertility. Should an animal be proven infertile or incapable of natural breeding within 12 months of the sale a comparable replacement or credit minus the salvage value will be offered. Please make claims in writing within 12 months of the sale accompanied by a certificate from a registered veterinarian stating the nature of the problem and prognosis if relevant.
Please note this guarantee excludes costs associated with expenses, interest or damages. Injury or loss due to accident, illness, misadventure or negligence is not covered by this guarantee.
Please monitor your animals during breeding season and if you suspect any issues don’t hesitate to contact us to discuss your concerns.
BIOSECURITY
We are a cattle tick free zone and J-BAS 6 herd.
HANDLING
Low stress stock handling is important to us and we endeavor to always treat cattle calmly and with respect. Our cattle are accustomed to being worked with horses, dogs and ATV’s. They are familiar with electric fences. An appropriate degree of firmness is used when required, particularly when handling bulls to ensure they do not develop bad manners.
PREPARATION
Bulls are prepared in the paddock on pastures over the summer with light supplementary feeding. In the lead up to the sale as it becomes available, they are introduced to oats or lucerne to graze alongside the high roughage ration that is provided daily in their paddocks.
The cattle are young and we aim to feed them so they show their potential without becoming overprepared and potentially affecting their fertility and longevity.
SUPPLEMENTARY INFORMATION
Supplementary sheets will be made available with scan data, sale weights and semen testing results prior to the sale. Scanning technician, Roger Evans will provide data for EMA, rib and rump fat and IMF% at scanning that will be performed early June. Supplementary information will be uploaded to our webpage, they can be e-mailed upon request from mid June and printed copies will be available on sale day.
SETTLING IN
Our cattle are used to running in groups. Transportation and settling into a new home can be a tricky time. Please ensure you have appropriate companions to introduce them to and a little space while they get used to their new surroundings. Treat them respectfully and provide them with a good nutritional plane so they can continue to grow out to their genetic potential over the next 12-24 months.
The yearling bulls will be ready for a light joining period by spring. Ideally the initial joining would be with another bull of similar age and size that they have been running with.
If you want to discuss management, joining, maintenance and health we are happy to take your call.
BREEDPLAN & EBVs
The Belview herd has been Breedplan recorded since 2003. If applicable, registered lots have been analysed for 200, 400 and 600 day weights along with scrotal circumference, fat, EMA and IMF. These are the traits we try to balance in our breeding selections here at Belview.
The Breedplan data published in this catalogue will be from the April 2025 group Breedplan figures. We have analysed some of this data from these figures in the sale lots and identified those figures that are in the top 25% or better. Please note that the figures may shift by sale day.
EXPLANATORY NOTES FOR ESTIMATED BREEDING VALUES (EBVs)
Only Brangus GROUP BREEDPLAN EBVs can be validly compared between herds.
ESTIMATED BREEDING VALUES (EBVs)
An animal’s breeding value is its genetic merit, half of which will be passed on to its progeny. While we will never know the exact breeding value, for performance traits it is possible to make good estimates. These are called Estimated Breeding Values (EBVs). The EBV is therefore the best estimate of an animal’s genetic merit for that trait. EBVs are expressed as the difference between an individual animal’s genetics and the genetic base to which the animal is compared.
ACCURACY
An accuracy value is presented with every EBV and gives an indication of the amount of information that has been used in the calculation of that EBV. The higher the accuracy, the lower the likelihood of change in the animal’s EBV as more information is analysed for that animal or its relatives. The following guide is given for interpreting accuracy.
ACCURACY RANGE INTERPRETATION
Less than 50% Low accuracy and should be considered a preliminary estimate. The EBV could change substantially as more performance information becomes available.
50 – 74% Medium accuracy, usually based on the animal’s own records and pedigree.
75 – 90% Medium-high accuracy and usually includes some progeny information. Becoming a more reliable indicator of the animal’s value as a parent.
90% and above High accuracy. It is unlikely that the EBV will change much with the addition of more progeny data.
As a rule, animals should be compared on EBVs regardless of accuracy. However, where two animals have similar EBVs the one with higher accuracy could be the safer choice, assuming other factors are equal.
TRAITS
BIRTH
Birth Weight EBV (kg) is based on the measured birth weight of animals, adjusted for dam age. The lower the value the lighter the calf at birth and the lower the likelihood of a difficult birth. This is particularly important when selecting sires for use over heifers.
GROWTH
Milk EBV (kg) is an estimate of an animal’s milking ability. For sires, this EBV is indicative of their daughter’s milking ability as it affects the 200-day weights of their calves.
20 0-Day Growth EBV (kg) is calculated from the weight of animals taken between 80 and 300 days of age. Values are adjusted to 200 days and for age of dam. This EBV is the best single estimate of an animal’s genetic merit for growth to early ages.
400-Day Weight EBV (kg) is calculated from the weight of progeny taken between 301 and 500 days of age, adjusted to 400 days and for age of dam. This EBV is the best single estimate of an animal’s genetic merit for yearling weight.
600-Day Weight EBV (kg) is calculated from the weight of progeny taken between 501 and 900 days of age, adjusted to 600 days and for age of dam. This EBV is the best single estimate of an animal’s genetic merit for growth beyond yearling age.
FERTILITY
Scrotal Size EBV (cm) is calculated from the scrotal circumference measurements of males taken between 300 and 700 days of age. Values are adjusted to 400 days of age. This EBV is an indicator of male fertility in regards to semen quality and quantity. Higher (positive) EBVs indicate larger scrotal size. There is also a small negative correlation with age of puberty in female progeny and therefore selection for increased scrotal size will result in reduced age at calving of female progeny.
CARCASE
Eye Muscle Area EBV (cm2) estimates genetic differences in eye muscle area at the 12/13th rib site of a 300kg dressed carcase. More positive EBVs indicate larger eye muscle area and therefore higher retail beef yields.
Rib Fat EBV (mm) estimates the genetic differences in fat depth at the 12/13th rib in a 300kg dressed carcase. More positive EBVs indicate more subcutaneous fat and earlier maturity.
Rump Fat EBV (mm) estimates the genetic differences in fat depth at the P8 site of a 300kg dressed carcase. More positive EBVs indicate more subcutaneous fat and earlier maturity.
Retail Beef Yield Percent EBV (%) represents total (boned out) meat yield as a percentage of a 300kg dressed carcase. A more positive EBV indicates higher percentage yield for the 300kg carcase weight.
SELECTION INDEXES
Do mestic Steer Index - Estimates the genetic differences between animals in net profitability per cow joined for an example self replacing commercial herd (run in a temperate environment) producing steers for the domestic trade. This index assumes that steer progeny are pasture grown to feedlot entry then feedlot finished for a short (75 day) feeding period before being marketed at 490 kg live weight (265 kg HSCW and 10 mm P8 fat depth) at 15 months of age. Daughters are retained for breeding.
E xport Steer Index - Estimates the genetic differences between animals in net profitability per cow joined for an example self replacing commercial herd (run in a tropical environment) producing steers for the export trade. This index assumes that the steer progeny are pasture grown and finished before being marketed at 620 kg live weight (325 kg HSCW and 16 mm P8 fat depth) at 30 months of age. Daughters are retained for breeding.
The majority of our breeder herd now have a DNA profile. All registered lots have had the Brangus Bundle of genetic tests run. Included in this is parent verification, 100K SNP, coat colour, poll status and tenderness rating. Results for each animal will be included in this catalogue. Possible variations are explained below.
GENETIC TESTING RESULTS EXPLAINED
COAT:
• ED – homozygous dominate black
• ED/e – dominate black/recessive red
• ED/E+ – dominate black/wildtype
• E+/e – wildtype/recessive red
• E+/E+ – homozygous wildtype
• e/e – homozygous recessive red
POLL:
• PcPc – homozygous poll (PP)
• HPc – heterozygous poll (PH)
• HH – horned
• NR – Due to failed test OR due to unresolved haplotype
TENDERNESS:
Increase in ‘tenderness’ is association with favourable alleles seen within the selected marker panel. In reported results, the combined genotype results have been scored between 1 to 10, where 10 has the most favourable number of alleles present
PARENT VERIFICATION SUFFIXES
The following suffixes are used to identify the parent verification status of each lot.
• PV – Sire and dam verified by DNA
• SV – Sire verified by DNA
• DV – Dam verified by DNA
• # – DNA verification has not been conducted
DNA REGISTRATION
