Cinema has long been a powerful tool for exploring the complexities of freedom—its pursuit, its cost, and its triumphs. This year we bring together a diverse selection of films that examine freedom in all its forms. From stories of individuals seeking their true selves to communities resisting oppression, these films challenge, inspire, and remind us of the universal desire to break barriers and reclaim agency.
Through compelling narratives, bold performances, and creative direction, the lineup showcases the resilience of the human spirit. Whether through historical struggles or intimate personal journeys, each film invites audiences to reflect on what it truly means to be free.
Join us as we embark on this cinematic journey—one that dares to ask difficult questions, celebrates acts of courage, and ultimately affirms the enduring power of freedom.
Films about freedom also play a part during our annual observance of Pride and World Refugee Awareness Month, during which we honor the strength and determination of refugees and immigrants worldwide, inviting audiences to deepen their understanding and empathy for those forced to leave behind everything they know in search of safety and a brighter future.
A few stats about this year’s films:
• Three films are their country’s submissions for the Best International Feature Film Oscar and most premiered at the world’s top international film festivals, including Cannes, Venice, and Berlin.
