“Ignite the Apprentice Program Staff development is a constant focus at Belmont 16s. Our Ignite employee rewards program established nine years ago has created a high level customer service and a proactive team culture. The success of this program has recently placed an additional focus within our Kitchen Apprenticeship team. “The first few years of being introduced into the workforce can be daunting” says Human Resources Manager, Rachael Grant, adding “Knowing that as a tradesperson in those first few years Chefs can be undervalued, I wanted to shine a light on the fact that becoming a qualified Chef can present a world of opportunity to not only be creative and travel anywhere with this skillset, but that becoming a chef is a trade that has a valued place in so many different industries from Hospitality and Tourism to Journalism and Healthcare Sectors.“ Recognising this and working with our Apprentices, Rachael along with Executive Chef Tony Maher have created " The Apprenticeship Program", where an emphasis is placed on positive daily communications of expected behaviours, performance recognition as well as fostering constructive work place relationships, the aim of which is to ensure that they learn not only to qualify in their trade but to be able to move confidently towards becoming , highly employable, versatile and well respected Chefs in our Community. In addition to the Apprentices' mentoring in and out of the kitchen, The Human Resources Department has been busy developing " The Ignite Feast Challenge", an inaugural internal competition of sorts where apprentices are given the freedom and scope to plan and then pull off a dining feast. This Ignite Feast Challenge will be held in August and be judged by a selection of Industry professionals.
