A final reminder to those who have not yet licensed their dogs: late charges are now being assessed at $20 per dog. Starting in August, a state-imposed fine of $50 will be assessed, followed shortly by a $60 fine, and by a $100 fine in October.

“These fines are cumulative, adding up to a total of $210 in fines, plus the $20 late fee and dog licensing fee,” explained Town Clerk Larry Sposato.

These are state mandated citations, and neither the Town Clerk’s office nor the Animal Control officers can waive these fines unless proof is demonstrated that the dog is licensed, the dog is deceased, or the dog has been moved out of town.

If you haven’t licensed your dog by the end of the year, Milford District Court will issue a summons to appear in court. If that is ignored, a warrant for arrest will be generated. This is

serious business!

So, if you haven’t already done so, please license your dog(s) immediately.

Tips for a Quicker RMV Visit The RMV can conjure up images of long lines of stress or happiness for a newly licensed driver.

Whether young or old, the RMV is a part of our life, and so are the emotions it brings out of us. Listed below are a few tips for improving your RMV visit as well as descriptions of how the RMV is better serving customers.

First and foremost, when is the best time to go to the RMV given the fact that they are open 9-5 MondayFriday? In our opinion, the best time is late afternoon. Many customers go to the RMV at 8:30 am and stand in line for at least half an hour before the doors even open. Late afternoon, 4:30-4:55 pm, is usually much quieter. The RMV serves all customers who walk through their doors before 5 pm. They may close and lock doors behind you to prevent others from entering, but they will process your transaction. A helpful way to check current wait times at the Registry is to visit their online website, which lists wait times for both license & registration transactions at all RMV locations.

The RMV has a greeter at the front door to help direct customers to proper lines while reviewing paperwork to ensure all necessary forms are included and complete. As to payment methods, the RMV now accepts debit/credit cards, cash, and personal checks for all transactions.

Do you need to print something out before going to the RMV? Most RMV sites have a work station with a computer and printer to print documents. Some RMV documents require an insurance stamp verifying that you have active insurance. The RMV allows “electronic stamps” from insurance companies and agencies now, so it is not always necessary for clients to stop by our office before heading to the RMV. In some cases we can print, scan and then email documents to you which you can print out at your home, your workplace or the RMV office. This can be a real time saver.

Ostrander Insurance goes to the RMV for our customers once a week. As an agency, we are not required to wait in line. However, our paperwork is not completed immediately because we drop it off and then pick it up 24–48 hours later.

This is a great option for getting new license plates or plate transfers.

Dropping items at the Milford RMV also gives Dick Ostrander a chance to stop by Mazzarelli’s Bakery now and again to pick up a fresh loaf of bread.

Keep these tips in mind the next time you head to the RMV, or make it easy on yourself and let us go for you. But if you ask us to pick up a loaf of bread, it’s going to cost you extra!

Children’s librarian “Mr. Steve” Fowler introduced Todd by thanking the Friends of the Bellingham Library and Rockland Trust Charitable Foundation for funding the library’s summer reading program. Rockland Trust’s Bellingham branch manager Josh Hazell was on hand to present a check to the Friends before Todd took over the show.

Todd wowed the audience with card tricks and illusions, pulling several delighted volunteers up to help with the show. His antics and jokes kept both kids and parents entertained, and the audience particularly loved playing along.

Todd had them “throw” imaginary crayons into a bag to magically fill in

a coloring book that had been blank moments before, and surprised volunteers by showing that he was wearing the match to the socks they magically pulled out of his bag.

He tied the show back into the summer reading program, asking the audience who among them had started their reading, to which most of the audience raised their hands.

“Fantastic,” he encouraged. “It brings up a good point,” he continued. “Using your imagination, anything’s possible when you’re reading.”

He finished with a juggling act and was available for photos afterward.

Dr. Hylander maintains that corruption still exists and that it was a sad day when the White Sox scandal corrupted one of our favorite sports.

Police Dept. Narrowly Wins Battle of the Badges Blood Drive

written by Christine Doyle, Contributing Writer One of the many smaller events our town held to celebrate its tercentennial is aimed at collecting 300 pints of blood for the American Red Cross.

While these events may be small, they are a powerful way to build our sense of community. Just one pint of blood can save up to three lives, and there is a critical need for blood because only about 3% of age-eligible people donate yearly.

By holding many blood drives throughout the year, the town’s 300th Anniversary Committee organizers are hoping they can reach their goal while at the same time helping those who may be in need in our community.

To make the most recent blood drive a fun event, organizer Jen Altomonte asked the police and fire departments to help get the word out and create a healthy competition. Which of these two Submitted to Bellingham Bulletin

organizations could get more donations? The Battle of the Badges was on!

The blood drive was held at St. Blaise Church, and by 10am that morning the Red Cross team was quite busy greeting donors and making them as comfortable as possible during the donation process.

Altomonte was pleased that 25 people had pre-registered to donate and happy to have walk-ins as well. Once donors had signed in, they were asked to select either a red or a blue bead to put in the collection bucket to mark how they had heard about the drive. By late morning the fire department was in the lead, but the race was close. In the end the police took the win; 36 pints were collected in total.

The project will wrap up with the Conservation Commission at the end of July, and work should begin in late August or early September.

Bahatia Graduates, Mellen Makes Dean’s List at BU

Boston University announced recently that it has awarded an academic degree to Trisha Bhatia, who received a Bachelor of Science in Health Science. The University also announced that Jacob Mellen, a resident of Bellingham, has recently been named to the Dean's List at Boston University for the spring semester.

Thredz Unlimited Completes Move to New Location

Twenty-year Bellingham resident Bryan Hall started his company in a spare bedroom 13 years ago with only a handful of loyal clients. Today, you can visit Thredz Unlimited at its spacious new headquarters at 191 Mechanic Street at the shops in front of Urban Air. There, you can look over a large selection of merchandise and consult with Hall in a unique showroom setting that he refers to as an “idea factory, where customers can see, feel and touch samples and examples of our work.”

Established in 2006, he opened his first small location in Bellingham in 2007 and then three years later moved to what was the former location on North Main St. According to Hall, this most recent move was an easy decision to make in order to better accommodate his customers and facilitate his continued business growth. He went on to say, “The economy is strong and the ideal location presented itself at the ideal time; it was a no-brainer.”

Thredz Unlimited provides customers with custom designed and expertly decorated apparel, goods and gear for any business, team or event. He offers customers more than 20 years of experience in promotional marketing and business-to-business sales, and his client list ranges from local businesses and trades-people to Fortune 500 companies. Residents Enjoy Old Home Days Despite Extreme Heat

One of the premier events in celebration of Bellingham’s 300th Anniversary was Old Home Days, a 3-day event (July 19–21), designed to be reminiscent of an old-time country fair. Unfortunately, temperatures in the high 90s with high humidity put a definite damper on attendance.

Some events were cancelled because of the heat and roughly half of the crafters/vendors did not return on Sunday.

Other events went off as planned—the

bike parade, various performances and talent shows, and live entertainment on the main stage, culminating in a cornhole tournament and chicken barbeque dinner on Sunday evening.

Thanks go to the members of Chairman Adam Thorell’s Old Home Days Committee and all volunteers.

She is a Healthy Heart Ambassador with three years’ experience leading this program, which is open to those who are 18 years of age and older, have a diagnosis of high blood pressure, have not experienced a recent cardiac event, have not had atrial fibrillation or other arrhythmias, and are not at risk for lymphedema.

Evidence has shown that by checking and recording your blood pressure at home at least twice a month over a period of four months you may be able to lower it. The YMCA’s Blood Pressure SelfMonitoring Program has personalized support while participants self-monitor and receive tips for maintaining cardiovascular health and nutritional education. Participants work with Kelly during the four-month program. They are to check their blood

pressure at least twice a month, attend two group meetings a month and attend a monthly nutritional education program. Participants will be provided with a blood pressure monitor. The cost of the program is $100 or $25 a month for four months.

By being in the program you will learn the correct technique for taking blood pressure at home, learn to identify trends and patterns in readings, and receive ongoing support as you work to make monitoring a regular habit. The group meetings are designed to support you as you better manage your blood pressure and you will receive weekly emails, texts or calls from Kelly to check on your progress.

The nutritional program highlights how food is related to blood pressure management so you can learn how to make better food choices. Some of the topics discussed are how to reduce sodium intake; heart-healthy eating; and shopping, preparing and cooking foods for better blood pressure management.

When asked recently what she expects of her team, Ryan said, “Hard work, commitment, and mental toughness are all key to success.” She also stressed effort and having a team bond and a love of field hockey. Translating that commitment to defense is sure to be one of Ryan’s aims. Coaches who were once great players sometimes have difficulties teaching skills that come naturally to them. When asked how she would overcome this obstacle, Ryan explained: “I would say that I am planning on working on the basics of defense like appropriate spacing, angles, marking up and learning how to read/cut off passes.

I will also stress the importance of communication in the backfield; since defenders and goalies can see

Attention: Residents Bellingham Master Plan Comm. Wants YOUR Opinions Every ten years the town of Bellingham undertakes a process in which it reflects on the last decade and looks forward to the next. This process is conducted in order to plan strategically for the town’s future. The end result of that process is Bellingham’s Master Plan, a document which reflects both on Bellingham’s natural qualities and built environment such as its open-space resources, infrastructure, and housing, among other elements. The plan will go on to develop strategies to improve upon these elements as well as action steps to achieve the goals outlined by the town.

A committee was recently formed in order to develop this plan. The Master Plan Implementation Committee is made up of knowledgeable residents of Bellingham appointed by the Plan-

ning Board and supported by town staff. The Committee has begun to dig in to the details of what makes Bellingham special and how this plan can influence improvements to the town between now and 2030. One vital aspect of the process is garnering input from all residents and businesses of Bellingham.

The Committee wants to hear from you. Please take a few minutes to complete the survey posted on the town website, https:// mapc.ma/bellinghamsurvey.
