2021 Student Representative Council (SRC) Information for parents 27th January 2021 Assalamu Alaykum, Dear Parents, This year, Bellfield College Junior School will have an official student leadership body, comprised of the Student Representative Council (SRC) and our executive student leadership team (Year 6 School Prefects and School Captains). The student leadership team will be supported by the Student Leadership coordinator, Mrs Hioki. Students elected as SRC members will be role models for other students and will be expected to uphold school expectations to an extremely high standard. They will work closely with the executive student leadership team. Their behaviour, attitude to work and appearance must be exemplary, and we expect our leaders to represent the school positively in the local and wider community. One student per year level will be elected. The elected student will hold the title for the whole school year. To be elected as a member of the Student Representative Council students must: ● ●

Have an exceptional student behaviour record. This will be reviewed by staff via the student’s record on Sentral. Demonstrate the following school expectations: ● ● ● ● ● ●

Remember Allah swt. Listen and speak kindly to others. Share all spaces. Take turns. Look after others. Respect everyone’s rights.

Take pride in their work. Be a creative thinker. Encourage others. Make good choices. Think before acting. Use their words. Be a team player. Try their best.

How can my child be elected? If your child feels that they would like to be a member of the SRC and would be a suitable candidate, they will need to write and present a 1-2 minute speech detailing how they will uphold these school expectations and what they will do as an SRC member. (Refer to role statement below).


The first round of speeches will be in classrooms during the week of February 8 to February 12. Teachers will decide who continues into the second round. One student per class will be selected to proceed to the second round. The second round of speeches will be during a Stage assembly on Monday February 15. Students will vote for their preferred candidate in their year level. Elected SRC members will be announced in the weekly school newsletter on Friday February 19. An official student leadership investiture ceremony will take place on Monday February 22. Further information for parents will follow. Role Statement Student Representative Council Duties The role of the SRC is: ● To be the voice of the students and find out what students think. ● To help make the school a better place for everyone, have an impact on decisionmaking in the school, including teaching, learning and student behaviour. ● Build relationships and community school spirit. ● Student communications: newsletter contributions. ● Mediation, interschool activities and forums. ● Respond to student concerns and needs - Supporting students to speak up, resolving conflict, reporting to students, tackling racism, bullying and other forms of discrimination. ● Bring about changes - School community and wider community, student action teams act to make change, raising and donating money, support students to make change. ● SRC members represent the Junior School at assemblies and assume other responsibilities given by the teachers. ● SRC members are expected to be at fortnightly meetings to discuss issues and initiatives.

If expectations are not met and negative behaviour incidents are added to Sentral. You will have 2 warnings before your badge is removed. Parent contact will be made if this occurs.
