What an amazing Term it has been with so many wonderful events and what a great way to finish up with the Annual Walkathon last Sunday. It was lovely to see so many families attend this joyous event and see so many smiles all round.

Please rest up over the holidays. Enjoy the company of those you love most. Enjoy the cooler Autumn days and get as much fresh air as possible.

As Term 1 draws to a close I want to take this opportunity to thank you for your ongoing support of your children and of Bellfield College. For children to thrive it truly does take a partnership between families and staff and it is a privilege to be able to work alongside you.

MINDQUEST

Glenwood High School Corner Forman Ave & Glenwood Park Drive Saturday and Sunday 22 & 23rd May 2021 On Saturday 22 and Sunday 23rd May 2021 the NST Talent Enrichment Weekend MindQuest will be held for primary students from Years 1-6 at Glenwood High School.

These include gifted and high potential students, gifted underachievers and students with above average ability with a special interest. They will have an opportunity to participate in over 37 exciting, fast paced courses in the two day program. They include courses in chemistry, earth sciences, 3D printing, lego robotics, art and much, much more. Most of these highly successful courses have been run in the past and students’ evaluations suggest they have been challenged and enriched by the experience. The cost of the weekend in $210 (including GST).

BELLFIELD COLLEGE 2021 WALKATHON This week, Year 1 students had an opportunity to participate in a walkathon activity during class time.

Students started the lesson by colouring in a picture showing a child holding a flag, walking for the Imam. This helped them to briefly understand the walkathon. Students then participated in walking for the Imam, while holding flags saying ‘Ya Mahdi’. After the walk, they were told the story of Imam Mahdi’s birthday. After the story, the teacher asked the students questions based on the story to observe what they had learnt. The students had lots of fun and learnt a lot about the Imam. It was a nice experience for them as they learnt about the Imam of their time.

The activities helped the students learn more about Imam Al-Mahdi especially by giving them the metaphor of the Imam like the sun behind the clouds, one cannot see it but still feels its heat.

CRICKET GALA DAY Assalamu alaykum, Dear parents, On Wednesday 31st March, a group of Stage 3 students represented Bellfield College in a Cricket Gala Day held by Cricket NSW. It was a fun day run by Sydney thunder where the students learnt more about Cricket and sportsmanship. The boys and girls enjoyed the day with modified rules to make the game more enjoyable. The games were fast paced and a joy to watch and be a part of. The students were social and demonstrated fairness and good sportsmanship. We all had a fun day working on our cricketing skills in a supportive team environment. Well done young cricketers, I look forward to our next sporting adventure.

Asalamu Alaykum Dear parents, Please be reminded that female Students in Kindergarten, Year 1, Year 2 and Year 3 are NOT permitted to wear white (or any other colour) tights or leggings under their pinafore. Only College prayer tights are allowed.

NSW PREMIER'S READING CHALLENGE Dear Parents and carers, What is the NSW Premier’s Reading Challenge?

The NSW Premier’s Reading Challenge (PRC) is not a competition but a challenge to each student to read, to read more and to read more widely. The PRC is open to all NSW students in Kindergarten to Year 9, in government, independent, Catholic and home schools.

The Challenge aims to encourage a love of reading for leisure and pleasure in students, and to enable them to experience quality literature.

Students must read a certain number of books to complete the Challenge. Upon successful completion of the Challenge, students will be eligible for a PRC certificate in Term 4.

When is the challenge?

The 2021 Challenge opened to students on Monday March 1, 2021 and will close on Friday August 20, 2021.

How does my child sign up?

Students will receive their login shortly from their class teacher. Students will use their login to access their online profile and log the books they read online.

What should my child read?

Please encourage your children to read the books that have been shortlisted on the website prc@det.nsw.edu.au . Students can borrow books from the College library.

Also, a trip to your local library is always a nice way to ensure you have the correct books, as they are easy to find.

By encouraging and engaging all our students to partake in this initiative we hope to develop a greater love for reading and to further improve their literacy and vocabulary skills.

JUNIOR SCHOOL WINTER UNIFORM

The uniform shop will be open during the school holidays by appointment only on the following days: Wednesday, 7th April 2021 Friday, 9th April 2021 Monday, 12th April 2021 Wednesday, 14th April 2021 Friday, 16th April 2021 Parents and carers are encouraged to consider their winter uniform purchases for Term 2, 2021. Access to the uniform shop will only be given to those parents who have made an appointment.

Blazer Orders: Families are encouraged to pre order their child/ren's Blazer NOW. It is compulsory for ALL students to wear a Blazer for school photos. School photo days are being held on the following days: Junior School Photo Day: Wednesday, 2nd June 2021 Senior School Photo Day: Thursday, 3rd June 2021 To ensure your child/ren receive their Blazer in time for School Photo Day, Blazers must be ordered and paid for by Wednesday, 19th May 2021.

The uniform shop does not take orders over the telephone for Blazers. Students are fitted for Blazers and full payment is required to place an order. There will be NO REFUNDS or EXCHANGES for an incorrect size or purchase.
