The name Swarovski is synonymous

with an enigmatic substance and mysterious savoir faire: cut and faceted crystals. Swarovski transforms crystal into adornments of pure light: jewels, accessories, infinitely small, faceted pieces that add sparkle to cloth used for haute couture garments, and much more. The project was born of a close partnership between Swarovski and the perfume experts of Clarins Fragrances Group. The fruit of this collaboration is a new scent signature, with a totally innovative texture and design; a fresh, contemporary reinterpreta-

tion of Swarovski’s legendary heritage. A new seduction, a new sensation. By the dawn of the 20th century, jewelers and couture houses were eagerly seeking out Swarovski crystal. In Paris, Swarovski collaborated with fashion greats such as Coco Chanel, Elsa Schiaperalli, and Christian Dior. In 1962, Marilyn Monroe crooned “Happy Birthday, Mr. President” to John F. Kennedy wearing a close fitting dress spangled with thousands of hand sewn Swarovski crystals.

In 1977, Swarovski took its creativity one step further with the launch of its own line of jewelryoriginal, contemporary designs sets with faceted crystals in all the colors of the rainbow. In 2009, the Brand introduced its final watches, and 2011 will contained the launch of Swarovski eyewear. In 2008 the brand launched a new boutique concept at Grinza, shopping district: “Crystal Forest”, created in partnership with Tokujin Yoshioka. The Swarovski name has sparkled the world over, with 1’800 boutiques at the crossroads of luxury, fashion and style.

I wanted to create an object that is timeless, something which could have been in a palace in Vienna in the beginning of the last century, or could be the focal point in a modern loft in New York, or could be featured in a futuristic movie. This creation had to represent these types of simplicity, of obviousness, as well as a strong character that is unique and immediately recognizable.

elleza Moda Magazine had the chance to interview electronic music superstar, Dash Berlin. Through our exclusive interview we were able to learn more about Dash Berlin to share with our readers.

But at the end of the day it’s all about sharing a feeling through music either in a song or in a set. Dance music for Dash Berlin is about being creative and being truly alive. During a set, Dash Berlin is able to connect with his audience through putting all his emotions into his set. He believes that there is a magical frequency that you can connect with and when everything comes together and everybody tunes in is when the magic happens. Every set that he plays is catered to take care of the crowd. There will be times when the crowd will be more energetic and there will be times when they will be less energetic.

Dash Berlin, also known as Jeffrey Sutorius, is a renowned DJ famous for his catchy beats and unique tracks. What some people don’t know is that outside of being a dj, Dash Berlin is a yoga aficionado who loves to run, read, and learn more about different subjects. As a young kid he had a passion for drums and creating beats.

Dash Berlin states that the entire experience of coming up with a perfect “formula” to keep the crowd happy is very organic. There are times when he is wrong and right. The difficult thing is that every crowd in different cities and countries all vary in their tastes. This experience in picking and choosing the right songs to use for a set is what keeps Dash Berlin sharp.

This love of percussion was passed down to him from his late father who was a drummer in a jazz band. Even Dash Berlin’s beats reflect his extensive background in percussion. For those that are unfamiliar with his music, Dash Berlin describes it as the type of music that people have to dance to and experience in order to understand what it is all about. Feeling the beat and rhythm is especially important with dance music, which is what Dash Berlin specializes in.

For all aspiring DJs and musicians out there, believing in yourself even when nobody else does is the strongest thing that will keep you going. Dash Berlin states that success comes naturally to you when you genuinely love what you do. Along with that, make sure not to fall in love with success itself because you will always be heartbroken. The talented dance music DJ cites dopamine being the main driving factor in his life that influences him to create music. Dopamine, for those unfamiliar, is a neurotransmitter that helps control the brain’s reward and pleasure centers. But don’t get it wrong, not everything comes easy for Dash Berlin, especially when it comes to the growing competitiveness of the dance music industry. Some of the difficulties that Dash Berlin faces is the difficult and physically-taxing traveling. There are days where he has to go without sleeping in order to make up for his busy schedule.

To find the perfect perfume for yourself here are some ways: Every perfume is made up of different notes or layers that wear away within minutes or hours.

Little fact sheet for you before you head out to shop:

1. Eau de toilette is made up from five to eight percent of oil and is mixed with alcohol. 2. Eau de perfume is made up from fifteen to eighteen percent of oil, it costs much more than the eau de cologne and eau de toilette. 3. Absolutes are made with extraction of oils which are derived from the flowers, they are expensive but are 100% pure and the smell stays intact for a long time. 4. Perfume, on the other hand, is made up of fifteen to thirty percent of the perfume oil mixed with alcohol and is much more expensive than eau’s. Now the facts listed above are just the basic steps to reach out to a scent that will really suit you. The next step can be to watch out for which brand you would like to associate with, starting from musky perfumes, to perfume with leathery bases, or flowery perfumes. • You would want to associate with one brand family, which would cater towards providing your types of fragrances. That means do not rush into buying perfume, it should be what you would want to wear everyday. • The counters in the market are full of brands catering towards floral, citrus, fruity, fresh, oriental/spicy, woody/chypre and etc. • Make sure to shop in the later part of the day when getting yourself a new perfume and do not buy a lot of perfumes in one day - always make sure to get by few days to pick on the next perfume. • Remember to consider your skin type while buying any perfume dry or oily or combination - the higher the concentrate level of the perfume the longer it will last on you. 14

With summer just around the corner, makeup and beauty brands are coming out with

more and more products geared towards the temperature. With these various makeup products come different makeup trends. Five different products that are essential in achieving the perfect summer looks. Although this is nothing new to the beauty industry, it seems to pop up every spring and summer. The trend we’re talking about is the dewy makeup look. This look entails highlighting and using products that are specifically geared towards a “moist” look. 1. Beauty Blender The beautyblender is a cosmetic sponge that is used to apply foundation, concealer, and buff out any harsh lines. First, wet your sponge with a little bit of a water then squeeze out the excess water. Then, use the sponge and apply a little bit of your foundation or concealer and start applying it to your face in dabbing motions. When you use dabbing motions instead of the typical “swiping” motion you’ll be able to keep your foundation and makeup in place and at the same time achieve a moist look to your makeup.

The building is similar to the BMW 3 series vehicles, which are produced in this individual building. The magnificent cars are produced in this building where the admirers are allowed to visit the factory premises to watch the whole production process. The whole project was finished in May 2005. The project was part of a competition in which Zaha Hadid won the Pritzker prize.

The Central Building is the active nervecentre or brain of the whole factory complex. All threads of the building’s activities gather together and branch out again from here. This planning strategy applies to the cycles and trajectories of people - workers (arriving in the morning and returning for lunch) and visitors - as well as for the cycle and progress of the production line which traverses this central point - departing and returning again. This dynamic focal point of the enterprise is made visually evident in the proposed dynamic spatial system that encompasses the whole northern front of the factory and articulates the central building as the point of confluence and culmination of the various converging flows. It seems as if the whole expanse of this side of the factory is oriented and animated by a force field emanating from the central building. All movement converging on the site is funnelled through this compression chamber squeezed inbetween the three main segments of production: Body in White, Paint Shop and Assembly.

and kitchens. If any waste heat from the factory were available in winter, this could then be used to de-ice the car park.

The Façades

-The large amount of fill due to be deposited under the car park may present an opportunity to create a seasonal heat store. Buried pipework in conjunction with a heat pump would provide a cooling source in summer by transferring heat from the building / solar cells to the ground store. In winter this stored heat would then be available for use in the building (for a low grade heat user such as pre-heating air introduced by mechanical ventilation).

The façades allow a high degree of transparency whilst adapting to the external environment to control summer solar gains and winter heat loss. The amount of glazing on each façade will be carefully engineered to maximise internal comfort. ‘Active shading’ in the form of deciduous trees and external shading is used to modulate the sunlight incident on the glazed facades in order to: minimise solar gain in the summer, maintain good natural light levels, reduce glare, and maximise passive solar gains in the winter.

Additional Energy Saving Measures: Other areas that will require further investigation and analysis are: -The possibility of using buried pipework under the car park as a heat source. This could be used to heat hot water in the summer for sanitary appliances such as showers

-The large roof area is also ideal for some form of solar collection- photovoltaic cells for electricity (which could also be used for electrolysis of water to produce hydrogen fuel) or water cells for hot water production. -Recovered rainwater from the large roof could be used for toilet facilities and watering of the landscaped areas around the building.

PROCESS 1 small bunch basil 6 scallions (just the green parts) 1/4 cup (60 mL) vegetable oil 4 small heirloom or kumato tomatoes

In a large pan on high heat, bring butter to a boil. Immediately reduce heat to low and simmer, whisking regularly, until butter browns, about 15 minutes. Transfer to a bowl to cool. Should produce about 1/3 cup (80 mL). Slice kernels from corn. Snap cobs in half and place in pot with water to cover, at least 8 cups (2 L). Boil for 15 minutes, strain and discard solids. In a large pot on medium heat, sweat the onion, garlic and celery 1/4 cup (60 mL) brown butter, stirring, until softened, about 10 minutes. Add the corn kernels, 4 cups (1 L) corn stock and thyme. Simmer for 15 minutes. Cool for 5 minutes before transferring to blender and pureeing. Season to taste, adjusting texture with additional butter or stock. Pass through fine mesh strainer. Refrigerate.

Splash of olive oil. Splash of sherry or red vinegar Salt and pepper to taste Prepare a pot of salted, boiling water and a bowl of ice water. Blanche and shock the basil and 4 of the scallions buy boiling for 5 seconds and transferring to ice water. When cool, squeeze dry and use paper towel to tamp off excess

water. PurĂŠe in blender with vegetable oil. Pass through fine mesh strainer. Slice tomatoes into bite-sized pieces. Slice remaining scallions. In mixing bowl, toss tomatoes with scallions, vinegar and olive oil. Add salt and pepper to taste. Serve chilled soup in bowls garnished with tomatoes and drizzle of basil oil. The idea of fitness tracking has been around for a while; however, the recent demand for personal fitness trackers has skyrocketed, forcing various companies to develop leading edge and super sensitive technologies in order to prove that their trackers are the best. The fitness trackers currently on the market have the standard features of tracking steps taken, calories burned, and sleep patterns, which is perfect if you are just starting out.

Misfit’s Flash does exactly that for only $50 and comes with a battery that lasts approximately 6 months. Runtastic’s Orbit ($100) has the added benefit of a clip at the back of the sensor which allows the wearer to choose if they want to have it on their wrist, belt, or even discreetly placed in their pocket.

The Sony Smartband SWR10 ($100) takes it to another level by tracking exactly how much time you have spent on your phone or your computer, in an effort to show you exactly how you spend your day. The Lifelog app that accompanies the Smartband, tracks (with your permission) how much you’re communicating on social media, what photos you took, what music you listened to, what movies you watched, how long you were playing games on your phone, what books you’re reading, and how much you’re browsing the web. All this can only be tracked through your phone, so you can cheat your statistics by watching television or reading a real book. Moving on to the intermediate trackers; the Garmin Vivosmart ($190) has a uniquely nagging feature of sending a vibration alert through the wristband every time you go an hour without walking and the only way to make it stop is to go for a short walk. This is a great way of actively pushing behavioral changes but annoying when you have to sit through a meeting that happens to be over an hour long. The newly designed Fitbit Charge HR ($180) comes with a built-in heart rate monitor along with its tracking features. The monitoring is automatic and continuous so that you can track the intensity of your workouts and calorie burn.

The most stylish of the fitness trackers has to go to Withings’ Activité Pop ($150). It will still track your steps, sleep, calories burned, adjust to the current time zone, tell you the time, and last for approximately 8 months with one battery cell; but it does not look like a fitness tracker! The Activité Pop has an actual clock face and is available in many colors, the sleek design and lack of digital display means this tracker will definitely go with every outfit.

Finally for the more intense fitness junkies, the Basis Peak at $200 is a great selection. It also features a heart rate monitor and this allows for differentiation between the types of workouts that you’re doing, such as jogging versus High Intensity Interval Training. And of course, for the pro athlete in all of us, there’s the Garmin Fēnix 2 where for $400 you can track absolutely everything. Running speed, heart rate variability, cadence, ground contact time, pace and stroke count while swimming, distance and vertical drop while Ski-Boarding, GPS, altimeter, barometer, and compass, are all included in this wonderful gadget.

While all the other fitness trackers (excluding Garmin Fēnix 2) allow for the option of food tracking and setting goals, most developers assume that you are actively trying to live a healthier lifestyle. The Jawbone UP 3 is equipped with Smart Coach that provides personalized tips and well timed reminders to make healthier choices. Smart Coach also gives you suggestions to maximize the quality of your sleep using data from REM (rapid eye movement) sleep, deep sleep, and light sleep, as well as a meal score when you do any food logging. One other unique feature of the Jawbone UP 3 is its bioimpedance sensors that send a low frequency current through the body to determine your personal

body composition.

Having said that, the most worthwhile fitness tracker that you can purchase has to be the Jawbone UP 3 ($200) for a number of reasons.

It is much more rewarding to know that your body fat percentage has reduced when the number on the weight scale just won’t budge. Jawbone seems to be the only retailer that has placed a much greater emphasis on motivation instead of just tracking; granted, while tracking your activity level you do feel more accountable for your activities (or lack thereof) but Jawbone really wants you to change your behaviour and motivates you to your personal goals.

amona Braganza, creator of the 3-2-1 Training Method, is a Global Fitness icon. She has trained such A-List celebrities as Jessica Alba, Scarlett Johansson, Ryan Reynolds and Jessica Biel. Her years as an NFL cheerleader and fitness model have given her a unique outlook on health and fitness training. Ramona’s approachability and good-natured attitude make her a fitness guru truly worthy of her success. Belleza Moda magazine was lucky enough to sit down with Ramona in one of Toronto’s premier condominiums to discuss her past experiences, current and up-coming projects and her thoughts on modern fitness culture. Was health and fitness training always your goal, or did it result from a series of events? It was more of a progression for me. I’ve always been very sporty. I began in gymnastics at the age of 4 and competed throughout high school. My gymnastics career lead me to become involved in dance and eventually I became a cheerleader for the Toronto Argonauts. After that, I moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in acting, but while I was there, I decided to audition for the Raiders. I did that part time, while I continued to go on auditions. My auditions always seemed to land me sports related commercials, but never seemed to lead to any ‘real’ acting roles. No matter what I tried, it always came back to fitness. I entered fitness contests and did quite well. I followed that with some fitness modelling. It was during this point that I was introduced to my first client Jessica Alba and decided to get certified. It was only when I began doing work behind the scenes that I realized I was always good at it and decided to make a career out of it.

What, if any, is a common trap you’ve found in modern fitness culture? It’s our culture of having everything instantly and I think, unfortunately, we haven’t gotten a good sense of sticking to things and toughing it out. We’re very used to instant gratification and it’s getting worse as the generation goes on. Everybody wants to be fit fast, but your body is not a machine, it takes time. It’s a bit of a dilemma because there are no quick fixes. Fitness is about perseverance. My goal is to get people to their ideal and then teaching them how to maintain it for life.

If you had one tip for trying to get fit, what would it be? Don’t beat yourself up if you fall off of your program. I’m sort of that ‘in-between’ trainer where I realize that there are times when it’s harder to stay on a program and others when you have to get serious. It’s about having a balance. A lot of people feel guilty when they slip and throw in the towel. If you take a day or two off, there’s always the chance to go back on it. The most important thing to remember is that your success is based on the cumulative effects of your work.

You’re best known for your work training Hollywood celebrities. Do you believe Hollywood tries to portray an unrealistic sense of beauty and fitness, or can the average person have similar results? I work around these people all the time. It’s not unrealistic for anyone to achieve these results, but what people don’t realize is that it takes months of training. The unrealistic part is our perception of Hollywood. Hollywood is real and the people are the same as you and I. People have to work out to get in shape for these movie roles, and it takes the same amount of time as it would for any other person. People just don’t see that and it seems like it happens over night. Part of being a celebrity is making it look easy, but I am there behind the scenes and these people work very hard to look the way they do. They eat a certain way and exercise a certain way for at least three months; any one can do the same and achieve comparable results.

Commonly in Health and Fitness, diets and supplements are advertised as ‘miracles’. Is there any room for ‘miracles’ in Health and Fitness, or is that term just used to sell people false hope?

The real ‘miracle’ in our modern health and fitness culture is the availability of healthy food. In the past, we only had certain choices, but now a health conscious person can go to a restaurant and find something that suits their diet. I travel a lot and in other countries, they don’t have the same healthy options available to them. We have such variety in North America; it’s up to the person, whether or not they want to make the right choice. I’d also consider technology a ‘miracle’ for health and fitness. Technology is so incredible now, and you have so many resources available to you. Whatever your goal is, there are so many people and apps that are trying to help you. In many ways we are incredibly lucky. It wasn’t like this when I was starting out. We had a few gadgets, but it was mostly just the old fashioned way.

How would you describe your 3-2-1 Training program?

The guiding philosophy for my 3-2-1 Program is: Get ready mentally, Get set physically and Go forward emotionally. For me, ‘it’s about having your fun time and your 3-2-1 time’. The diet component focuses on portion control, using the consuming 3 meals, 2 snacks and 1 litre of water. Water is important because the body is mostly water. Your food choices shouldn’t be restrictive; it’s just about portion control. As long as you remember calories in and calories out, you can eat what you want within reason. It’s important to remember that your metabolism works faster the more often you eat. The training method is really where the 3-2-1 philosophy starts. I was training with Jessica Alba for 12 years, doing a lot of location shoots. Most of the time, I had little to no equipment, so I thought of a plan that would allow me to get the best results without using machines. The plan is broken down into 3 cardio segments, 2 circuit segments and 1 core. The basis of my workouts includes cardio, strength and conditioning and a portion devoted to your core in every work out. Whether you have 10 minutes or an hour, this program will give

How does your routine differ from popular workout plans such as ‘Crossfit’? Crossfit is for military and athlete training. This is an important distinction because most people aren’t going into a routine with that kind of base level of fitness. Crossfit doesn’t have a cardio component; they focus on anaerobic conditioning. My cardio segments are usually 5-10 minutes. They can be anything from dancing, jogging, bike riding or kickboxing. Whatever you want to do along with your strength training. I do a 3-day split using heavier weights, similar to my old style body building techniques. You complete 3 sets and then you take a break, allowing you to focus on your anaerobic training. I offer aerobic, anaerobic and core training, which is an important division of your time. It’s meant for your ‘average Joe’, giving people a lot of time to build up their stamina instead of expecting them to be extreme from day-1.

When did your interest for hairstyling begin? Hairstyling has always been part of my life, in that beauty and nature are all around us. To me styling hair is just natural extension of my interest in the world as a whole. Whether or not they admit it, everyone is aware of their hair and in turn style. Hairstyling is an integral expression of personality.

What was your biggest break as a hairstylist? Over my career so many fortuitous meetings have happened. I think if open yourself to possibilities great things happen. Meeting Louis Licari who in turn introduced me to Linda Evangelista was amazing. As was training with Odile Gilbert. Since then I have been called upon to style celebrities at pivotal times in their lives: for example styling Lisa Marie Presley for her Barbara Walters interview discussing her marriage to Michael Jackson. Truly there are too many to mention.

Belleza Moda: How did Delhi 2 Dublin first come together? (D2D): We got together to put on a performance at Celtic Fest back in 2006.

A happy accident born out of Vancouver’s Celtic festival in 2006 founded by Jarun Naygar, Rani Binnig. Since the Canadian group formed in 2006, Delhi 2 Dublin has changed the face of pop as the world has come to know it; both their songs and the band itself reflect the cultural diversity present in most societies around the world today. Delhi 2 Dublin transforms their sound through a creative intertwining of Bhangra, Celtic, Dub Reggae and Electronica. The band has played top festivals in Canada, the UK, the U.S. and now, performances in the Pacific Rim and Europe. They have even played at the 2010 winter Olympics in Vancouver! Delhi 2 Dublin talked with Belleza Moda and provided some interesting insight of their band.

BM: When the group is not performing or in the studio, where are you spending your vacation? D2D: Tarun is usually in Bali and Ravi would be somewhere hot.
