AMO conference provides mayor chance to seek infrastructure funding News - Belleville - Belleville recently received senior government funding for one major infrastructure project, but it’s not done lobbying the province yet. Mayor Taso Christopher spoke on Thursday about how he would use an upcoming trip to the Association of Municipalities of Ontario conference to seek more funding for roads and bridges and other essential costs. “We need more sustainable funding for infrastructure going forward,” Christopher said, days before taking off for the conference, August 16 to 19 in Niagara Falls. “That’s the focus and that’s what it’s been for the last eight, nine months.”

Belleville recently received $3,250,000 from each the federal government and the provincial government through the Small Communities Infrastructure Funding program for renovations to Dundas Street, around the Bay Bridge Road intersection. This funding brings the project costs for municipal taxpayers down to $3,250,000 from the original $9,750,000 price tag. But this project represents just one of 22 projects in the Build Belleville portfolio, which is expected to cost the city more than $92 million over several years. Christopher said he was optimistic heading into the Quinte Royals pitcher Noah St. Bernard throws a pitch to a Kawartha Cubs batter during an Eastern Ontario Baseball Association Minor Midget tournament at Rotary Park in BelPlease see “Mayor” page 2

The win advanced Quinte to another game in the B side of the tournament. They lost their tournament opening game 3 - 0 to Ajax, to end up in the B division. Photo: Stephen Petrick
