EMC News - Belleville - Despite winds so strong it had some golfers remark they might as well have been playing at the British Open, the 11th annual Rotary Loves Kids Golf Tournament was another resounding success this year, and tournament chair Mr. Kelly McKinney said it’s easy to see why. “I think [the cause] something everyone can connect to,” McKinney said. “There’s
a lot of kids that don’t have enough food when they go to school, don’t have enough opportunities to develop, or to do fun events, so kids are what we want to focus on.” Taking place on Friday, July 19, the Rotary Loves Kids Golf Tournament attracted more than 250 participants during the day’s events, ranging from children from the Highland Shores Children’s Aid Society playing at the disc golf course at
Bayside Secondary School to sponsors and contributors taking in the lush scenery and pristine fairways at Trillium Wood Golf Club and at Black Bear Ridge Golf Course. At night, participants gathered at Market Square in downtown Belleville for an evening of dancing, live music under the stars and great food during the Party in the Square. “The golf is fantastic, but there’s a ton of golf tournaments,” McKinney said.
“What sets us apart from everyone else is the Party in the Square downtown. Every year people say it’s the party of the summer.” While the final fund-raising tally was not available by press time, McKinney said that based on a similar number of golfers as last year, they expected to raise in the area of $90,000 from the event.
