Bridge Street Church program feeds the stomach and the soul By Stephen Petrick
News - Belleville - Every day, during the coldest weeks of winter, there’s a warm and friendly atmosphere inside Bridge Street United Church. Free dinners are offered through late January and February, as part of the church’s famous Inn From the Cold program. Those who attend get a full course meal: soup, an entrĂŠe and dessert. But, perhaps more important, organizers says, they get a welcome atmosphere and a chance to mingle with friends. “It’s not just feeding the body, it’s feeding the spirit,â€? said the Reverend David Mundy. at 4 p.m. for coffee. Soup is served at 4:30 p.m. and the meal is served at 5 p.m. If any food is left, seconds are offered around 6. The church is located at 60 Bridge Street East (on the corner of Church Street). Rick Hammond is the head chef for the program and he works closely with fellow volunteers Sue Catherwood and Ian Sutherland. Hammond said the church is proud to offer the program as part of its community outreach services. Every night he and his team prepare food for 120 people.
