BELONGING

WELLNESS

PURPOSE

While at Bellarmine, I have been encouraged to participate not only in engaging things on campus but also off campus. Through off-campus opportunities, I’ve been able to accomplish internships, be a part of our ESPN crew, and build connections through the local and Bellarmine community. Bellarmine has not only prepared me for my next adventure academically, but professionally as well. Even when off-campus, you tend to always meet someone who has ties to Bellarmine.

Bellarmine’s welcoming atmosphere became evident when I joined diverse student-led events, fostering connections beyond the classroom. Engaging in clubs aligned with my passions provided a sense of belonging, and the supportive community, including faculty and peers, enhanced my overall college experience. This environment has not only shaped my academic journey but also cultivated lasting relationships within the Bellarmine community.

Bellarmine is very empathetic when it comes to students’ health and wellness. Bellarmine has resources for about anything a student may need physically, mentally, or emotionally. They offer on-campus resources so that you receive the help you need, whether it be a flu shot or a check-up. There is always someone or somewhere to go for assistance. There is also an RSO (Registered Student Organization) dedicated to mental health that occasionally has events around mid-terms and finals, which can be a hard and stressful time for some students. Most professors are also very understanding when needing a break if you communicate with them.

Bellarmine has committed so many resources and people to expand my journey and future. Whether it be from the friendly faces in the Career Development Center or the advising in my own department, Bellarmine has given me a great foundation to pursue my goals. Bellarmine prides itself on its graduates who continue to higher education or into the workforce and it shows in the expert-level care that they provide. I wouldn’t be as ready for my future pursuit of healthcare if not for Bellarmine.

Faculty are so supportive beyond the classroom. I’ve spent so much time in office hours or emailing them. When you’re looking for colleges, and you hear these descriptions and these statistics, facultyto-student ratio, and caring about students, it may seem superficial, but I can pinpoint moments where they were there for me when I needed it. I’m so grateful, and that’s a perfect way to describe my Bellarmine experience.

Grace ’24

Education

The education program has prepared me for my career by giving me firsthand experience in classrooms with students since my first year. Bellarmine prioritizes getting their students in the classroom and working with kids, and providing us with outstanding teachers, mentors and professors. On top of that, they have given me critical feedback throughout the experience to make me a better teacher every day.

With these majors, you’ll be well-positioned for the ever-evolving Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) fields.

Bellarmine is a small campus, and I like getting to know my professors personally and attending their office hours to help me understand the subject more in-depth. What stands out the most is the community. My friends are very loving and supportive, and the professors are too. They want to see you succeed in life and in your major. That was something so beautiful that I had never experienced.

The business program requires students to excel academically and puts students in real-life scenarios through group projects, research, presentations, and internships with real companies, so students are set apart in a competitive environment. I feel prepared for my career. From management to accounting classes, even though I might not be an expert in every field, I have a general understanding of what it takes to be successful in the business world.

BU bonus:

Bellarmine students can earn an MBA along with their bachelor’s degree in 5 years thanks to our early entry MBA program.

Students develop the skills and expertise to lead in the widely diverse business realm, whether at a local startup or a global corporation. The Princeton Review has called The Rubel School of Business “one of the nation’s best business schools.”

The Rubel School is a chartered Financial Analyst Institute-affiliated university and accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business International (AACSB), which places it among the elite business schools in the nation. Not only is Bellarmine the first and only private university in Kentucky to achieve AACSB accreditation, but fewer than five percent of business schools worldwide have achieved this distinction.

Professors are kind of like a family you never thought you needed, and it’s good to have those connections.

Stepping on campus, seeing the people, and talking with people, I knew I could be successful here. It was a feeling; I just knew this was where I belonged. The community, the small class sizes, and the ability to develop relationships with my professors, I could see myself here for the next four years.

Students in our Arts and Humanities programs are prepared for a broad range of careers and graduate studies. These programs challenge students to think creatively, problem solve, question, and communicate. Faculty connect classes to the thriving arts scene in Louisville where students can showcase their work through live performances, art shows, and readings.

In addition to the strong roster of majors, the Arts and Humanities offers minors to complement our students’ creative intellectual pursuits: creative writing, film studies, women and gender studies, and television and sports broadcasting. Recent graduates enjoy success in a variety of careers including journalism, production management, design, business, law, and higher education.

pre-professional programs

Students in the pre-professional tracks receive the advising they need to stay on track with post-college plans, and Bellarmine’s well-rounded liberal arts curriculum prepares them not only to achieve the basics of their career path, but also an enhanced ability to think critically, problem solve, question, and communicate. The balance of a liberal arts degree can make a difference in the graduate school admission process.

Students in these programs are prepared to apply and get accepted to competitive graduate programs. Access to research opportunities and individual faculty mentorship means students can set themselves apart from their peers and feel prepared for success.

Pre-Law

The Pre-Law Director connected me with an internship with a criminal defense attorney. Over a semester, I got to be involved in various cases and had many projects that I was working on. Alongside the attorney, I met with federal prosecutors, sat in on numerous court sessions, and met with defendants in the office and the correctional facility. Through this experience, I got to meet many incredible people who can help me with my future, while also gaining a lot of experience to add to my resume and to make me stand out when applying to law school!

Jack ’24

Pre-Dental

I believe that Bellarmine fosters a more intimate learning environment that promotes close studentfaculty relationships. Some of these relationships I have developed made me comfortable and confident in asking for help, both inside the classroom and outside. Between tutoring and letters of recommendation, my professors have gone above and beyond to help me in my journey to become a dentist.

Tyler ’24

Pre-Med

The approachable professors and the smaller class sizes allowed me to ask questions and feel like I’m a member of a genuine learning community. Being a part of the pre-med program helped me to stay on top of the many necessary requirements for applying to medical school. The pre-med program recommends classes to take, offers volunteer opportunities and provides information on how to get experience in medical environments. I learned tips for studying for the MCAT and for the best time to take it. Current medical students came and shared their experiences and knowledge, which gave me insight into what medical school is like.

Elianie ’27

The Honors Program has helped me by allowing me to have so many opportunities and experiences to grow my love of learning and connect with other likeminded students. One of my favorite things about the Honors Program is how service-minded it is and how it pushes students to not only learn new topics and concepts but actually apply them to make an impact in the world.

Julien ’25

Pioneer Scholars

Bellarmine ensures success for students who are of the first generation in their family to go to college. Our student-led peer mentoring group, Pioneer Scholars, provides a space for first-generation students to connect and get acclimated.

Elisha ’24

My experience with Knights of Color has been so helpful. At the beginning of the school year, I was extremely nervous about being at Bellarmine. It was a big cultural change that I didn’t think I was ready for. Thankfully, my student mentors helped me make the adjustment to Bellarmine.

The Honors Program

Bellarmine’s Honors Program offers high-achieving students a means to maximize time and talents both in and out of the classroom through specially designed courses, study abroad experiences, community engagement and undergraduate research. Many first-year honors students choose to live together in the Siena Primo and Siena Secondo residence halls.

The Pioneer Scholars program gave me an opportunity to build relationships with others. It was nice to have people to talk to about college struggles without judgment. I have gained many friendships through my time as a mentee and mentor myself. The Pioneer Scholars program also allowed me to get out of my comfort zone and build skills to help me in the future. It helped me become a better leader and listener, which is important when working in any healthcare career.

Living on campus let me immerse myself in campus life, allowed me to become active in various clubs and events and build connections. On the first day, my RA took a group of us to Palio and that is where I met one of my closest friends to this day! I was a part of the Terra Learning Community in my first year, and lived alongside other Terra members on the third floor of Kennedy Hall. With most of our classes together we formed study groups, and those latenight cram sessions developed into long-lasting friendships! The Crossover, which is the common area on the second floor that connects Kennedy and Newman Halls, was our hangout spot. We would watch environmental documentaries and bake cookies! Honestly, some of my best college memories happened while living on campus!

Commuters are given opportunities to make the most of their experience and build community. There is programming specifically to meet their needs, like coffee and donuts on campus, a commuter center, and a commuter committee of Student Government who ensure their voice is a part of the campus conversation.

Sam ’24

Commuter Student

Being a commuter at Bellarmine has given me the ability to be flexible on campus while maintaining a relationship with the Bellarmine community. I’ve been able to hang out at Bellarmine with friends, use the gym facilities to exercise, and grab some food while being on campus. At the same time, if I feel that I’d rather have a home-cooked meal or need to be at home for a specific reason, I have the ability to do so. I can maintain a relationship with my family and friends at home while keeping a relationship with Bellarmine itself.

I have been able to find communities and be involved on campus. Being a commuter, I still have found the time to be a Bellarmine Radio DJ, a Social Media Ambassador, a Student Ambassador, and be a part of the gym culture at Bellarmine. In my opinion, being a commuter does not limit your Bellarmine experience; it enhances it in a way that some people do not get to experience while living on campus.

My advice would be not to be afraid of missing out on on-campus events. A lot of events are held in the afternoon/early evening, and Bellarmine recognizes that a large amount of its students are commuters. As long as you are able to put yourself out there, being a part of the Bellarmine community is certainly possible as a commuter.

We focus on sustainability, too, by recycling, composting and sourcing ingredients locally as much as possible.

I engaged in studies surrounding Nazi Germany in Berlin the summer following my freshman year. This was an incredible experience as I was able to study these significant events in an active manner, feeling the gravity and weight of consequential historical events. During sophomore year, I spent my first semester in a course studying Rome, which culminated in a trip to Italy over break. This trip allowed me to engage in experiential learning and see unbelievable and breathtaking ancient landmarks. These experiences helped to expand my worldview, increase my knowledge of global politics and learn about different cultures and governments.

Student-Athletes are students first. There are support systems in place to ensure they continue to be successful, on and off the field. There are coaches, trainers, and dedicated advisors to help manage their course loads when travel season is in full swing.

That’s why Bellarmine’s teams collectively captured a 2021 championship in the classroom, earning the ASUN Conference Academic Champion Trophy during their inaugural season in the league. Knights squads competing in the ASUN posted a conference-best 87.64 percent of student-athletes earning at least a 3.0 GPA in the 2020-21 academic year.

It’s Division I quality competition without compromise.

Being a Bellarmine student athlete has been an incredibly fulfilling experience and one I will never forget. During my time in athletics, my professors and advisors were so supportive of my academic and athletic careers, always working with me to be the best I could be in all my pursuits. My team became like second family and taught me what it meant to be an encouraging teammate and a better friend. Being a student athlete allowed me to develop life long skills and to cultivate deeply personal relationships with my professors and peers. It was through my Bellarmine student athlete experience that I found myself and learned to advocate for my needs and the needs of those around me. The Bellarmine community supported me through times of adversity and I will forever be grateful for my time in Bellarmine Athletics.

Admission Qualifications

Typically, admitted applicants will have at least a 2.5 high school GPA. The median GPA of admitted students is a 3.7, with 50% of our admitted students falling between a 3.3 and 3.9 cumulative GPA

Bellarmine is test optional but for those who choose to submit test scores, the middle ACT range is 22-27 and SAT range is 1060-1260. We Superscore.

Projected Scholarships

I almost wrote Bellarmine off completely when applying to college. My dad was a bricklayer, and the company he worked for built the Siena Complex at Bellarmine. He used to drive us around campus and tell us stories of his time on the site, but he would always remind us that we could never afford a fancy school like this. If you are a student like me and think Bellarmine is out of reach or filled with people who would never understand where you came from, the truth is that this university is filled with people who want to help you and see you, as well as people who are just like you. My advice: never write off a school because you’re scared. Whether you’re scared of rejection, cost, or not fitting in, you miss every shot you don’t take. Go on the tours, talk to the students, apply, apply, apply.
